Figures. I assumed it was a problem on my end and wasted time trying to reboot the router.

Got a glory booster in a PvP chest. Used it, played for 1 hour straight. Won every match. Was top neutralizer/capper in all of them. Got a decent amount of kills. Still didn't get me from renown rank 5 to 6. If there are 80 ranks, it'll take bloody ages to hit the cap :<

Sword+pistol/dual dagger seems to work the best for me in sPVP. You can't beat heartseeker for bursting shit down on a crit build and The #2 skill on sword+pistol is teh sex. It's a shadowwalk that marks the ground when you start it. Use it to close and kill people. But if you're chased, you can use it to mark the ground, run for a bit, then reactivate it to warp back. 9 times in 10, whoever were chasing after you are going "WTF!? Where'd he go!?" and you get a free pass. the last 10% of the time you warp into another enemy :D

Yay cross-server sPVP. I got randomly matched up with Berekan even though he plays on the spanish server and stabbed him with my knives. Then we ended up on the same team next round. Lo and behold, 2 dudes on the other team were from No Mutants Allowed's guild. The pvp fights in the battlegrounds are way better than the shit you get in WvW. I don't see myself going back to the AoE clusterfucks again anytime soon. It's especially good when you get teammate that have the faintest clue and actually defend the points you've captured. I've had so many easy wins because th eother team kept leaving points the second they capped them and I could just waltz right in and neutralize.

Open your char panel (H), go to the PvP tab, click "Go to Heart of the Mists", complete a small tutorial, go in and queue up by either picking a server or clicking Play Now. That's pretty much it. After that you'll generally stick to the same group of players except be randomly shuffled, sort of like in FPS matches where you can't pick your team. Unless you go Tournament mode I guess, didn't try that yet.

It's a "hold the points" game. There are three points in every map that give your team points as long as you control them, the first team to get to 500 points wins. You also get minor points for your team for killing an enemy (iirc) and there's some different mechanics in every map. In one of them there are two neutral NPC's that give 25 points and a global buff for your team, another one has an underwater point where the sharks usually get more frags than any other player, in another you can rush the enemy base and kill the enemy lord for 150 points... etc

All EU and all US servers also share PvP instances. So if you have a buddy in the same region, you can agree on a server # from the browser if you wanna play together. If you end up on the same team and have a strange urge to stab your buddy in the back, I'm told you can hit B to open the scoreboard and there should be an option to switch teams there.

Bahamut -- PvP is quite fun. If you use Play Now, you'll get queued up with other people with the same PvP xp as you, so they'll generally be as noobish as you are. If you want an easy time winning your first few dozen matches, just remember never to get into a big fight unless you have 2+ points under your control. Killing a player is worth 5 points. Neutralizing an enemy point (takes about 5 seconds) is worth 10. Taking a neutral point (10-15 seconds) is also worth 10 points and accumulates a lot of victory points over time. An average biggish fight with 2-3 participants from either team will at least take a minute or two. If the enemy holds two points while this goes on, they'll get a 60-or-so point lead even if you kill them in the fight.

On the other hand, you can exploit that many low-glory players charge headlessly into fights. If you can secure 2 (or even 3) points, try to get a big brawl started somewhere and make it last as long as possible. Last game I had we managed to secure all 3 points early and then started a huge free-for-all near the mid control point. Enemies who died kept coming back to help their team mid instead of flipping the other 2 points, so by the time the big brawl dissipated we were ahead 400 to 50.

AB sure hasn't changed...

Is it entirely capture point stuff or are there eventually maps with other objectives?

Noticed something neat while messing about with weapon loadouts on my thief. If you leave one hand empty in a weapon set, it'll use whatever you have equipped in that hand in the other set. So for instance, I can have mainhand dagger/offhand dagger in set 1 and main hand pistol/offhand none in set 2. That'll make set 2 pistol/dagger. If you're running a sigil that gains stacks such as sigil of bloodlust, it'll gain stacks in both weapon sets instead of just one.

Guys, would I need to buy a Master's Training Tome before I can use a Grand Master's Training Tome, or can I just skip the middle stage, any idea?

Edit: Nope.

well I've barely played after hitting 80.

It's a fun game but the fun things only lasts a few times over. If you've done a dungeon once (story mode) you won't miss anything by not playing some other version (exploration). same goes for WvWvW - it's always 1 server zergig a location and another defending, while the third is doing something else. all wvwvw matches are the same.

Definitely worth the initial cost and I got my money's worth and all that, but I'm glad there's no monthly fee.

"higher tiers" of pve, pvp and crafting doesn't matter, because gear doesn't matter. it's a cute idea but it kills the incentive to play - unless you're all about dressing up and RP.

Same, except I drop my characters around level 35-40. I really see little point in continuing on in PvE once you've gotten all your skills and can fully play a class. Outside of a handful of traits that slightly tweak a build I see no reason to grind 40 more levels just to get better equipment. If I wanted an equipment grind game I'd play one with good itemization.

I thought the other Dungeon modes were supposed to be noticeably more challenging that the Story mode, which is supposed to be for the casual player to be able to finish once and see the story.

I like the PVE content so it seems like there's enough unique areas to play one or two alts fully through just to explore. I've been avoiding talking to the Scouts so actually a lot of quests are unmarked on the world map for me, and some areas. Now if there were a monthly fee I'm not sure the gameplay is unique enough to justify paying money to play an alt or two JUST through PVE. Good thing there isn't.

However I'll probably spend a lot of time playing structured PVP, both randoms and tourneys. I think a lot of the meat in gameplay hours will be here.

So far, my thief has avoided all the areas my guardian 100%'ed and picked a different order so all the content is newish. Once it hits 80 hower, I don't see myself doing much PvE except possibly clearing charr/human areas on an engineer long enough to get the vigil initiatiopn achievement. (Incidentially, then I'll have been through all the PvE areas once). I'm really enjoying sPVP though so that'll keep the game alive for me for a while yet.

I just hope that once they iron out all the remaining bugs, they'll get working on new content. It's a fun game, and we're even having fun in WvW as a small group going around and capping tents and doing various opportunistic shit, but they really need to add something big for guilds to do together like, a proper casual timesink. Suppose sPvP and WvW fill that role for the most part though, and the dungeons are challenging enough (at least Catacombs on Story mode, holy shit, didn't expect that much dying on a bunch of trashmob pulls, bosses are WAY easier than some trash pulls seem to be) but hm, needs more perhaps.

Also, dungeon gear prices need to drop by a lot. I get that the "few great men" should get the really good gear, but the "goodness" shouldn't be coming from their willingness to rerun same dungeon 20 times to get one piece.

made (or tried) ascalionian catacombs yesterday, i really dont remember last time i was so buttfucked, anyone finding GW2 instances ridicolously difficult? Heroics at wow are laughable comparing to this

Yeah, we got buttfucked rather hard too, though we got 2 bosses down (stopped there as we started way too late in the evening). Holy shit those trash pulls, what the fuck. Eventually I figured kill orders though, like "Nuke the rangers immediately" etc. Rather enjoyed it, though - but chest rewards so far were completely not worth it.

Edit: WoW heroics are laughable. Unless you mean raids, which are only laughable part the time.

They didn't run out - they stopped selling them. Servers are full at the moment, they're going to put up more before they do, I understood.
