Same studio, but different team inside the studio AFAIK. That explains a lot. Can't believe the same studio that made Deus Ex: Human Revolution is making this.

Why? Did you think HR had challenging stealth gameplay?

No, but it wasn't retarded.
I love how Garrett approaches the loot with his head everytime he grabs it. And the hands always visible. Is he Quasimodo?
Different teams, but still, mismanagement will screw over everyone no matter how talented. Can't believe the same studio that made Deus Ex: Human Revolution is making this.
Yes, because the game does look good and the artists seem to be talented. It's very sad (but also very funny at the same time) because this could have been so much more than mediocre garbage.

Indeed, I think it would be churlish and mean-spirited to call DE:HR retarded in any form, it was probably a little too generous in terms of XP/Praxis but I thought everything else about it was excellent, especially compared to other games that have been released in the past 10 years or so. This Thief reboot looks like a step backwards.
Here's a new preview on PCGamer UK, and for once the comments are far from retarded and made me chuckle: http://www.pcgamer.com/uk/previews/thief-hands-on-the-absent-atmosphere-of-garretts-return/
What's saddest is that this feels like such a simple fix on the devs' parts. They just need to make it so that the houses are a bit more populated, so that the civilians respond to you in some way, or so that the guards are cast as something other than thugs. It is incredibly frustrating as someone who has sat here, spending hours on end defending the game on these forums, on various websites, and on Youtube because of the promise I saw in it, that they could go andup something that I would have thought would be a relatively obvious thing in Thief. I'm a 21 year old studying medicine, with no experience in game writing, design, or anything, and even I would have put stuff like that in the game. WHY would they change the characterful and interesting guards to boring cliches?! I see decisions that an entire studio of "Thief fans" have made and I can't help but think, as a single inexperienced person, what the hell were they thinking?! Yeah, they want to appeal to the modern gamers etc., I get that, and I've used it often as an argument on the forums. But even then, I know there's a gaping hole in that statement: since when do things like contextual jumping and no rope arrow freedom appeal to modern gamers? There are SO MANY decisions that they have made that are just bizarre, and that I just can't comprehend.
I feel like that if just one of the people on this forum were on that dev team they would have stepped in at some point and said that they were making a massive mistake with changing Stephen Russell, or removing freeform jumping, or taking out the Hammerites and Pagans in favour of a rich and poor trope that's been played out ad nauseam, or using a generic downtrodden Victorian city in place of the interesting medeival metropolis with collector towers, and Keepers etc. etc. Why did they do it?! The original Thief games had so much content that it isblatantly obvious belongs in ANY Thief game. With everything they've revealed, all of the obvious Thief elements have been stripped away one by one. First went SR. Then went the factions and the lore. Then went the interesting City. Then went the gameplay mechanics, like rope arrows. Then went the writing. Then went the non-linear timesinks of levels that were a joy to explore. And now they've programmed all the AIs as generic thugs with no personality other than "I'm evil"? NONE of those things should EVER have been taken out, EM. None of them.
They've scraped along with the bare minimum to call it a Thief game- yeah, it's a stealth game, yeah it's got Garrett and stealing stuff, but all of the interesting parts of Thief just aren't there anymore. I hate to admit it, I hate saying this so much, but it's true. And I will still buy this game because I still want to believe it's good, but if you make a Thief 5 and pay the same amount of respect to the franchise as you have with this game, don't expect any of my money.

I kinde pitty the guy. This sudden realization must have been a shock. Funny thing is that we knew this all along, so it is not much of a shock for us.One of Thiaf's most dedicated defenders just exploded on the official forums

It's about time these apologists in denial started seeing Thi4f for what it really is. The question is why is he even going to waste his money on that game?

well, the only thing strange is that he still will buy...
