Always do that before combat. I ain't no fool. The problem with those death spells is that they are only working on enemies that have very weak saving throw chance so they're basically a misnomer. Why would you waste dozens of spell point on low level mob using death cloud if the same effect can be achieved with one maxed out nuclear blast or whipping rocks?
As for silencing. Most of the serious magic casters in the game have also a strong resistance to most schools of magic therefore trying to silence them is just a waste of turn and SPs. You can silence some weak siges that are way bellow your level by the time you can cast this spell efficiently, which means you don't need to use silence by that time anyway, because those weaklings can't do the shit with their faggy magics.

Piety is for spell points and helps to cast divine effectively and intelligence is for everything else. That's not a problem. My alchemic, for example, has a powercast 80 already and piety is maxed out too. The problem described above stems from the fact that some spells are just kinda useless.

With high powercast the DC of spells also rises. But asphixification, death cloud, death wish, quicksand, etc haven't been too usefull on high-level mobs for me either. They're best used against not-so-high-level enemies with lots of hp.
Makes me appreciate my fighter all the more :smug:

Instakills like death wish/asphyxiation may not be the most useful against higher level mobs, but death cloud is always cool. That's because it's a persistent bitch, so cast it once, and the bastards have a chance of dying every turn, which is splendid.

Yeah I went and asked my friend if he had installed and used some trainer or some such to start his W8 game(he was trying it for the first time on my PC) and he told me he did not but that he had instead installed the DEMO version from one of my disks(probably Wizardry archives...?) because he did not know I had W8 already installed on the machine. He was asking for my help in the beginning so I walked over(thinking he was playing W8, full version) and helped him but I guess the demo starts you at level 5.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I won vanilla with all casters, instan-kill works great on high-end mobs, esp with almost everyone casting them.
Any tips for Dodd's mod? What close range weapon should I use for ninja, bard & ranger. No I'm not taking the fairy ninja.

Why'd you want to even consider close range weapons for those? Ninjas and rangers do their best work with throwing weapons, which have even more dangerous types of ammunition in Dodd's, and you don't want your bard to be attacking, oh no, save that sweet stamina for the instruments, which are, if at all possible, even more overpowered than in vanilla.

For Dodd's, the name of the game is MP regen gear. As soon as you get to Arnika, buy the MP regen stuff Lord Braffit sells. You WILL be happy you did so. You will have a full outfit of MP regen gear on your main casters pretty early in the game, thus being able to spam gigantic AoE spells in nearly every single fight.

Also, recruit HK-47, I mean RFS-81. One of the best weapons in the midgame is equippable only by him and even unarmed he is completely incomparable.

The ammunition problem is solved with the Dodd's mod + me so I can play differently from vanilla.

Edited to add: using the cosmicforge editor, looks like ninja's only get 1 new extra throwing item, not to mention the existing throwing items have been nerfed. *Shrugs* I'll can edit my own now.

I found them to be pretty useless against the newly introduced high level foes. But then I also have seen Seraph`s Decree at power level 4 dealing 10 points of damage.

Again they are pretty useless against the new enemies.

important point of MP regen gear is that you pretty much don´t have to rest at all, which cuts tedium of going through respawns.
and again, buffs/debuffs are where it´s at. however, there are useful offensive spells in Dodd´s + Tweaks, magnify gravity in particular (available to bishops, alchemists and bards).

granted, it´s not useful against some bosses (good thing), but this spell alone can cut a lot of potential tedium when dealing with Dodd´s high-HP enemy groups.

Bards and Gadgeteers give the players no control over the power level of the spells the items uses. Buffing is most of the time good but debuffing is like damage dealing pretty shitty with both.

Seraph's Decree deals on average 105 damage per powerlevel, that means at 4 it should have dealt 420 damage which got reduced to 10!!!
There have been enemies that were UNEFFECTED by Magnify Gravity on power level 6 or so! Wasted 210 mana points!
And forget any elemental spell against any of the new enemies having Elemental Shield up. You would just be wasting mana.

admittedly i don´t know the exact math behind this, but i´m pretty sure that points in music/engineering and, more importantly, character level have major influence over power level of instruments/gadgets use. around level 22 or so, my bard was consistently using all instruments, incl. the most advanced ones, at level 6-7. in the party from the picture above, she also ended the game with most kills by quite a big margin and she spent majority of time in combat just playing instruments.

yeah, there are resistances in place and the difference between caster and enemy level has a huge influence on spell effectiveness. offensive spells aren´t always useful, but there´s a lot of situations where they are, mostly when it comes to above mentioned tedium-cutting.
you know that in Dodd you can get a certain item which can recharge a rather big chunk of mana and has unlimited uses, right?

yeah when the level difference is too big, it comes down to good positioning, armormelt and buff´n´hack. i didn´t find the amount of such encounters to be aggravating, but, well, mileages vary.

