OK. Are you sure the numbers in your char screen are even supposed to update, though? It could be a behind-the-scenes thing.
Yeah, do you ever roll a 1? Which shouldn't happen when under luck.

I think you guys are right (I would brofist you if I could)! I just spent about 10 minutes beating on some lizardmen and I didn't get a single 1 over the course of a hundred or so attacks (I did get a whole lot of 20s, though) - so I guess the Luck bonuses might indeed be factored into the rolls instead of explicitly being displayed on the character screen. Thanks for the idea! :)

Dunno if I had a mod installed? Armor restrictions still were present iirc. However, becoming lvl12 fighter is for 5 points in sword (another full attack) and 3 in bows, then I dual and lose all those points? I cannot believe this.

Heh, the funny thing is that your fighter/druid doesn't forget how to use swords and bows, he just refuses to touch them.

This frenchie friend needs to get a clue and go check which resolutions are the most common. "Other" will win by a large margin...

Well, 1280x800 seems to be widely considered the ideal resolution for 16:10 Infinity Engine gameplay these days.

I loved 1920x1080 with a bigger font mod. It's not perfect but it looks great to me.

Im attempting to play this game again. The IE game discussion around project eternity got me in the mood. Last time I played it about half way and just got tired of all the repetitive combat. I love the first few areas exploring around the cities and such....we will see how far I get this time.

How do you all like to set your autopause options? If you set the pause at the end of round it almost feels turn based. I just wish I could customize it more because I like to see to hit rolls and damage. With how it works you have to scroll up the messages.

Also using a bard this time...don't usually

My IE history is spotty for sure. I played BG on release HARDCORE, almost beating it. I still distinctly remember ripping up all those gnolls, putting Minsc in the chokes and just blasting away with arrows. Loved PST so much it hurt. Didn't play BG2 for years and still haven't beaten it. Skipped IWD 1/2.

Recently went back to IWD after all the PE hubbub, and -- like others, I have no clue why, but this game is beautiful. So much fun to make up your own party and just let it rip. I've actually deleted a couple of party members after starting, because I wanted to mix up the vibe a bit. I'm about to boot it again and delete my lvl 3 cleric in favour of a lvl 1 druid, lol...

Prob just the nostalgia factor, but I am having a blast with these games.

Auto-pause when spell-cast is a good way to make sure your mages don't stand around doing nothing afterwards.
I think you can see die rolls by clicking an option in the feedback menu.
Bards are great in IWD games, you can extra content/dialogue options for quests and some pretty neat bard-only loot. If you want to have the best sword in either game be sure to also have a paladin (or at least 1 lvl of paladin in IWD2)

I'm currently replaying IWD 2 and this time I think I might finally finish it. Re-visiting it, I remember what I liked and didn't like about it: the encounter design is better than in any other IE game because of Sawyer I guess (this bears well for PE), but the story makes no fucking sense once you start chapter 3. This really made me rage back in the day because I actually liked a lot the way IWD did story in a dungeon-crawler bassed game. You could mostly ignore it if you didn't care for it (and it seems most people did, judging by the number of 'IWD had no story' posts), but if you paid attention to the lore in the dungeons and probe all the characters you could find some pretty nice stuff that wasn't force-fed /nfodumped on you like in the Baldur's Gates, for example: how the whole war between the elves and the dwarves that were once bros and, as such, the destruction of the Seldarine Hand and Dorn's Deep was brought about by a single drow, Nym. I also really liked the priest's arc: how he doesn't understand Jerrod's, the hero of his faith, sacrifice and though it cowaardice in the beginning and ends up getting it in the end and repeating it, echoing it.
Leaving that story-fag diversion aside, I recently found out Sawyer had to write IWD2 story over a week-end so now I'm willing to give him so slack and see it through.

I'm playing IWD and currently on chapter 2. Being a D&D Magoo, the game is set on normal difficulty with a very haphazardly created band of narcoleptic party members shut out of any dual class or cool opportunities afforded by the ruleset. But they are my creations to which I even provided some rote backstory for, to the point of spending 1100 credits each time resurrecting that sorry excuse of a fighter thief dwarf who croaks every second step. The combat becomes much breezier and manageable at around level three or so it seems. I am having fun.

I like the combat and encounters in IWD more than TOEE, so that's saying something.

I have never finished ID II, so I'm going to play it during next weeks. Can you recommend me some quality mods? I've seen that there is tweak mod, with many nice addictions, and even more terrible changes. And some mod that changes starting area, to make int more interesting. Are there some other mods worth installing?
In before uninstall.mod.

Add the info to the mod thread and I'll try to update that topic this weekend. No promises though.

I like the auto-pause when a spell is cast good suggestion.

You get extra content\dialog for bards? How does that work? Do I need to have my bard selected when talking with people? I usually use my paladin due to his high charisma.

I only played IWII for if I finish with IWI I will have to give IWII a go. Seems people are very mixed on which game they feel is better.

Exactly, in the Infinity Engine games the selected party member does the talking (unless the dialogue is initiated by the NPC, in which case the approached party member does the dialogue). It is especially important to know this in Icewind Dale II, because there are certain quests you can only complete with a character of a sufficiently high attribute, which of course might not be your leading party member.

This does look pretty nice, but leaves black bands on the sides. Any ways to remedy that?

Just a small correction, but IMHO this isn't true for all IE games, but only for the Icewind Dale Series. In Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 it will always be your main character who does the talking, no matter who you select as party leader. I'm not entirely sure about Planescape Torment right now but I think it's the same.
