It's bullshit. 90% of games won't benefit from 4 cores/hyperthreading for another couple of years.

so the consoles are barely released and the "4 core minimum" shit has already begun?

Yeah our i5's and i7's are too slow to emulate the next-gen console experience (because of... euhm....reasons), time to stop making fools of ourselves and invest in one those miraculous computational living room wonders. It's the only rational solution because it will take -years- before computers catch up.

Give me the evidence that Wolfenstein is using the same old 2011 engine branch of Rage.

Dude, no one gives a shit what it's using. It's very simple: if they are only using maximum spec on PC they are being dumb, because it limits how many people can run (and thus buy) the game. Since there is a version of the game that runs on Xbox 360 they should be able to create a PC version that scales low enough to run on a standard quad-core, or even less. It's that simple.

I'm not sure why you are arguing against that.
Meh, how many PC gamers are really stuck with such shitty old computers? Those are probably cheapasses who wouldn't buy the game until it was on sale for 75% off anyway. It makes sense to me that they just port the current-gen console version to PC by changing a couple of compiler parameters, instead of taking the effort to make a PC version that can use both old and new assets as the user selects.

You think a quad core and three year old GPU is some kind of ancient piece of shit no one uses anymore? Even though it has run pretty much every game on max the last 5 years? Okay...

Define "shitty old computers"? If you mean HP's office typing machines, then I agree. On the other hand, I just recently ditched my old i7 920 from 2008, which is a beast of a CPU even today. If something's old, doesn't mean it's crap.

Developers probably deliberately pump up system requirements primarily to force gamers to buy a fucking console, and play it on a console. Next-gen console, to be more specific. "Oooh, Ignite won't work on your PCs because our engine way is too nextgenish." Oh come on...

Lol, i5s are 'shitty old computers' now?

I was still running a 2.9ghz dual-core with a HD6870 last year and I was playing most new games on high and some on max at 60fps. I've only now just upgraded to an i5 and a HD7850 and I suspect this build will probably last me another good 3 or 4 years.

Now that was actually a pretty fucking cool trailer. I can see MachineGames becoming New IdSoft.

It's only a trailer. Level design is the most important thing on a FPS, and a trailer can't show it.

Seriously, we should expect a shit.

Still no word on what the Doom beta is about. Brand recognition baiting at its finest.

At least you'll get to go on the moon.

No way, they need to do a lot of shit to compete with Id on what they are most known for, cinematic gamming.

Looks shit. The bright, cartoony, stylised graphics make it look like Borderlands 2, not a sequel to Return to Castle Wolfenstein (didn't play the 2009 game).

Five days and they still haven't told me anything definite about review copies. There are no "professional" reviews yet either. Maybe they don't want any opinions seeping out before it releases or something...

Again, that's gonna change once engines are being written against 6-core CPUs (2 cores reserved for OS and background stuff).
If they would really optimize for the PS4 CPU the PC requirement would be a 2 core I3, puts it to shame without even trying.

People, time to upgrade from your shitty Core 2 Duo's from 2006.
Wouldn't hold my breath those 1.6 jaguars beat a core 2 duo and sure as hell a core 2 quad walks all over them.

Those trailers are really well made. The game itself... I just can't put faith in these railroaded modern shooters.
