That looks like those VR speculation videos from the early 90's.
Finally we get to experience the vision of year 2000 GPU box art.

There's supposed to be a new Stygian Sentinel update today, maybe there'll be more screenshots there.

The playdoh / wax look is due to shader settings and specularity maps- i.e. easy shit to tweak. Hopefully people that care more than me (us?) will raise it so that that giant looming statue of a man in the second screenshot doesn't look like it should melt next to all the lava.

That's clearly a Photoshop...you an Infinitron Alt or what?

I'm more concerned with some questionable art direction. For example, the screen shot below has waaay too much yellow. It's over saturated with it. Looks pretty crappy. There needs to be more contrast with colors.

The first photo where we see a view of a dungeon wall and the stairs looks well done. However the stone looks too clean and needs more grime. There is too much yellow and needs to be toned down and more shadows added. But overall I can't wait to try the game.

We agree and this was taken as a Work in Progress pic. Don't worry there will be dust, spiderwebs exc as needed.

How can you tell it's photoshop?

By looking at it?

Playdoh man and the clouds things are clearly added after the fact.

Zep--

I agree. Clouds definitely look photoshopped in. And the statue doesn't even appear behind the temple/column thingy. I'm guessing it was too hard to get the layering right or something. Regardless, the statue clearly is not visible between some of the pillars. I mean the size indicates that we should see plenty of it behind those structures.

Got it, I'm not a photoshop guy outside of putting Trump hair on a brofist.

He looks playdoh-y tho, to me, due to the lighting or shaders applied in conjunction with specular maps. My only point is that those are easy things to correct if they want to.

Also, look at the right side of that Playdoh Man's head...it was clearly cut off by inserting the purple rock thing.

Jeez, now I'm all super paranoid. Because if that statue is shopped, then it makes sense that the clouds are obscuring exactly where it should be most visible behind the temple/ruins/column thing.

EDIT: And then they threw in some clouds in the upper corner for balance and maybe to obscure other shopping.

Don't be paranoid.

I'm not really sold on the look. The sculpted look doesn't really lend itself for a FP game. Also the swords look like baby's first tutorial 3d-model.

I guess that unreal* effect isn't intended, but I actually really like how the different elements in the world look super weird and out of proportion.

*not to be confused with Unreal®™

A break from the ultra-realistic graphics of most games would be a nice change.
