What's the current recommendations for a mid-range VR setup? I don't actually want to buy anything, but I want a frame of reference for a few years from now when the tech has matured a bit and dropped in cost.
Cheapest you can get for porn is Google Cardboard, or so it seems.
Funny stuff aside, from what I've seen Oculus Quest 2 and PlayStationVR get a lot of marketing buzz, both being pretty cheap,
though if you consider buying the connecting cable to actually play shit and a headstrap with better weight distribution, it becomes a bit less so.
The former apparently needs a Zukerbook account or it won't run at all, while the latter is meant for consoles, as the name would lead you to believe.
Therefore, both can go and fuck themselves.
HTC Vive Pro 2 looks like the baseline if you want to do actual VR; just looking at the specs, it should blow the rest of the crap out of the water.
You will need a controller and base stations for it, together with a proper PC, so it ends up being rather pricey.
Valve Index hands down. It's pricey but it is high fidelity premium VR with good compatibility.
I still don't even want one. I will forget to unplug the cameras. There are two cameras on the Index and they face the wall mostly. I will not willingly allow any more such surveillance in my living quarters.Valve Index hands down. It's pricey but it is high fidelity premium VR with good compatibility.
High fidelity ? By what measure ? Its screen is pretty much the worst out all 2nd gen devices. It can't do wireless VR and it costs like 3 times the price of Quest2. Also weights way more which is significant factor in comfort.
Also Quest 2 has easily the best controlers around. Battery in those things literally lasts MONTHS instead of hours like in case of first HTC Vive.

Coculus sucking should be frowned upon. The store is closed, they did the untinkerable thing and some overpaid satanist watches you masturbate.

Yeah thats most likely the issue. 5ghz wifi is strongly suggested for airlink and its signal deterriorates even through thin walls. Your Internet speed is not an adequate indicator, you only need the fastest, uncongested wifi connection between your pc and your quest that you can get. If you want to invest 30 bucks you can buy a dedicated router for airlink which you place close to your playspace and set up as access point, either wired to your mainrouter or via powerlink. Its also very important to connect it to your pc via ethernet 1ghz bandwidth. The archer c6 gets recommended alot on VD and Airlink discord. Just use a different SSID for 5ghz, choose an uncongested channel (there is an app that lets you check the use of wifi channels in your neighbourhood) 80mhz channel bandwidth and let only your Quest2 connect to it.
It should improve airlink/vd quality by a lot.
gonna pick up Alyx during summer sale. Not sure if I should buy a link cable now (the $25 one) or go for Air Link
I just got a Quest 2 and as a boxing fan and former amateur competitor I had the time of my (gaming)life playing Creed.
Really good shit. It was FNR level but with the VR novelty. Felt fresh and old at the same time. It is hands down the best boxing game available on PC.
And I wouldn't be surprised if someone managed to actually lose weight playing it. Even virtual boxing is a good aerobic exercise.
