I was wondering what carries over. Do your class, stats, level and race all transfer or do you kind of make new characters with bonuses or something? I have no idea and I wanted to kinda plan ahead.

*dr. one those links were great. Now does anyone know why running the programs in full screen messes up the colors?

*also if I want a wulf lord do I really need to just keep reloading until I gets the stats needed to pick the class???

If you import PCs from W7 to W8 then you start at level 5, just like newly created characters but with a few select items from W7 and I think some approximation of stat scores and you also start in a different area(bypassing the monastery dungeon). Rather 'MEH' overall I think.

EDIT: oops...I thought you were talking about transferring characters from one game to the other. it seems you are talking about class-switching in W7.
When you switch classes in W7 you DO need to have the qualifying stats to do so(stats rise kind of randomly as you gain levels) so if you want to start the game with a fairy ninja or what have you then you need to re-roll(or use a cheat but even the cheat keypress thing only works AFTER class selection to increase bonus points) for hours.

And when you switch classes you do lose all stat gains and start with the bare minimum stats to qualify for that class but this is more than made up for by the increase in power/skills you can get fairly rapidly. Most suggest beginning your class changing before level 8 or so IIRC because for the amount of XP you need to go from level 8 to level 9 in a class, you can gain 7 levels in the class you switch to(and thus boost all your skills up to insane levels by constant switching)

Where you start in Wiz 8 depends solely on who you sided with in 7, which is pretty cool, not meh. C&C baby.

Yeah, I'm talking about taking a party through all three games. What kind of stuff carries over between characters from 6 into 7?

It may be "cool", but a) "C&C" my ass b) the character system changed heavily between 7 and 8, so that importing your dualclassed half-gods isn't exactly the thing you want to do. Whatever pleases you.

I think you got me wrong there. Imho wizardry was never about this overused meme c&c. and due to the heavy changes in Wizardry 8 the conversion feels rather awkward.
I mean judging by your comments about your love for the VO and other (well done) but not really important stuff, I rather assume the faggot is you. Wizardry 8 isn't a storyfag game, it is the last western mainstream crawler and should be treated with respect.

Also I say it again, matter of preference: if you enjoy that weird sense of continuity if you play the same dudes, happy slashing!

Explain exactly what is "awkward" in importing a Wiz 7 party. I assume you want to be godlike after all your "Hard work"/Hex Editing?

Are you drunk? What are you trying to explain here?

That your party will be most of the time weaker than freshly generated characters. Imho wizardy 7 has no controlling attributes for skills and multiclassing is usually weak in 8. Doesn't matter though, forget what I said before.

Also you seem to imply that I like cheating or wahtever, quite the contrary I like challenges, for example playing 3 man Ironman games and horribly dying after encountering your first crimson poppies.

So, all this butthurt from the buttlovers aside, I noticed that my dracon fighter was dishing out dmg that was simply ridiculous for the early levels (between 17-23 dmg). Then I made the mistake of looking at the available axes and switched to swords...
Well, I don't know if it's because I started at a lower skill level again and had to fight higher level monsters but the dmg was down to 10-14 eventhough the equipped sword supposedly did more dmg than the axe. Or perhaps berserk affects the different attack forms thrust, bash and swing or weapon types differently?

The manual didn't provide help. Can you?

Fun fact: the bulky savant troopers use the same sound sample as the pigmen in Moonstone when they are hit in combat. :D

Most likely explanation: Your sword skill sucks compared to your axe skill. Level your sword skill, you will begin laying the smackdown on foo's once again.

Some enemies simply have dmg reduction and I was encountering mostly them. Now I've had a few others and the fighter is back to dishing out 50 (80 in some cases if the enemy is incapacitated) points of dmg a strike (of course with a newer, better weapon, more skill points and more strength). Gotta love those physical dmg-dealers :salute:

The "MEH" was in regards to the way the actual characters are imported, not on where they start.

Speaking for me personally, I just do not see the point in even offering the 'import party' function. You are NOT actually importing your party from W7, nor could you unless W8 was about being a party of gods on some godly quest to do god-stuff. You instead start off as newly created W8 characters, keeping your W7 names(which you could do anyway without importing) and getting an alternate starting position(which they could have allowed also without importing).

Quit being a cunt kiddo.

Hmmm...how to translate this to Cunt-speak.

Wizardry 8 is a real RPG. it is all about strategy and tactics, stats etc. it is not one of those games where you are given a pre-generated character with a cliche background story and set off to recruit other cliches and spend most of the game reading bad dialog and narration.

That IF you are enthralled with the idea that "Hey I finished Wizardry 7 with some guys named Billy, Tom, Harvey and jack and they aligned themselves with the Rhino-humpers so now I get to name my Wizardry 8 guys Billy, Tom, Harvey and Jack and start off at the Rhino-humpers fabulous base!" then have fun! Enjoy! More power to ya'!

Well, you start at lvl. 5 instead of lvl. 1 and you have a certain feeling of continuity throughout the series. For me that are some good reasons why to import.
That said, it's of course entirely optional and doesn't bring any really substantial benefits.

well, basically as i see it, if you play through the whole trilogy, there´s no point in not importing.
you do get a better sense of continuity as starting position and intro are affected by your ending. level 5 is negligible, but you import some items as well, some of whose can´t be acquired otherwise in the game you import to, iirc.
and there´s the nice easter egg-y bit involving Bela and diamond ring.
personally, i´ve found the opportunity to import the party i´ve spent shitload of time playing through W7 back in the day from an eight year old save to be waaay cool :).

also, in W7 starting position makes quite a difference.

You do not start at level one in Wizardry 8, as I have said like 3 times now. You start at level FIVE whether you import or not. All newly created characters start AT LEVEL five.

And AGAIN, as we have said, if you enjoy the continuity of starting off in a different area based on what your party did in Wizardry 7(even though you are not really importing THAT party at all) then that is fine. More power to you. To me it seems rather 'Meh' to go through all of Wizardry 7 for this minor benefit. If you have already completed W7 then sure, why not...I guess(except you miss out on some other things by creating new characters in W8, such as creating a Gadgeteer).

For me, I don't see much point in this at all. They could have easily done an Ultima IV style question & answer period at the beginning of Wizardry 8 along the lines of:

A)Your party has landed on Lost Gaurdia, weary from the flight but thankful that you allied yourself with the...

1)Umpani
2)T'rang
3)Society for Creative Anachronism

B)Much of what you brought was destroyed when you crashed but you had the foresight to store your...

1)Diamond ring
2)Excalibur
3)Cane of Corpus

...in a safe place and it is undamaged.

And so on.

But to each his own and this is a rather insignificant issue for me anyway. I probably won't be importing anyone from anywhere on any of my playthroughs.

False. Go boot up a game right now and check. I just now DID and they start at level 5.

False again. Here is where you guys are fucking up. After you create your party, you will be prompted to level up FOUR MORE TIMES to get to level 5, selecting spells and skill increases and such at each level-up.

You start the game at level 5.
