Developer Everstone Games has unveiled its new open-world RPG, Where Winds Meet. The PC title is an action-adventure game set in the beautiful Ten Kingdoms period of medieval China.

Where Winds Meet debuted a gorgeous reveal trailer at Gamescom that highlights just how expansive its open-world setting is. While we still need to see the game in action ourselves before making any full assessment, it’s not unfair to say that Where Winds Meet is competing with the AAA open-world games like Ghost of Tsushima and Assassin’s Creed.

The trailer highlights several gameplay elements including horseback riding, combat skills, exploration, hunting, and more. The massive open world is being designed to encompass numerous locations including the windy steppes, bamboo forests, and bustling cities. The game is set during the Ten Kingdoms era between rival dynasties, at the end of the Southern Tang Dynasty. The main character is a mysterious swordsman navigating these treacherous times. The game will allow players to pursue numerous choices that will affect the game, including what role the swordsman will have in this conflict.

Not only can players pick sides in the war between Kingdoms, but according to Everstone, players can also choose to pursue other roles whether that’s as a doctor, merchant, or even just a wanderer with no set goals. Everstone Games is also promising numerous playstyles including sword fighting, Wuxia-style martial arts, and even Tai chi. Mix-and-match sword fighting, hand-to-hand combat, and magic.
Chinese Ghost of Tsushima with wuxia movement and combat. Sold.

It's nothing like Wuxia, it's action/walking simulator garbage tier with muy cut-scenes.

For a moment, I thought someone figured out Wuxia could be interesting for the non Asians if you removed the VN/training part.

"Wuxia" is a whole genre of fiction based on martial arts, not just the name of a particular game.

how come asian people in video games made by asians never actually look asian

is this how they see themselves when they look in a mirror?
Asian’s can’t really see. I see them all the time driving terrible while wearing masks in their cars by themselves. Too bad we will be ruled by them in the future.

To be fair the characters don't really look caucasian or anything else, either. I think they're just less concerned with direct figurative realism than we are.

They don't look Korean, maybe what Koreans try to fleshcraft themselves into.

My bad, I only know about the Tales of Wuxia series.
At least now I know I should leave threads with Wuxia in the title alone.

TBH, I prefer Korean Murim stuff to Chinese Wuxia. I tend to find the stories more developed and the characters less paper-thin. Not found a single video game exploring the Murim world so far, though.

To be honest I'm more excited by the claims that you can just fuck off and be a merchant or something than anything to do with combat. I'm sure the relevant systems will be paper-thin and unrewarding, but I'm still looking forward to the disappointment.

Well even though the gameplay looks clunky as fuck. At least these guys had the balls to showcase it. So kudos to that.

Well, they're showing gameplay animations, but they're not showing the UI, so one doesn't really know what the gameplay will be like (e.g. press several things to pull off a tricky combo vs. press one button and something awesome happens).

Does look spectacular for an MMO though, last time there was such a noticeable level-up for MMO visuals was Black Desert.

The same can be said when watching their movies :)
