Seriously im enjoying the game but you sound like the fanboys in the D3 thread.

Ok that was harsh but you are getting close.

Name another game where character races make a big difference.

Horrible. On so many levels
If I were a fanboy i would be gushing with positive comments about the game. And reply to this thread every day. But I just like making fun.

I like how the majority of my rebuttals are not addressed lol
As far as reading carefully when you guys wrote ... Lol i don't because actually I like to skim around and just make fun of stupid comments and that's pretty much all I really don't care about
Grandmaster level irony here

You're joking, right? There are such great traits as "+50% damage while downed". The number of crappy traits in the game is amazing. If you need to "constantly tweak" your build, it's a good sign your build was designed by an idiot in the first place.

FWIW, Signet of Malice/Infiltrators/Signet of agility/roll for initiative + dual daggers build is what I'm running atm. Just spamming Death Blossom because it is overpowered and counts as an evade. Basically I get 6-7 uses of DB in a row, hitting up to 15 applications of the imba bleed at a time while buffed by as much as 15 might at a time, and since each DB evades I effectively get 11-12 dodges and 2 shadowsteps in a row before enemies can even think about damaging me. For shits and giggles I'll even have a 60% crit rate. Traits are Signet of Power and Thrill of the Crime because it's pretty damn obvious those are the only useful ones. It's almost funny to see me doing story missions where I solo groups of enemies 8-10 levels above me (due to some oversight normal damage gets reduced to nothing vs higher levels but bleed damage works fine).

I'm sure there are other builds I might use once the glass cannon approach fails, but that isn't the point. The point is that within a build concept the useful skill choices are painfully obvious and there is no reason to deviate from them.

What you found sounds like a good farming build for PvE. Shortbow is just as good for that if not better, because you don't put yourself in physical range of enemies while laying down condition damage and AOE. You're getting to get stomped in harder dungeons and most PvP related situations with that build unless you trait for all initiative regen so you can keep LDB up.

No shit, I didn't say it was the be all and end all of builds. I said that within a build type there was no appreciable variation, there is only one way to do that build. Did do a dungeon and managed to go toe to toe with the bosses while still being underleveled though. Dungeons are a fucking travesty, 10 mins of smashing an NPC with 100k health while dodging red circles. It even managed to retcon major lore from GW1, because apparently GW2 devs hated that game. Don't think I'll be doing any more of them.

Shortbows are shit. Barely half the damage, no evade capability, less AoE area. Death Blossom is an evasion move, shit doesn't hit you while using it.

Let's see how shitty Mesmer traits are... http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_mesmer_traits :

Listing traits that I think are not as good:

Chaos
- Chaotic Revival, Retaliatory Demise, and Descent into Madness are too situational, especially the latter.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. For the rest, I see utility in either PVE, WVW, or PVP, sometimes in more than one. Care to reveal what traits I missed that are very shitty?

What the fuck am I reading? SB autoattack is AoE/cripple, 2 is AoE small/AoE large depending if you detonate cluster before it hits, 3 is an evade, 4 is an AoE, 5 is an evade. Perfect for tagging every mob in an event while staying the fuck away from them. Are you sure you're playing the game?

Not sure if they're low damage, though I would imagine so, as melee is higher damage than range on purpose here.

The more he posts, the more I am convinced Average Manatee is a grade A retard. Shortbow has cripple, evade and good AoE damage. Soon as there are 2+ targets around, the bouncing trick arrows really shine. My rogue is running double dagger/shortbow in pve and double dagger/sword+gun in PvP.

Shortbow opens up with #2 detonated in midair for alpha damage, followed by trick arrows to whittle enemies down, then evade to build distance and cripple one, switch to daggers and heartseeker shit to death.

In PvP the shadowstep+stun on the 2+3 skills on sword+gun is more useful though. In PvP I use shadowstep and stun, then switch to daggers to rain basic attacks. Once the stun wears off I activate basilisk venom and start heartseeker once they're at around 50% hp. If things get hairy and I'm out of stealth options (heal skill, blinding powder, ¤5 skill on double dagger), I switch back to sword+gun and use shadowstep again to recall out to a safer distance.

I'm juggling between a crit build and a condition build with vastly different traits on the two. Condition works well in larger engagements since I can spread the bleeds, poisons and cripple around. But in most sPVP matches we only seem to be 4-5 people per side so crit build to burst down squishies is typically the way I go. I might try to work in a shortbow again at some point for infiltrators arrow shenanigans. But I'd really miss the stun from sword+gun.

also use shortbow on Thief. I have single target damage (dagger and pistol for now.. prob gonna end up ebing 2 daggers) and back row mob destruction with short bow.

What!? Have you tried it for some matter of time? Its easily one of the most integral weapons in the thief's arsenal. Blast finisher, projectile finisher AOE auto attack, poison field, extra dodge that adds cripple, and a target-able shadowstep. Sure the damage isn't as high as your melee weapons, but if you grab haste watch as groups of enemies melt before your eyes as they feebly try to catch you. Without it in PvP against any competent opponent I'd last 10 seconds, even less in group engagements in tournaments.

