I don't think you'll understand that trying to apply rationality and logic to a monster from Wasteland 2 is completely fucking retarded even if we repeat it a thousand times, but I hope somebody more patient can explain it to you with pictures or music.

We might as well not have a forum to discuss things.

That would be a blessing if it would spare me from reading shit like the last few pages. I'm going to be nice and sum it up for anybody else that comes to this thread:

"I don't like this, it's silly"

"Well, Wasteland doesn't care much for making sense"

"Yeah but I don't like it, it's too campy and here's a plausible alternative"

"Man did you play Wasteland? If you did, you wouldn't find it weird or out of place"

"I don't like this and I did play Wasteland over twenty years ago and pledged money to this, but I still don't like it and if you're contesting the fact that it's silly and stupid you are a fanboy"

"Nobody is contesting that it's silly, because IT IS SILLY like the entire goddamn setting you autistic fuck"

"Wow nothing justifies you people being this hostile, let me show you how reasonable I was when I said why I don't like this"

You mean like, posting stupid photshop shit that can't even get the font and image frames right?Oh yes, I am deeply destroyed, truly in deep and bitter despair of how some videogame turns out.

"Leave Britney alone.jpg" etc

Hypocritecodex.com

:)

BTW still waiting for where to draw the line between "everything goes" (which ofcourse will be destroyed in each and every single small nuance in Fallout which is already a "LOL" franchise thanks to some retards) and "Bunny Men" that Wasteland has which is ofcourse totally ok and monocled. :)

You're right. The end result of the 5 minutes I spent making that while at work totally missed on making the joke work.

Hypocritecodex.com

Mmm. Indeed. I'm a hypocrite because like you I whine about how shit everything you post is? Otherwise you lost me.

And I'm still waiting for you to not miss the point.

Grab the Codex by the pussy
ad hominem-flavored gigglesome frippery

Non-spin doctored authentic version:

"I don't like this, it's a silly gimmick."

"But there was something similar in Wasteland and Wasteland's meant to be silly, therefore it's completely appropriate."

"I didn't particularly like it in the original Wasteland, either. Silly's one thing, but that's a little too gimmicky for my tastes."

"You c-clearly didn't play Wasteland! If you had, y-y-you'd like it! Fucking t-t-twelve year old poser! We love Wasteland and pledged our hard-earned $30 to support it!"

"I loved Wasteland too and pledged for it as well, but—"

"F-F-FUCKING AUTIST, A-AM I R-R-RIGHT FELLAS (support me on this please)?" *Brofist* *Brofist* *Brofist* *Brofist* *Brofist* *Brofist* *Brofist* *Brofist* *furious hivemind circle-jerk*

Well, I never played Wasteland, and had been 'living in a cave' in Codexian terms when this new one was a Kickstarter, and the first thing I thought of when I saw 'mini-nukes' was that god-damned Fatman.

You can blame some of it on the overall craptasticness of Fallout 3 that every little nuance and error became a meme for retardation here and elsewhere (NMA for instance I suppose). If (a big hypothetical if) the game had been Van Buren and the One True Successor to Fallout 1 and there were limited mini-nuke grenades then I doubt it would have been anything like that. Even if they weren't one of their famous easter eggs... No doubt there would be criticism but I just see the issue in Fallout 3 being derived in large part by the sheer number of groan-worthies, to which Todd only added with his dullard's defenses and general derpy statements and, well, level of intelligence.

I'm not that thrilled about the concept, but if someone can assure me the cars don't fucking explode like nukes 'cuz dei use dat nukler stuff' I'd already be miles less worried than with FO 3. :smug:

I do realize doing it for camp, consistency in-setting even, and doing it 'CUZ AWESUM!!!' when it's inconsistent with the previous games are entirely different things. I'm also guessing radiation works via camp-logic so these things throw a bunch of glowing green rad-magic for all intents and purposes...

And then systematically badgering and/or insulting the author until he "shuts up" or recants his heresy and admits the untouchable holiness of the feature, because for some reason everyone must agree or be pestered until they capitulate.

Welcome to the world of basement-dwelling role-player wizards. It is either 0 or 1. If 1, then it is shit. And if you like 1, then you are shit too.

