Full disclosure: I never played TLoU 1 (or 2). Even for the first game I found all those deeep/mature/GotGeneration/10/10 ratings to be a turn-off. I only played the Uncharted series.

You didn't miss out on much

I've playing this thing for a while. As a game is gud IMO, better than the original in terms of gameplay and such. It's still a atmospheric walking simulator about surviving plant zombies, mind this if you want to try these games. Now, the story... you have an incredibly big problem when mere flashbacks (About Joel an Ellie in the time period of the first game) are way more appealing than the new story the game wants to tell. Simply put: This game needs Joel, because this story is about him and the Ellen page clone. And they literally thrown him in to the nearest bin.

At least in anime the girls don't have receding hairlines.

I think a big part of the frustration is the fact that the developers wanted to hide Abby until the end, and only the leaks prevented that, and even then the leaks were seen by a small minority of the playerbase.

It's the feeling of insincerity, not even mentioning the cooked trailer with Joel, which hurts the most. Why did Naughty dog not present Abby in any of the trailers? They could have pulled it off without spoiling she will be killing Joel.

My answer is - because they knew what the effect would be. People would run and cancel preorders at the news they won't be playing with the same main characters.

Nice to see the opinion of someone who played the game. Are the cutscenes skippable at least?

If you think this won't make up for its development costs, you are sadly mistaken. It will turn profit.

It might, but it will probably disappoint. Remember this is a PS4 exclusive, they are supposed to be universally liked and sell 10s of millions of copies, not get a 3.4 user score on Metacritic and merely sell a few million.

Yeah, that's not how the destruction of these big IPs works. It's gonna be like Star Wars - TLJ did make 1.3 billion. That's a huge amount of money and huge profit for Disney.

Problem is it's way less than 2.1 billion for Force Awakens. And it also caused the third film to flop even more, with "mere" 1.1 billion. This is not what's expected from successful trilogies. Series like LotR or Harry Potter were either more or equally successful with each subsequent sequel.

So my humble tip is this: TLoU1 sold 20 million (as did Uncharted 4). The second game will sell maybe 13 million? And if they make a third game it'll have a hard time reaching 10 million. And this is all the most optimistic prediction for ND I could manage.

And just like that Naughty Dog will decline from a studio that was regularly selling 20 million to someone selling half that, if lucky. From the top of the world into the crowded average.
Uncharted 4 and the Chloe's spin-off were woke already, as well the TLoU dlc. You are underestimating Sony's audience.

Nobody is saying you can't kill off characters, moron, or that everything has to be happy sunshine diabetes land.

They killed off Joel in the most ludicrously disrespectful way possible, in a manner that borders on torture porn. And then forced you to play as the killer for the majority of the game, and they get off SCOT FREE at the end.

Yes, it's pretty clear with Joel's death that every sort of internal logic was twisted in order to fit what the writer "just wanted to happen" in order to move the plot in the way he desired. This is pretty lame, bad writing 101.

There's nothing glorious about being murdered. And I still yet have to see all this "torture porn" people are talking about.

I shouldn’t have gone poking around the rest of that sub. There’s still far too many idiots claiming it’s a masterpiece and everyone who hates it are just bigots.

Protip: the biggest issue of this game's writing is being a sequel to the first TLoU.

Fail, Joel attacked the dad in TLOU1 until he saw his kid.

Even got video proof.

I'm pretty sure the bone of contention is Abby knowing that Joel is the "Joel" he's looking for based on nothing but a first name and a general location, not that a man living in a zombie apocalypse would agree to travel to safehouses.

I think everybody is dancing a bit around the elephant in the room because they’re afraid to prove the SJWs right: playing Abby is not only terrible because of what she did (murdering the beloved main character of the first game), but also because of what she is: a disgusting she-hulk. Seriously, every sane person should be reviled by the idea of having to play as that abomination. I’m not saying you have to identify strongly with the character you are playing in a game, but some basic connection must be there. I simply don’t care for a game where I play as that disgusting thing, period.

(For the record, I would never waste time or money on dreck such as The Last of Us anyway)

If someone told me they were Joel I'd assume they were the Joel I was looking for because that's a stupid name that only 5 people in the world have, and 4 of them died in the apocalypse