Somehow for dungeons getting as much aoe as possible (offensive and defensive) and mindleslly spamming it on top of the packs seems to be the fastest way...

I just can't give up the utility the shortbow brings but full melee sounds tempting. My problem is that dagger/dagger just ends up feeling too gimicky and reliant on stealth, which can be a problem if you're trying to cap points. It does pretty nuts burst damage with heartseeker though.

These are the two builds I'm running with my thief right now.

My pistol/dagger+shortbow venom sharing support build. You become an incredible asset to your team running this build through sharing venoms with your teammates, and applying buffing/stealing boons through steal. You can even share your venoms with your thief's guild, making you a powerful duelist for capping points guarded by one person. Depends on your team composition, but the utility of this build is hard to deny.

My other is sword/pistol+shortbow executioner roamer build. This build is so much fun to play because the sheer mobility and power you have. Combined with the shortbow's dodges/shadowsteps, the extra initiative boosts, vigor recovery, another full endurance bar, and shadowsteps with condition remover you can enjoy low kill priority or have the opponent's waste a lot of time trying to kill you. You job here should be roaming the map back capping points and taking out/slowing down reinforcements when you're teams fighting over a point. In team fights you act as the finisher, exploding people who go below 50 percent with pistol whip.

How is skill balance in this game.

I remember in GW1 using henchies (not heroes) to clear the thunderhead keep mission, with no skills on my bar (just for shits n giggles to piss of someone that said the mission was broken and henchies were shit).

I only say this as what skills you took in PVE was always pretty irrelevant outside of solo farming, but coming up with a build and using the skills properly in PVP was the shit!

From my personal experience, skill/weapon skill selection is reasonably varied and your deck will always have a few viable builds. Playing a thief, I get the choice between passive (triggerable) signets and various tricks like caltrops, smoke clouds, vanishes, traps and poisons - most stuff working pretty well depending on what you want to do with it. Perhaps not every class is having the same situation but at least from what I've seen so far, there's a lot of viable skill pools and their usage in various situations.

That's a fancy way to say that you take 2x as long as me to kill enemies in PvE, which means it is a bad build. Maybe you don't understand how to play games, but fancy != effective.

It's sad that bad players caused most of the truly difficult missions to be nerfed. THK used to be ball-bustingly hard.

Bros, I stumbled upon a Heart quest the other day. I had to run up to shiny objects and press the F button. Then after it was over I got 49 copper. It was fucking dope.

If you press the ½ button you switch between 2 weapon sets. I realize most people aren't :retarded: enough to need this pointed out to them, but you seem like an exception. Shortbows deals AoE damage which means it will have a higher DPS than melee if you can hit a clustered group. It's someting you open with to whittle down enemies before they get to you without taking damage yourself and something you switch to so you can kite when your health gets low. Remember when some whiny cuntface were all "BAWWWWW" ing about how his elementalist couldn't handle mobs at his level +2-3? Yeah, that's because the fucker didn't know how to kite properly. I guess the only way you get past skill challenges is by standing at the marker going "/map PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME GET SKIL POINT! I DIED 80 TIMES!" until someone takes pity on you.

...You know what. Fuck this. Don't bother responding to this post. I'm just going to skip past your posts in the future like I do with Liberals inanity or blacks sad attempts at being edgy. You've clearly demonstrated beyond any shadow of doubt you've no fucking clue how games in the genre work and a complete and utter unwillingness to learn. Goddamn 2012 newfags.

Derp. If daggers takes nearly half the time to kill a mob of a shortbow + daggers, shortbows are useless wastes of time. I think dropping lvl 38 enemies in about 10-15s when I was lvl 29 should attest to that, if you have magical shortbow combos that can do the same then provide evidence of them (just for reference, we're talking 1.1k-1.5k AoE bleed damage for each attack, ontop of direct damage). But in the meantime, L2P. Only reason to use a shortbow in non-zerg PvE is if you are bad at dodging.

Remember when some whiny cuntface were all "BAWWWWW" ing about how his elementalist couldn't handle mobs at his level +2-3? Yeah, that's because the fucker didn't know how to kite properly. Good job on, once again, taking this out of context. I was owning the mobs until MMOSHIT respawns decided that enemies that were dead should suddenly appear 2 feet behind me and instakill me. The fact that you continually try to bring this up only speaks to your own incapability to form a coherent argument, instead simply resorting to an incoherent rage.

Good riddance. Had enough of your noobish rants in an attempt to pretend you are great at this game when in reality you have no idea how to play in an efficient or effective manner. You are a textbook example of what is wrong with MMO players: Pick a random build you think is cool, because the game is easy it works assuming you are high enough level and that leads you to assume you are a total pro at the game. Dogshit like you would be stuck in the random arenas back in GW1, along with all of the other MMO rejects.
