This channel has interesting stories about Kickstarter projects.
Not necessarily.Normies have always underestimated how expensive videogame development is.
Hollow Knight was made with just 57000$ from Kickstarter in 3 years. Not necessarily.
The triple A slop? Hell yeah it's expensive!
The indie stuff? Depends.
You need money for pretty much everything, but many autists who think they've mastered game design decide to start kickstarters for their projects but then never deliver and, in the worst case scenarios, run away with the money.
It's almost predatory.
Exactly. In 10 year timeframe i can count maybe 2-3 games from Begstarter that were alright. The entire oldschool RPG renaissance was a clown show of has-beens and amateurs.
Camelot Unchained raised 2.3mil dollars and has nothing to show for, really.
We made good use of it too and I think our timeline from kickstarter to release was around 9 months.Between the time we announced a Kickstarter, ran it, sent people their stuff, <6 months elapsed. I think Kickstarter can be a good leverage for some project. For users however, you have to kind of navigate projects that will never ship and so on.
That's a lot of exceptions. Your tag suits you.Throwing money in the wind.
Rare for a kickstarter to actually succeed at the goals originally planned.
Fuck kickstarters.
which ruined the focus on realm vs realm combat.
Fuck you nigger.Without Kickstarter we wouldn't have
A Hat in Time
BattleTech
Bard's Tale 4
Blasphemous
Chivalry
Distance
Divinity Original Sin
Divinity Original Sin 2
FTL
Grim Dawn
Hard West
Hollow Knight
Kingdom Come Deliverance
Pathologic 2
Pillars of Eternity
Pillars of Eternity 2
Rimworld
Sea of Stars
Shadowrun
Squad
Star Citizen
Starmancer
Sunless Seas/Sunless Skies
Virtual Reality (Oculus)
Wasteland 2&3
Xenonauts 1/2
and that's just off the top of my head, games I actually backed. Crowdfunding has been a net positive and the only people who could possibly disagree with that are AAA slop lovers.

Fuck kickstarters.
While KS gave us a lot of mediocrities it also brought back a beloved PI from the past, Tex Murphy, so I will always be grateful for that.
Tesla Effect, Obduction, Quern (and now Dimhaven Enigmas) gave life to a genre which is in a worse state than rpgs, suffocated by visual novels and walking sims.