God damn turdslurpers. Stop rubbing your crotch at every minute detail that is revealed. We'll judge them when the sum of the parts is finally revealed. With a steady supply of stones at hand...

Dunno if the codex has always been like this (haven't been here long) but opinions have been very polarized about these kickstarter projects lately, as soon as someone is deemed as "divergent" he/she has abuse incoming.

I played the original game when it came out. I had no problem with the premise of the mission in the W2 demo being "killer tomatos taking over agro center". But nuke grenades bugged me a little. People tend to have opinions on stuff. Completely forgot that they were in the original game and don't remember what I thought about it back then. If my comment made the day of some dude who was looking for an opportunity to say something like ":obviously: Some of you obviously never played this 25 year old game if you don't know that this is not ony keeping in the spirit of the orginal but was in the original :obviously:". Good for him. Seriously. And there is a point in there behind the grandstanding.

Its the internets. No need to get upset. Once minor differences in opinion are blown out of proportion, there will be no mutually respectful resolution.

Anyway, my ultimate opinion on nuke grenade guy will be determined by how he plays as an enemy in the game, not whether he's holding a mini-nuke or dirty bomb or explosive nukular dragon turd.

What's interesting about some of your (over)reactions to my post is that I'm neither upset nor grandstanding and never was. I'm also not the one stuttering with steam coming out my ears here, much as Blaine seems to want to depict me that way (interesting too that he's the one most guilty of said behaviour). I'm simply making an observation, remarking on it and asking a question (one which hadn't even been addressed, btw). Case here of thou doth protestesth too much? Another interesting thing is that many of the arguments used (i.e. The game is 25 years old, doooood) are the same Biowarians or Bethesdians make when being slammed for not having ever played FO1&2 or when pointing out just about any canonical inconsistency with FO3. It's pretty much self-induced blame-absolution but hey, like the fella said...if it helps get you through the day? Good for you.

Y'all could just calm the fuck down and address my serious (if somewhat stated in pure bewilderment) inquiry though.

*shrugs*

I just don't want a game that trivializes nuclear weapons, personally. Though single piece of concept art doesn't necessarily indicate that this will be the case, enemies aren't usually unique in any way and their description suggests they'll be something to be avoided regularly. And, if they were meant to be ad-hoc dirty bombs, they wouldn't have such a clean, mass-produced, look and there wouldn't be such a large number on the person.

Does this mean I do not want "silly like Wasteland," TwinkieGorilla?

Your earlier work had an effortless quality to it but now you're just trying too hard. The point in mentioning the game is 25 years old is that some of us played it 20-25 years ago and may not remember certain details of the game. Nobody said they haven't played it. You made that up.

As for your oh so 'serious' question: "Ewe, what kind of games were you guise expecting?" :codexisfor:

Wasteland 2, dummy. Your position that anyone who doesn't find every aspect of the game appealing "doesn't get Wasteland" is as sensible as saying that anyone who doesn't laugh at every joke a comedian makes "doesn't get his humor". People can understand and enjoy a game without loving every little piece of it. It is somewhat amusing that anyone would portray himself as being "bewildered" by this.

It's a common defense. Maybe you meant it differently and for that...well, opt yourself out of the direction my finger is pointing then.

As for your oh so 'serious' question: "Ewe, what kind of games were you guise expecting?"

Please don't tell me when I'm being sincere or not. The entire point, bewilderment aside, of that initial post a page ago was to express genuine curiosity toward what those of you who claim to be WL1 fans are both expecting or desiring. Also: Jesus do I hate when people use the "oh so" precursor to an adjective. Jesus I hate that.

Wasteland 2, dummy.

Have I really offended you enough to roll out the red carpet like this or are you under the assumption you're gaining kool kredits here? Anyway...

(Your) position that anyone who doesn't find every aspect of the game appealing "doesn't get Wasteland"

No, that is not my position. My position is asking anybody "Why did you pledge to a Wasteland game if Wasteland-style things seem to turn you off?" Pretty simple. Nothing about specifics here, just an overall observation from the initiation of this particular KS.
