I'm interested, but Thief being one of my all time favourite game, I don't take a dumbed down sequel lightly. That's why I asked some critical questions.

Sorry, Invictus, but with all the horrible things we've seen and read about the game over the last few months it's just very difficult to take you seriously without even an ounce of proof to back up what you're saying.

I would very much like for the game not to suck, but I find your post a bit hard to believe.

Yep the gem goes only dark light and middle and from what I was told the PS4 version has the light gem system integrated into the controler screen.
Oh so now I am a rat for sharing this? Mmm guess I won't be posting thoughts here since most of your minds are made up over the game beign bad, had some cool pics but I rather not risk it then since you guys are not interested anyway, so I will just leave you with the parting thought that it is pretty good and while compromises have been made most of those are optional

Reported for being a plant.

Thiaf used to be a D1P(day 1 pirate) for me but with The Dark Mod going standalone, currently playing Thief Gold and still having fan missions on my backlog i just don't care anymore.

Here's a hilarious new article about Thi4f; http://www.pcgamesn.com/thief/hands-thief-0

Highlights:
"The main objectives are often at odds with the most enjoyable parts of the game and at their worst they seem to betray a misunderstanding of what Thief is ideally supposed to be about. At its very lowest point, the game features free-running sequences in which control is taken off you in a sort of obligatory and half-hearted hat-tip Mirror’s Edge, and one-directional, third-person, Uncharted-lite climbing bits - which we can probably all agree is absolute rubbish."

"The guards aren’t especially bright either. You can use arrows and throwable items to guide their attentions in certain directions, but their hunting behaviour is either so incompetent as to be not apparent or simply not implemented. I experienced a guard brushing right past me, his model clipping through half of Garrett’s face, who somehow didn’t notice I was there."

"At this stage Thief feels erratic, a stealth game that often forgets its business and lapses into mindless, action-based tomfoolery."

Game comes out in a month.

I can never watch those gameplay videos to the end. Usually the first two minutes make me physically ill. To dare to shit on a franchise so hard and keep a straight face like that? "Oh we love our fans!" How can they be so shameless? It seriously makes me stressed.

In the article above, its mentioned that on your way back to the Clocktower you get to find a jewelry store and loot it. It makes it sound as if it was optional:

In the very first chapter, for example, you’re tasked with making your way back to your clocktower home, a route that takes you straight through the glittery guts of a jewellery store. Stealing a gem-encrusted mask becomes your primary distraction...

At least it sounded to me, as if the reviewer felt like reaching for that mask personally. That impressed me a lot - hidden loot like that that are easy to miss and hard to get. But on the video above, we can see that its not hidden at all - there's a huge NEW OBJECTIVE screen telling you what to steal. What Square Enix doesnt understand is that to make a game harder, you dont just allow guards to see you farther or kill you faster - you also have to stop holding the hand of your players. Notice how as soon as he approaches the door, it shows which button he needs to press to unlock it - do i need to be constantly reminded of which button (out of 4) has to be used to open the fucking door? Is this game designed for adult players, or for retards? I wonder how we managed to play the original games opening every door without a huge < PRESS MOUSE 2 TO OPEN DOOR > reminding our little brains of which button was it again. Notice even the candles have a floating square button on top of them if you approach - just in case the retard forgot which button it was after several hours of gameplay. We can see that this game was clearly designed for kids - the kind of kid that plays Skyim and thinks he's an "rpg fan". Thief players remember, for example, that Thief 2 mission where you have to set the clocks in the map in a specific time in order to unlock a door, remember that? Or how in the first game you had to find all secret switches in the Hammerite Temple to open the passageway for the elemental amulet? Things like that were never explained explicitly for the player with an on-screen pop-up or a NEW OBJECTIVE screen. It was just hidden there - you had to get in the world, to immerse yourself and find out through written notes how to proceed. Its a game that actually made you think - running around popping arrows will not get you anywhere. And that is what we wanted - its not about "deactivating loot glint" you Square Enix shitpits. Its about the level design. This is what happens when developers that dont understand what a franchise is about try to make a sequel for it.

Hmph, sorry. I got really pissed.

That video must be really horrible if it makes Dishonored seem good by comparison. I'm afraid to look.

It just looks like a Dishonored mod to me. Slightly better graphics and lots of extra pop-ups.

What the fuck is that bloom shit? Every so often it blooms to a dark colour then goes back to normal bloom.

Alright, there's roughly a month left until this abomination will be released. Will we be able to push this thread to 200 pages before then?

Unless the game leaks early or they share something that is MASSIVE decline, incline, recline or clothesline, I doubt it.

So many wrong with that video Morgoth linked. Fucking focus mode, pre-scripted rope arrow shooting, tooltips hovering over everything, ridiculous swooping, holding the hands like a pervert. Fuck this.

everything is so fucking clear, that I can't imagine garrotto being 'invisible' at all. And it will be pretty silly when some AI passes through you and fails to see you, even though it's so clear.

The originals sometimes demanded you to suspend your disbelif regarding this, but at least you could define a dark area, it's shadows, and when you were vulnerable because there was a little light source.

In dishonored, they removed light detection and many people complained, but the levels had no definite shadows and a light gem would feel silly.

Can't believe the same studio that made Deus Ex: Human Revolution is making this.
