I seem to recall those old games when I was younger and not really that 'smart' or patient enough to solve that I can't beat. e.g Realms of Arkania

But recently I booted up a not so ancient game by Black Isle, namely Lionheart. I remember when I was younger I loved Fallout and bought Lionheart expecting the same 'SPECIAL' system gameplay and awesome bloody mess perk adventures in medieval times.

Then I remembered throwing the CD out of my window in a week. Recently I gave it a download. I'm quite deep into the game, and about to give up again. I'm really curious how they playtested the game with some non combat skills in mind. Basically if your character is not built for combat, magic or physical, you're screwed. No amount of potion spamming and reloads are going to take you past the bosses and hundreds of minions blocking your way.

I'm stunned at the brutality of the combat and fumbled around the options menu for 'Easy' combat  no dice. Black Isle wants me to toughen up. I'm about to uninstall it now, but before I Do that, I hope someone could tell me how to beat this game without cheating. I did a high AC build with shield+1 H Specialty, taking protective divine magic and I still get hit so hard late game. I did a 2 Hander with heavy dmg buff, and still get ripped to shreds when I met bosses.

So, what other games do you think are just too 'hard' for its own good?

How to beat lionheart:

1: Take one (1) Lionheart CD. Place atop a solid object, such as a cinderblock, tabletop, cinderblock tabletop, or comatose hospital patient.

2: Take one (1) Whip, Cat'O'Nine'Tails, Egg Beater, or Billy club.

3: Rigorously and with much vigor, beat Lionheart until it is reduced to a paste-like consistency. If you wish, you may accompany your beaten Lionheart with a choice of side salads.

4: Profit

As for too hard, JA2 Wildfire Expert Solo with Ironman mode is almost as easy and enjoyable as playing counterstrike with your tongue. Modded FN-FAL Elite Level 10 patrols in the first sector ftw?

I actually had the thoughest moment not long ago in IWD.

In Dragon's Eye the place of those fake priests. Even though that area was exceptionally difficult, the combat there was much more fun that in the BG games.

My party and the allied party were going through the rooms killing yuan-ti and trolls left and right. The enemy was everywhere. They came in on you in every direction! That was a damn hard spot and I nearly left it at that(although later came back and did it).

Another tought place was in BG 2. I didnt understand the rules, I started as already pretty high in to the levels and the world was damn overwhelming. I couldnt beat the quest where you had to resque the Sigil actors. Once through the portal I was dead.

Its kind of funny. Nothing can hurt me in SoA now. And yet in IWD I had my ass handed to me several times and no even on the most hardest setting. The combat and dungeons were at least much better done there than in Bioware games.

The first time I took on the Demogorgon in Throne of Bhaal, that was the first time I understood how important a challenge was.

Then there was System Shock 2 were every dark coridor was an enemy, I spent the first 3 hours trying to pwn zombies left and right untill I finally understood that I was playing the game wrong.

the most hardest setting
hard, harder, hardest, more hard, most hard, more harder, most harder, more hardest, most hardest? Wow, sounds like a really hard setting *g*

OT:
In Dungeon Master there was a creature on the last lvl that could kill me with two hits. I didn't have to kill it, i just had to find a key on the ground. Well, i didn't manage to kill the creature and i diddn't manage to evade its attacks and find the key. So Dungeon Master is the only RPG i didn't finish because it was too hard.

Personally i just slayered Demogorgon to pieces, The battle directly before him i enjoyed. Although my tactics were always a little... direct in BG2 "SWORD MEET EVIL!"

I think the hardest was the beast with 1000 eyes in wiz7, but it's optional.
I slayed it one time only.

Its a very easy game, just build a better character. Thats half the fun of rpgs. RoA is a very easy series if you make good builds. By the middle to near the end you can safely have computer controlled battles and win them all without taking damage (for a good chunk of battles).

An rpg I just can't beat is EoB2. I've been stuck trying to find some sort of secret in the wall or portal since I first played though. I can't find it.

Do you relaly think Lionheart is an old game? How old are you?

I don't think the problem is Lionheart or IWD being hard games, just that the every released since then, like the kotors and nwn, etc, have been so rediculously easy.

Wiz 8 on ironman, and ToEE on Ironman are examples of hard games.

I found Demogorgon to be quite easy. His guardians were much harder for me.

The hardest boss for me was the last fight in ToB. It was probably because my party was really unfit for the job( I had way too many mages and not enough fighters, who can take lots of damage and dish out alot themselves without having to cast anything). I was too lazy to keep trying so I just exploited a bug that allwos you to summon multiple planetars.

I paralyzed this particular creature with a magic box, grabbed the key, charged YOU KNOW WHAT and went up... but the little creature there still always pwnd me.

That probably was the best moment in the game as far as being one hell of a fight. Unfortunately it goes downhill for awhile after that.

If they had kept the pace they had going until the very end of Dragon's Eye I might agree. But a ton of the middle section of the game is pretty uninspired. Whereas Dragon's Eye, the Temple of the Forgotton God, and Kresselack's Tomb threw enemies that were already pretty tough at your party, but in greater numbers, a lot of the places after that had boring combat against foes who stood no chance like the Severed Hand and a lot of Upper Dorn's Deep.

And I really was a little sad that a lot of the fights in the end were just a bunch of creatures running up to melee you with no ranged supporters or spellcasters like in the earlier parts of the game. Ah well.

Some more challenging experiences include:

-The Fiend from Morridor's Box showing up in the empty Curst. That thing was a beast. It took absolutely everything I had to kill it.

-Demogorgon, the Demilich, and the Ravager were all pretty hard. Some of the lich fights were pretty decent along with some of the dragons.

-Wasteland I knew was going to be hard the first time I went somewhere I probably shouldn't have. That and Scorpitron.

-Realms of Arkania.....in which despite preparing as best I could...somebody would always seemingly get some sort of disease which would eventually lead to death.

I spent ages throwing fireballs and retreating up the stairs...sleeping...throwing fireballs....repeat ad nauseum.

The Dragon I believe? He left behind lots of juicy steak.

Generally if I like an RPG, I will finish it regardless of the difficulty. Many times I have gotten bored with a game and simply given up. Those are usually the games that I know I should never bother thinking 'Hmm, perhaps the game was actually quite good. Maybe I should give it another whirl'.

The anagram at the end of M&M2. That was pretty hard for a 11 year old Swedish kid, who, a decade and half later, has learnt what an 'anagram' is, but still fails at English.

Edward R Murrow, I noticed that in that Severed Hand place, yes. I was expecting to fight a next level of more powerful monsters but instead got toughened goblins and orcs that were invinisble. Great . Had a crappy party and stopped playing after that.

Realm of Arcania can be quite annoying to play without a walkthrough, not so much because the games are "hard", but due to the trial & error / save & reload required to progress. It's frustrating when you have to reclear a dungeon because you forgot something important, or having to randomly enter every house in a town, looking for story-related NPCs.

There are also horrible bugs. I couldn't finish Shadows over Riva because I talked to a wrong person and did a wrong quest and 15 hours later a critical NPC didn't spawn.

RoA is extremely boring to me, so I'll put that one as mine because the sheer boredom of it made it hard. I really liked Darklands though.

Have somebody managed to beat Kangaxx without the so called cheese tactics(turning in to Slayer, buying protection scrolls).
