Last time I played M&M I played 2-3-4-5-6 then played 7 for a bit but got too burned out...
Last time I played M&M I played 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8, HOMM1-2-3, and all the HC, in correct in-universe chronological order, and I didn't burn out. You guys are fags :rpgcodex:

(it did take me a VERY long time, but I had an absolute blast with it).

Did 3-5 have the character advancement quests? I can't remember if they did; if they didn't, it was quite a neat thing to bring back from 2.
If you mean the + quests from Mt Farview, no, it didn't. Though I wasn't particularly enamored with them in 2; they were just more pointless padding for the MQ, and aside from a couple of them (mainly Cleric and Sorcerer, both of which were quite fun) all the others boiled down to "go kill this guy". And said guy was always quite easy to kill.

What is the correct in-universe chronological order for entire M&M series?

From earlier ITT:

Might and Magic I: Secret of the Inner Sanctum
Might and Magic II: Gates to Another World
Might and Magic III: Isles of Terra
Might and Magic IV-V: World of Xeen (finish Cloudside before Darkside)
Heroes Chronicles: Warlord of the Wasteland
Heroes Chronicles: Conquest of the Underworld
Heroes Chronicles: Revolt of the Beastmasters
Heroes Chronicles: Master of the Elements
Heroes Chronicles: The World Tree
Heroes Chronicles: The Fiery Moon
Heroes of Might and Magic I
Heroes of Might and Magic II: The Succession Wars
Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Shadow of Death
Might and Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven
(Foolhardy Waywardness campaign from Armageddon's Blade)
Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Restoration of Erathia
Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor
Heroes of Might and Magic III: Armageddon's Blade (except last campaign, see above)
Might and Magic VIII: Day of the Destroyer
Heroes Chronicles: Clash of the Dragons
Heroes Chronicles: The Sword of Frost
Heroes of Might and Magic IV
Might and Magic IX: Writ of Fate

Notice that the HOMM2 expansion doesn't seem to fit anywhere in the timeline, but then it wasn't developed by NWC. Also, I've no idea if the HOMM4 expansions fit, but I don't think they do. The AB campaigns are largely independant but they all seem to occur after the main AB campaign (except for Foolhardy Waywardness which definitely occurs where I've placed it, per its ending). And finally, some could be easily swapped around; there's no mention IIRC of the real order in which Revolt, Master and Tree/Moon occur, but leaving Tree/Moon for last makes more sense in light of the end of Fiery Moon and how Clash of the Dragons starts. Oh and Swords of Xeen supposedly takes place right after WOX but it has some odd stuff that contradicts much of the M&M lore.

You guys are fags :rpgcodex:.

Well, who else would play colourful, campy games?:codexisfor:

In my defense, it's my first time playing through them, and I'm trying to do as much as I can sans walkthrough/spoilers. Plus the games tend to be very addictive, so it's easy to go overboard playing them. Much like eating a whole cake in one sitting, you're not going to be wanting to start up another one straight away. Especially if you're playing them after having not played any games for a couple of months.

Did 3-5 have the character advancement quests? I can't remember if they did; if they didn't, it was quite a neat thing to bring back from 2.

I'm probably a bit more forgiving because I didn't get to play it when I first tried to get it (wrong version came in the copy I had, which was the only copy in the store), so having to wait a decade or two can make things a bit more tolerable.

I was trying to remember, on importing characters in the various M&M games.... M&M 1-->2-->3-->4-->5 6 and later there were no more import features correct?

You can transfer characters from MM1 to MM2 and combine MM4 and MM5 to World of Xeen, there's no other transfer between the games.

ARGH!

I ran about killing the dragon on Emerald Isle in MM7.... only to have the final shot from the dragon KO my healer and so he missed out on the XP from that.

Don't worry, the XP your healer missed because of being unconscious was shared among your other party members.

I found a copy of the Might & Magic Trilogy in my home which is supposed to be MM3 thru MM5 with Swords of Xeen. Is there anything special with this edition?

P.S. - I have a spare MM6 copy that could find its way to a good home.

After some late spring cleaning, I found that I have an extra MM6 cloth map.

Which version of Xeen had the CD Audio that played little cutscenes and audio?

If you entered the Dwarf Mines, a short scene would play that would say, "Welcome to the Dwarf Mines". There were others for that version IIRC.

I keep getting an error (internal error, no number or anything) in MM7 now. At first it was only the occasional time I checked the inventory, and then it went away. Now it seems to be happening almost all the time I check the player's inventory, or skills, or even load a game and it's making it unplayable.

Is this a common issue, or would a simple reinstall fix things?

i think some version of modern Windows can cause errors, did you enable Windows XP compability?

Yes, I did. I changed it to some other ones, just in case, but I still got the error.

hm.

what error do you get? printscreen it if you cant write it down, i played MM7 several times and never had any errors (had it shutdown to desktop a couple of times due to sound error) so i am kinda curious.

but if you are really unlucky you could have a newer version of that processor bug MM6 had with certain processors.
