We must defend the DRM to own Empress!

RIP Unreal engine modding
It was dead years ago. It is one of the many reasons i still stuck to unity even though performance is atrocious.
More interesting is paradox switching to unreal since mods sustain their game longevity.

Maybe their point was that empress does it specifically to harm companies, while they do it to allow people to try games and decide by themselves whether to support the developer. Or maybe it is just clown world as usual, who knows?

Denuvo by Irdeto now registered as authorised Nintendo Switch™ middleware

Game developers and publishers can now access the video game protection software in the middleware section of the Nintendo Developers Portal.

AMSTERDAM – August 23, 2023 – Denuvo by Irdeto, the global leader in providing security solutions for video games on desktop, console, and mobile platforms, is pleased to announce its protection technologies are now available on the Nintendo Developer Portal (NDP) as authorised Nintendo Switch middleware.
The Nintendo Developer Portal offers documentation, tools and other useful materials for the development of software for Nintendo consoles. Denuvo is the first security partner added to the portal, where developers are now able to access the Nintendo Switch Emulator Protection, a revolutionary technology to protect games launching on Nintendo Switch from piracy.
Even if a game is protected against piracy on its PC version, the version released on Nintendo Switch can be emulated from day one and played on PC, therefore bypassing the strong protections offered on the PC version. This can happen with any of the numerous games available on Nintendo Switch.
By blocking unauthorized emulations on PC, studios are able to increase their revenue during the game launch window, which is the most important period for monetization. The Nintendo Switch Emulator Protection will ensure that anyone wishing to play the game has to buy a legitimate copy.
As with all other Denuvo solutions, the technology integrates seamlessly into the build toolchain with no impact on the gaming experience. It then allows for the insertion of checks into the code, which blocks gameplay on emulators.
“As gamers, we know first-hand how piracy negatively affects the gaming industry. We’re thrilled to be part of the Nintendo Developers Portal, so that we can provide the latest technologies to help fight this issue for Nintendo Switch players and developers,” said Doug Lowther, CEO of Irdeto. “We witness an increasing need to protect against emulation on PC from game launch, our solution is a must have for publishers to monetize the games fairly on this platform and also not impact PC game sales.”
Denuvo is at the forefront of game security with over 2 billion unique game installs protected across all platforms, and over 1,000 games secured. For more information on Denuvo and video game protection offering, please visit https://irdeto.com/denuvo/nintendo-switch-emulator-protection/.

Switch games already run like shit, imagine Tears of the Kingdom with Denuvo - sub 15fps. Glorious

Maybe they're thinking ahead and already considering the hardware refresh that's hitting next year.

This will mostly be used for any multiplatform switch/switch 2 games so you don't have the option to bypass denuvo on pc releases anymore.
First party games won't use it since a pirate has no other option.

Fifa 23 has just been cracked. Obviously not a game for the Codex but it is still huge news as the series has been notoriously difficult to crack in the last years. I think the last actual release was Fifa 18 but I could be wrong. Hopefully this is a sign that progress is being made with Denuvo and we can expect faster cracks in the future

IIRC fifa 23 had anticheat on top of Denuvo. They removed a ton of leagues from 22, which already had a shit ton of NTs removed as well.

What was the main issue with denuvo again? Millions of triggers you have to find and manually remove from the code so most crackers just make a local emulator instead?
I wonder if you can use AI to sort of predict where the triggers would be and then remove them, or just make it search for patterns and remove them.

I don't know if that reasoning makes much sense. Nintendo is very aggressively against emulators and a lot of people play exclusive Switch games on the PC without owning a Switch.

I think they'll use as much DRM as they can on first party titles.

Denuvo Unreal Engine Protection and Integrity Verification features deliver the next level of game security.

Like all Denuvo products, this first-of-its-kind solution is easy to integrate into the game on a binary level, effectively thwarting data mining attempts and creating formidable barriers against cheat creators, pirates and fraudsters. It shields Unreal Engine game data files against decryption, blocks the use of in-game debug consoles, and conceals entry points to deter game modification.
RIP Unreal engine modding (not that it was a thing in the first place)
Not only modding. If files are protected against encryption, console is disabled and code is protected against injections - forget about game preservation or solving compatibility issues.

The reason why GOG can sell older games at all - is that part of engine is replaced (System Packs, DirectX, OpenGL wrappers) or whole engine is reverse-engineered (ScummVM).

Lads... I just want my Vidya to be cracked, the fuck is this Kali Yuga shit.
You need to pay the toll to the trannie to get the crack.

In this pixelated world, codes and keys
Guarded fiercely like discord trannies
To crack the denuvo, a challenge unfolds
Yet to cross the gate, the toll bell tolls

The craziest part seems to be how very few people care about Mirage's DRM being added post-launch. Either people are pirating the launch version or simply aren't playing Mirage in the first place, at least on PC.

They added Denuvo after reviews hit, not sure if they added it after release.

I think the vast majority of gamers dont care about DRM. As long as the game launches and runs okayish they wont pay attention to anything else. I would say even the majority of people who pirate games have no idea what Denuvo is. Hell I read the crackwatch subreddit sometimes to check on new releases and there are always tons of comments asking others what is Denuvo and why it is bad.

Plus Ubisoft always uses Denuvo and I saw a couple of reviewers saying that the game always had Denuvo and the patch only updated the EULA. I also found a couple articles from august saying the game would have DRM.