What lvl were you when you beat the lvl 45 enemies?
And how much grinding was involved to get there?

One major change for Dodd's patch is that the kill% for all weapons are drastically reduced.

Edited to add: it was actually Daegan's tweaks that changed the figures.

at the end of the game, party was at level 32-33.
i definitely don´t do any skill grinding, engage in potion making for profit, etc.
from what i remember, i´ve dispatched Barlone at level 10, those bandit gangs were dealt with at 10-12 (psionic spells were really useful there, Insanity and Hypnotic Lure in particular), i´ve started to deal with those level 35 capture gangs and retro dungeons around level 21, dispatched all optional "gorrors" (including level 50 ones) around level 28 - gadgeteer was especially useful there since all other spellcasting was prohibited in that area.
the only bit of grinding i´ve done was close to the end of the game at the Ascension Peak (i was roaming there for a while in hope to encounter some high level vanilla monsters, wasn´t much successful), but that made about 1 level difference.
unlike in vanilla, in Dodd´s it´s easy to reach higher levels even with 8 party members, because starting around level 20 a lot of mod´s random encounters can net you 300000 - 500000 experience per battle (and that´s where maxed Magnify Gravity rule).

allright I`m derailing this a little bit...I`ve been having problem getting this sweet, sweet beast working on my fuktard laptop.

I have windows 7 32bit (Home premium) and whenever i launch the game the screen goes black and then happens what I suppose is a CTD.
Version 1.2.4 vanilla, Resolution 800x600, 2d miles fast sound, directx7

I tried compatibility WinXP sp 2, sp 3, Windows 98 and even without compatibility shit... I have the same problem with every fucking config I try.
(I`m not sure if there is an error log in wiz8 directory I tried to find it but i don`t know?

And the fucking game was working fine 1 month ago, before I partitioned the hd to reinstall all the games far away from the system partition...

Can anybody help a fellow codexer that wants to enjoy hours of intense combat?

You mean switching to directx6? Yes and no joy.
I read from page 1 to page 13 and I found little to nothing helpful in there (well not for my problem).

Game will still go black at the startup and disappear without as much as an error message stating what the fuck is all about.
tried OpenGL with fix, same problem.
It seems to me that no matter what compination of settings I try it won`t work...what am I missing?

Try all the different graphics settings and switch back to already used ones too. When my game didn't recognize the CD in the drive I switched from DirectX 7 to 6 to OpenGl to 7 again and suddenly everything worked! Maybe leave the CD out of the drive and see if you get the correct error message.

Nope, doesn't change anything.
Tried reinstalling in default folder all resolutions, from softeware to openGL (with fixes) and from all the sound configurations.

The fucking game doesnt want to start, the fucking black screen and desktop made me ragequit on the game but it's painful...anybody has other suggestions?

Do I have to burn the laptop?

I got diseased in the monastery and the nearest cure is Arnika. And disease cause permanent stat loss with time so I dare not sleep and had to get through Arnika which is blocked by 5 groups of monsters. Tough without sleeping.

I look in my pack and found a potion of Chameleon so I tried to hug the walls and sneak by but failed everytime. In the end I ran in combat mode and reached the Arnika map with most of my party unconscious.Then I had to fight Onyx and finally got a cure at the temple.

This is what happens when you start the game in a dungeon without proper adventuring facilities. And why are the cure spells higher level than the cause spells?

Cosmic Forge (the editor) is a must-have for me now.

Maybe just kill the diseased character and res him in Arnika?

Decided to take a break from Might & Magic and play this instead. Sweet fuck the constant encounters are annoying. Unlike Fallout 2 this has potential though so I'll stick to it. And I can certainly see why the codex likes it. :smug:
