They really need to patch in a respec option, especially when you consider the growing amount of reported ability bugs.
And the fact the game being skill-based fools you into thinking hybrid characters are viable before you notice spellcrafting requirements and how each combat style requires a specific talent tree.

I like how they split PoE's might into a physical and magical one so there's even less incentive.
I strongly considered suicide when I noticed there were no dual-wielding abilities after picking dual wielding and atrophy.

What are you on about? Game has nothing to do with Pillars. In part that's why the combat is so terrible. Every element that made PoE's combat somewhat challenging and entertaining was stripped out in favor of spamming abilities as soon as they come off cooldown with complete disregard for positioning or tactics.
I could as well ask what are you going on about. I've played Pillars when it came out, on PotD, knew nothing about the combat system (I don't read manuals) and not only wasn't it challenging, it was also boring. (and buggy)

Suspected as much but again why to do so if in prologue you are shown that Kyros will not hesitate to send another tactical nuke edict and this will be it... Thanks for a choice offered but it should be at least quasi realistic choices like again in Age of Decadence... as to combat goes... Yes lowered difficulty to normal its trash so far so better breeze thru it faster and get to the surprisingly decent plot and dialogues.

This is much worse. Tranny combat on PotD feels like just a die roll since you have zero control of the battlefield.

Yeah but Tyranny has nothing to do with Pillars. The only similarity is that both are isometric and you can pause in combat.

Well I'm definitely seeing those green "engagement" lines (unless they are actually something else), though the enemy critters don't seem to get stuck on them like they did in Pillars.

They really don't seem to give a fuck about engagement unless they get taunted. Part of the reason combat is such a clusterfuck.

badler Is there a console command to advance a part of a quest? I'm stuck here without older saves:

Already shot the winch, lowered the ramp and defeated the party left by Elia, but nothing changes.

Some amazing luck I have. First I got stuck in the Maerwald bug in PoE now this.

Yeah, but I am not sure what it would be for that quest. I'll have to ask an area designer on Monday.

Giving a fuck about engagement was one of the reasons why combat in Pillars lacked challenge, though. My impression of combat in Tyranny so far: trash mobs encounters that seem pointless. And that was exactly my impression of Pillars after playing it for a while. Doesn't matter if the details are different, if the end result is the same.

(I still like the setting more)

Only thing which is a bit of a letdown for me is the combat. Lore, quest design and writing is pretty decent in my opinion.
Solid 7/10. Expected nothing more... I'm thankfull anybody is doing Isometric RPGs these days...

That's my point: combat is just different flavors of bland in both games. Tyranny would be better off developed from scratch.

That said, I kind of like the "childish evil" approach, reminds me a bit of:

People say that they finished the game in like 8-10 hours. Is that with the loading screens or without them?

8-10 hours is impossible, speedrun or no speedrun. I'm at 18 hours and and I'm not past the end of act 2, this is looking like a 25-30 hour game to me, on a fairly completionist playthrough

Super sexy hot tip for all you aspiring RTwP developers out there: include a setting between "suicidal ability-spamming maniac" and "cannot do anything without your guidance" for party AI. Even a banal "attack closest if target dies" mode would be mucho appreciated, especially during Act 1 where every encounter includes at least one *teleports behind you and fucks up targeting* faggot.

Just put none on the right side so they only use basic attacks.

However I noticed they will randomly break engagement to attack a ranged enemy. Best leave it off.
