Tyranny + Bastard's Wound Expansion Thread

i'm pretty far into act 2.

my opinion:
it's a good game. refreshing setting and the writing is better than poe. lots of branching (at least so far), multiple quest resolutions and so on. multiple spectrums of "evil" in the dialogue choices and i rarely feel like my character is forced to say something i wouldn't attribute to her.

with that said, the biggest issues:
- companions don't seem to do... much. sometimes they comment a bit here and there. but after you exhaust their dialogue options they are just puppets. it's a shame because most of them are quite interesting and there are *obvious* tie-ins for a companion side-quest (e.g. remove sirin's helmet, help barik out of his armor)

- combat is not so good and the Oldwall Ruins are tedious and boring

- terrible framerate :/

Finesse seems to be the best stat to max in most cases. I'd say it's even better than Dex was in the IE games. The bonus to Accuracy is noticeable but not the most important. Finesse multiplies Deflection gains from light armor and, if I understand the system correctly, hit->graze conversion may effectively cancel incoming status effects in addition to reducing damage taken.

Not sure if going past 19 is worth it (as the cost of increasing attributes doubles after that) but other stats look lackluster in comparison.

Barik cannot benefit from Finesse, and so far I have some doubts that his selective armor (0 vs. crush, really?) is good enough to accept 0% Deflection. Need to test him more - his talents seem OK.

Yes, when the CC is bundled with the damage into a "procedurally-bundled container" (that's what the manual calls it), it doesn't apply on graze. Since a score of 20 Finesse gives +40% hit-to-graze conversion, that means that 40% of the CC that hits you is nullified.

I think there's a decent chance that this is working stronger than expected and will be nerfed in one of the first patches. Thankfully the game is short enough that a respec option shouldn't be necessary.

Finesse multiplies Deflection gains from light armor

Each point of Finesse adds one point of Deflection for each piece of armor equipped, no matter if the armor gives +1 Deflection or +10 Deflection.

Heavy armor like Barik's cannot benefit from Deflection or Finesse, and it only adds a comparatively small amount of extra damage reduction. Basically, heavy armor is better against weak attacks, while light armor is better against heavy attacks and CC effects (which are both more common on PotD).

Bullshit.

Kill a dude, kill a dude while mocking him, kill a dude with mercy. Such branching, much c&c.

So far the game is more entertaining than PoE, but how on Earth did they not implement proper action queue yet? What is the purpose of RTWP without one, the game basically turns into turn based rpg with many retarded side-effects. DAO for all it's decline, had much better interface/controls than this or pillars of boredom

Sirin is pretty buggy at the moment, but it's what a game designer would consider a "good" bug:

How do I beat the battle in the Ascension Hall? It's me, Lantry and Verse. Barik ditched me since I sided with the Chorus so I have no tank. Anyway it's three vs seven and it seems impossible.
Go Raedric style - there's a room on the left, choke them there.
Room on the left? You mean the corridor from which you arrive? In that case you must stilll engage 5 enemies at the same time which is difficult without a tanker

Tried rebel alliance path - didn't like it. Would't recommend it to anyone, game turns into Bioware GATHER ALLIES/Lord of the Rings and you get even more quests to help local farmers.
The Middle Finger path is a little bit more interesting, you just go around collect artifacts for yourself and gain power. But overall Archon paths feel more fleshed out to me.

The locations and main quest nodes are generally the same or feel the same.

Interesting game brought down by a shitty combat system. Just like Pillars of Eternity.

Hopefully, unlike Pillars, I'll be able to bring myself to finish this one.

Define proper, because PoE has an action queue. You shift click actions.

The first Sunday after release is usually the day when a game hits its lifetime peak of concurrent players. Tyranny's numbers actually fell from Saturday to Sunday, which is a bit unusual, but I guess it might be really great weather outside in Australia or something. In any case, they're not gonna get any higher on Monday, and we can now compare lifetime Steam peak player numbers:

69.9k - Skyrim Special Edition
68.6k - Stellaris
60.4k - Cities: Skylines

52.5k - Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

41.9k - PoE
41.0k - Hearts of Iron 4

22.0k - D:OS
18.6k - Wasteland 2
15.8k - Tyranny

<3.7k - Siege of Dragonspear [the figure shows BG1:EE's peak players after SoD's release, so it includes base game players]

703 - Age of Decadence

148 - The Dwarf Run

69 - Serpent in the Staglands
65 - Masquerada

It's still too early to speculate about total sales, but you'd have to hope that Tyranny was significantly cheaper to make than D:OS.

Must have been. They had the engine and most systems ready.
All they had to do was remove anything that made combat remotely interesting. Can't imagine having a guy pressing "delete" costs a lot of money.

Don't see why you need to make guesses based on number of concurrent players when Steamspy data will converge in a day or two. It's already got ~50k there.

The one you can see, for one? The one you can edit by removing actions? The situation is exacerbated by awful ai that makes you to control each companion 'by turn' otherwise they'd break your shift-queue and start behaving like morons

Are the followers abilities seriously hidden behind a dialogue "minigame", more like a massive click chore? I am certainly not reading the lines aside from clicking +Loyalty/Fear. The same goes for +Favor/Wrath. At first I thought that those were exclusive... This is just retarded.

First serious fight in the Scarlet camp and their three backliners are doing laps around the ebil-won-pikes after my naked archer and eating disengagement attacks from Barik.

Uninstalled. Will wait for 3.0

PoE doesn't have that because action queues are against Josh's design philosophy, but once reality set in, it had to be included as a last-minute addition.
