If they can play at being geneticists, so can I!

Somewhat related, does anyone know what other stuff this new guy Romano-whatever has been working on?

They should take a DNA-sample from Tony Jay's corpse, mix it with one from Christopher Lee and create the best Haunt voice-over ever.
At first, they should stop taking DNA from retarded fans of Assassin's Creed.

Shamus article: http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?p=19440

Comments:

As someone who only first played Thief in around 2007, I can safely say that, no, it’s not a very easy game for people not feeling the nostalgia to get into. And Thief is theoretically the exact sort of thing that I would like (a stealth game where it is absolutely worth not being seen/not killing everyone).

Though, poor graphics aside, my main problem with Thief is that the noble whose house the first level takes place in is apparently the size of a large town, and its basement is lined with identical grey corridors (sound familiar?) so, not exactly the best first impressions.

Basically, the levels were too sprawling for me without any real visual reward for exploration and they plodded on from (sorta) tense almost-seen encounter to another.

I assume the game gets better later on, and Thief 2 is probably really good, but ultimately I only enjoyed my experience with Thief 3, partly because everything was more realistically compact in the city, partly because even similar structures looked at least a little different at a glance.

Having played Thief for the first time around 2011-ish, I can say that no, it is not an easy game to get into at all. But I wasn’t terribly bothered by the graphics. It was the clunky, archaic gameplay, the horrible AI and the obtuse level design that killed it for me.

TG and TMA are two of the most accomplished games in terms of visuals. Very few games do such a good job "painting" the game world with a cohesive aesthetic giving the world a character, something that extends to Garret's character design, and the cutscenes.

When it comes to Thief 1 graphix, the only thing that aged badly were the character models/textures. Definitely not a case in T2, however, the textures were really slick there.

Also, 'clunky archaic gameplay' and "obtuse level design", FFS

Serpent in the Staglands Divinity: Original Sin Project: Eternity Torment: Tides of Numenera Shadorwun: Hong Kong
I played Thief for the first time last year. While the character models clearly suffer from a lack of polygons, that's basically the only problem with the visuals and it's not *that* bad. I prefer how most of it looks to modern Unreal 3 bloom, shiny textures/wax for skin, over done post processing that most games look like these days. Admittedly, I have unusual taste in video game graphics, but Thief doesn't need to be Crysis 3.

It's funny because Deus Ex: Human Revolution was clearly a step behind other AAA games in the graphics department and none of the reviewers or players really gave a fuck.

Decent? I hate everyone who thinks differently.
Complaining about too large, realistic levels is ... well, it's decline. Who here honestly prefers the short Thief 3 levels over the massive 1 sprawls?

This is coming from the guy who took the time to "explain" the plot of Bioshit: Shitfinite, his complete lack of perspective is well established.

Shamus' article is decent, although his stupid complaint about Thief 2's graphics is what emboldened these babies to open their mouths.

Bah, my bad, I thought those were from the actual article. Need coffee.

His only experience with cities and point of reference seems to be what you find in other games, like Oblivion or such.

People who lack spatial awareness. (Read: Can't find their way out a wet paper bag. Yes, I know a few people like that.)

People who have an attention span that make goldfish look focused. (Read: 90% of most gamers today.)

Wow, some of these replies are seriously retarded. The very low poly character models in Thief 1 never bothered me, and I actually prefer them to the higher-res ones that shipped with Thief Gold.

I like how he says "realistically compact" even though the compactness of game worlds is the complete opposite to reality. It's like some generic praise word that can just be applied to invalid arguments to make them suddenly valid

"I'll get you, taffer!"

Although the presence of "taffer" makes this box art very unrealistic :rpgcodex:

Why do these things still cause me to cringe? I mean, really... they can't knock out the drunk guard o_O and talking non-stop so you can't even hear what noise you're making...... deep breath.... deep breath.... I could not watch more than a few minutes and skipped ahead and the same :decline: was still going on. At least the comments seem to be almost 100% against these so-called gamers.
