Wait, I take it back. Relic's short campaigns are better than their long campaigns.

weapon selection looks good.

quite a lackluster enemy list considering that this is an action title, and too much of a percentage seems to be of the 'small, hard to hit and annoying' variety

where are my berserkers and succubi? where are the noise marines?

ah hell what do I expect you're controlling a goddamn ultramarine for fucks sake of course variety has been shot in the back and dragged into a back room long ago

Wouldn't the available weapons differentiate the CSMs pretty well? I guess assuming that they use the entire variety, and not just Bolter and Plasma Rifle.

well unless I hear otherwise I fear they will be differentiated by some standing far away while the others charge up

I want an additional layer of stuff to take note of like succubi dodging certain attacks, berserkers needing charged up hits to knock down, noise marines being able to stun you if you stand in their shit for too long etc and also it would just be plain better to see instead of copypasted darkspaw-I MEAN, chaos marines everywhere

True, the Chaos list seems to be missing some unique/elite units that the Orks have.

I noticed though that the Havoc description says that they use autocannons, lascannons, and plasma cannons, so there will be some enemy weapon variety there.

Some $34 gray market Space Marine is sounding kinda tempting. Heard some positive things about the seller, now I have to decide if I wanna roll the dice on it or not.

$25 gray market Space Marine I am about to slit my goddamn wrists. http://cdkeyshere.com/warhammer-40000-s ... d-key.html

Assuming the place is legitimate (Which as far as I can tell from googling it appears to be) I imagine it's fairly safe to use, as I've been using a gray market DoW2 key forever. STILL. $25 FOR SUPER SHORT BUTTON MASHING. BUT IT'S WARHAMMER. BUT UNNNNNNNNNNGH

Thanks; I just took the risk with above site. They don't ask for CC# directly, but use Paypal instead, which is, I suppose, safer.

You get your key yet? Some of the other CD key sellers appear to be automated, but from what I can tell this one is done by hand.

Still on the fence. $25 is SO DAMN TEMPTING THOUGH.

No key yet, two automated Emails (account creation and order), order status is still "Processing..." on the page.

EDIT: still nothing. Speedy service fail.

EDIT2: They sent me the scan of the CD key, and it initiated Steam download. At the bottom of Email it says, "Sent from my Iphone".

Definitely play on hard mode guys.

Anyways I played 2 hours last night, finished Chapter 1 out of 5. So if the pacing keeps constant, 8-12 hours is a good estimate.

So far, I really have to congratulate Relic for making their first shooter AND slasher and doing well. Some nice set-piece battles. Hopefully it doesn't fall apart as I finish the game.

Damnit that cdkey site doesn't have a cheap Guild Wars key for my gf.

Been trying the multiplayer and it's very fun so far. Annoying to switch from pad to mouse and keyboard but it's a necessity in online competitive modes.

so bros is it more fun than mass effect 2 combat

edit:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011- ... iew?page=2
Variety, though, is something that Space Marine soon starts to lack as you dig into the campaign. The initial combat sequences where you hack away with one or two buttons look fantastic and threaten to evolve as new weapons come into play - but they never do, thanks to a dull collection of enemies and rather bland level layouts.

Instead, the game simply increases the difficulty by swarming you with adversaries up close while pecking away at you from range with eerily precise machinegun rounds, grenades and rockets. The melee combat is prosaic, but at least it's gloriously violent and impactful - yet you can't enjoy it because you're frequently whittled down to a corpse by distant enemies you haven't got time to shoot.
This is all exacerbated by another misjudgment. Sometimes you can regain health by entering Fury mode, but the majority of the time you need to execute enemies to build up your life bar again, and you quickly discover that you are exposed to additional damage for several seconds while the execution animation plays out.

This is fine early on in the game when the going is relatively easy, but before long it becomes the principal cause of your many deaths as you hurry to stun and execute an Ork only to receive a fatal bullet from miles away just as you are about to receive your health bonus. Talk about grabbing defeat from the kerb-stomped jaws of victory.

Overall, when you strip away our automatic affection for the universe, you're left with a simple story full of thin characters and predictable twists, where the combat quickly descends into a repetitive war of attrition, and a small suite of online modes that can't compete with the bigger boys in the genre.

In campaign and online, all of this is buoyed by beautiful visuals that really capture the scale and artistry of the Warhammer universe - right down to the way the Space Marine armour is textured to resemble the finish you get when you paint Citadel miniatures - and the customisation suite is wonderful.

But then we already knew Relic could build likable and authentic things out of Warhammer 40,000, so it's no surprise to find we like the trimmings in Space Marine. What we now know, sadly, is that Relic isn't quite so comfortable doing a third-person action game for them to fit around.

Wow. First Eurogamer review I have to disagree with. And also first Eurogamer review that I've read that is crying about difficulty. Plus, I rarely die in Hard Difficulty.

I guess this is what happens when you market to the CoD crowd. Relic tells them that they can regenerate health by executing, and they think that it's free gimme health. In reality, you have to work for that execution. You have to stun the enemies around you enough so that you don't get hit much during the execution animation. If you're getting pelted from far away, then draw the guy you want to execute towards a more secluded location! Alternatively, stun all the melee enemies surrounding you, and then shoot down or grenade the snipers while the first group is stunned. Edit: One more. Take out the melee enemies quickly, and then bum-rush and execute the shooters.

That said, so far the story and environment are kind of bland. But I'm still only partway through Chapter 2 out of 5, and Chaos enemies should be in a better environment.

Not really. Some of them sound good, but others not orkish enough. Also I'm kinda disapointed the game has no humour at all while the DoW games had a somewhat serious tone but with little humourous touches here and there, mainly provided by the orks. Heck, even the orks shouting "dakka dakka dakka!" would have been fun.

I wish there was more enemy variety, since as things are you only face a few types of orks and later they get upgraded versions — usualy deadly I might add. On the other hand they usualy come in large numbers and juggling with threat priority keeps things interesting. Worst part of the game so far happened in a lab where you have to destroy turrets to continue; boring.

I just started to meet Chaos enemies and they help to freshen things a bit but I need to play more to get a better opinion. But so far it's one cool ride, and my little foray in multiplayer was also positive. I dislike the unlocking system of the multiplayer but Relic had the good idea to let you copy the loadout of the one who just killed you, allowing you to get weapons you may not have unlocked yet for your next spawn.
