Just booms and hit points?

At this point I'm so hungry for some steel fleet action I will take anything. Including this.

Apart from navy field there never was any decent naval arena type game, so i'm kinda looking forward for this.

All those big ships... welp, time to install Silent Hunter again.
Meh, sinking ships in your sub is popamole. You want a real challenge, try sinking another sub while both of you are underwater. Did you know that a sub-to-sub underwater kill has only ever been performed once, ever?

I'd love to smoke the arena and let the ships hit land.

Then have my PT Boat Mothership move in and finish them with swarms.

I do not care about tanks or warplanes, but warships... Damnit, that just goes straight to my brain, no saving throw.

Before I sink (pun intened) in an MMO bullshit, is there any decent single player game of this type available, that would scratch the same itch?

Well, who else would it be? There aren't too many other nations with navies that have actually gotten into fights in the modern era.

Aside from the Silent Hunter series? I dunno if it's quite the level of scope you desire, but there's the Harpoon series or Fleet Command. If you're willing to dig a bit oldschool, there's Destroyer Command, which is able to play against Silent Hunter 2. Other than that, there's not a whole lot of naval sims aimed at letting you captain a single surface ship, though.

Great Naval Battles series was kinda fun 20 years ago. Don't know how they defend themselves these days.

I'm pretty pissed by the fact that there are no submarines in this game, having the gameplay of silent hunter in this would be bretty gud, guess wargaming is to pussy for this.

I also don't like the smooth surface simplification.

In WoT you had lots of factors like terrain angles, cover, camouflage, gun depression, etc.

A smattering of islands and water is a recipe for dull popamole-style battles.

If WoT decide to do a more 'realistic' warships game, as far as I'm concerned, they can go ahead, more power to them. Right now I will take what I have.

I know how this will sound, bit this is still in Alpha with only a single map and no carriers. There were also small instances of laying smoke but that didn't seem to work too well.

A proper world war naval sim would be centered around maintaining formations and battlelines with faster vessels scouting and harrassing the enemy formation before withdrawing and re-engaging at night after the two battlelines collide, and not properly escorting and defending your carriers will result in onesided rape at the hand of the enemy.

Carriers would be limited by a long windup time for planes to be ready for a sortie, and sending planes out blindly will only give the position of your carriers to the enemy. Scouting parties of light cruisers and destroyers will instead seek out the enemy, exchange fire with enemy scouting parties, and if they find the enemy main fleet, fire torpedoes along with the carriers sending in a concentrated strike force to overcome the enemy fleets AA. Then the battleships would roll in and try to break each others defensive line to get to the juicy carriers while the smaller ships wait for nightfall before reengaging under cover.

But peoples cannot into disciprine and teamwork so popamole is the only gameplay mechanic that would prevent the game from being two ships banging away at each other and the one with the bigger guns and thicker armour wins.
