Can't believe the same studio that made Deus Ex: Human Revolution is making this.
Same studio, but different team inside the studio AFAIK. That explains a lot.

I love how Garrett approaches the loot with his head everytime he grabs it. And the hands always visible. Is he Quasimodo?

Why? Did you think HR had challenging stealth gameplay?

No, but it wasn't retarded.

Indeed, I think it would be churlish and mean-spirited to call DE:HR retarded in any form, it was probably a little too generous in terms of XP/Praxis but I thought everything else about it was excellent, especially compared to other games that have been released in the past 10 years or so. This Thief reboot looks like a step backwards.

They were giving away free games with my ATI videocard. Among them were such timeless classics such as Just Cause 2, DE:HR, and wouldn't you know it, THI4F. It didn't strike me as odd then, but seeing as the game still hasn't been released...

He's G4rrutt, master of inanity.

I still hope they have a mission where G4rrutt faces off against Garrett and Garrett steals all of his clothes and then puts him on a mechanist uboat to the north pole.

Yes, because the game does look good and the artists seem to be talented. It's very sad (but also very funny at the same time) because this could have been so much more than mediocre garbage.

Sorry, but the game doesn't look good. It's grey and looks unoriginal. Everyone fucked up and they don't care. "Fuck it ship it".

Honestly, with all the technology, Eidos should have gone with the fat/skinny guy mechanic in Thief 4. Fat guy makes more noise and can fall through old wood floors. Skinny guy would be agile and would be able to swoop, etc. Skinny guy would gradually gain weight if he healed by eating cheese, bread, etc. Fat guy would be able to knock out guards, but not fight. New Thief, inexperienced, forced to make lots of money in order to free his girl or whatever. Keepers notice him and recruit him and then send him on weird missions, while promising they will help him.

Nah, I'm completely fine with calling the art direction completely retarded. The filter is actually pretty bad for the eyes.

Here's a new preview on PCGamer UK, and for once the comments are far from retarded and made me chuckle: http://www.pcgamer.com/uk/previews/thief-hands-on-the-absent-atmosphere-of-garretts-return/

Just read. Game developers can't create believable worlds anymore. so interior are empty and there's never a risk of getting caught in action?

IGN put a video demonstrating the "homages" to the original thief with the (pseudo)developers. Yes, it's terrible, no homage at all:

"Hi guys, dev team here.

We know what you liked the most in the original Thief games, so we made sure you'll like the new sequel. Your useful and varied selection of arrows, from water arrows to moss arrows, have been nerfed into fucking nothing to ensure simple gameplay. But hey you can still score awsum headshots for bonus EXP. The level design, that before was a masterpiece blending both realism and gameplay flow, is now linear and predictable. We remember how Deadly Shadows was criticized for having a blue hue over everything, so we made sure it was included again. The guards and their realistic behaviour and comments that made the game feel alive are nowhere to be seen because fuck you fans. Oh, right, the rope arrow and how you could use it on any object made of wood, allowing you players to pick your own path in the sandbox missions we created? Poof, gone. Haha! Oh oh i mean, pre-order the game, the "rope arrow" is here. (Its only used in specific moments and displayed for you when you should use it though. So its not really the same thing). What else did you like about the game? The soundtrack? Replaced by another boring orchestra. Oh you liked a game that didnt hold your hand? You felt smart eh, for playing it? Well eat a dick bro, quest markers and slow-mo vision and objects glowing to show you what to get! Ahahahah!

Oh, right. One last thing. The main character you loved? With his badass appearance and sarcastic personality? With the story you grew to love through the trilogy and most importantly, his amazing deep voice that 100% of the fans loved? So we scrapped the entire story and appearance. He's an emo now, with no personality and background! And the voice you all loved? ITS GONE! HA!

Pls buy our game and gib us moneh, you gullible retards. I mean, *ahem*, we care a lot about the fans. We we even included, uh, a statue from the original game holding a key! Totally easter egg Keeper reference amirite? Gogo preorder now and buy our DLC for moar totally classic Thief experience!"

Sincerely,

The Dev team of Thiaf: The Casual Project

One of Thiaf's most dedicated defenders just exploded on the official forums

What's saddest is that this feels like such a simple fix on the devs' parts. They just need to make it so that the houses are a bit more populated, so that the civilians respond to you in some way, or so that the guards are cast as something other than thugs. It is incredibly frustrating as someone who has sat here, spending hours on end defending the game on these forums, on various websites, and on Youtube because of the promise I saw in it, that they could go and

up something that I would have thought would be a relatively obvious thing in Thief. I'm a 21 year old studying medicine, with no experience in game writing, design, or anything, and even I would have put stuff like that in the game. WHY would they change the characterful and interesting guards to boring cliches?! I see decisions that an entire studio of "Thief fans" have made and I can't help but think, as a single inexperienced person, what the hell were they thinking?! Yeah, they want to appeal to the modern gamers etc., I get that, and I've used it often as an argument on the forums. But even then, I know there's a gaping hole in that statement: since when do things like contextual jumping and no rope arrow freedom appeal to modern gamers? There are SO MANY decisions that they have made that are just bizarre, and that I just can't comprehend.

I feel like that if just one of the people on this forum were on that dev team they would have stepped in at some point and said that they were making a massive mistake with changing Stephen Russell, or removing freeform jumping, or taking out the Hammerites and Pagans in favour of a rich and poor trope that's been played out ad nauseam, or using a generic downtrodden Victorian city in place of the interesting medeival metropolis with collector towers, and Keepers etc. etc. Why did they do it?! The original Thief games had so much content that it isblatantly obvious belongs in ANY Thief game. With everything they've revealed, all of the obvious Thief elements have been stripped away one by one. First went SR. Then went the factions and the lore. Then went the interesting City. Then went the gameplay mechanics, like rope arrows. Then went the writing. Then went the non-linear timesinks of levels that were a joy to explore. And now they've programmed all the AIs as generic thugs with no personality other than "I'm evil"? NONE of those things should EVER have been taken out, EM. None of them.

They've scraped along with the bare minimum to call it a Thief game- yeah, it's a stealth game, yeah it's got Garrett and stealing stuff, but all of the interesting parts of Thief just aren't there anymore. I hate to admit it, I hate saying this so much, but it's true. And I will still buy this game because I still want to believe it's good, but if you make a Thief 5 and pay the same amount of respect to the franchise as you have with this game, don't expect any of my money.

When you plant shit seeds, you get shit weeds my friend. We all know the feeling.

Yea, that guy is going to teach Eidos a lesson for screwing up this game by buying it anyway!

well, the only thing strange is that he still will buy...

I'm curious too see how bad the game is, i'm inclined to put myself into more suffering by trying the game, but I'll never give a cent into buying this game.

I kinde pitty the guy. This sudden realization must have been a shock. Funny thing is that we knew this all along, so it is not much of a shock for us.

It's about time these apologists in denial started seeing Thi4f for what it really is. The question is why is he even going to waste his money on that game?

Because he is a deluded moron who is in a state of denial that, no doubt, as I type is getting reinforced by every apologist on the official forums.

I have to ask. Who is this dedicated defender ?. Back when I was still posting over there Viktoria/Jerion/Master Taffer and Ashpolt where the most vocal white knights.

And that's why we can't have good stuff, 'cause the morons will buy anything as long as it's hyped/advertised enough. The idiot is part of the problem, but he doesn't realize it.
