That leaves me fucking speechless. How could the company release the game at a shitty locked resolution when it took a regular player less than 30 minutes to get it running 2048x1440 by modding the shipped files? Just wow.

Unless the game runs so absolutely horribly that it becomes unplayable at higher resolutions I don't understand this at all.

They claimed they had no experience with PC development so maybe they only got an ancient laptop to test it on where it ran like shit.

Or someone couldn't stand the fact that the PC version looked better than on consoles.

Either way it's really sad.

Maybe then they will patch the game and we'll have a decent port... or not, whaterver, mods will fix it.

Now just 5 more hours until Steam let's me play...

Yeah, came here to say this. I don't know if to be somewhat happy or to facepalm so fucking hard...
I mean, I knew people would eventually fix it but I thought it would likely take a few weeks or months.

Anyway, waiting for my Retail version that will apparently look like this:

No matter how little you think of their programming prowess, these people are not idiots. I doubt that the backlash caused by hardware requirements to run the game at high resolutions would be worse than what they'll get for making the game look like shit. They already sold all the copies they were going to sell to the console peasants. There must be something else in play here.

It must be something in the internal workings of the engine that prohibits simply increasing the resolution and framerate cap (a rather trivial thing usually), without some serious amount of work. We'll find out soon enough, if the mods start causing wonky behavior.

The problem with that quick mod though is that it also increased the size of the interface. That shit is waaaaay too large.

Also: idiots or incompetents, neither really excuses a bad port.

They've already made it look better.

It still boggles my mind that people are really that willing to pay for such a crappy port.

EDIT: made posted it earlier, whoops.

Apparently you can edit the amount of souls you have with simple cheat tools like cheat o'matic or poke.

Umm, yeah, you can do that with any game. New to PC?

Yeah, I would guess there's something like that. Dunno what resolution could do other than crappy scaling, but FPS changes could let something get out of whack with animations or AI scripts or w/e.

Either that, or management laid a very strong "don't waste time adding extra shit, just port things exactly". Jap underlings don't exactly show initiative in those situations.

Yes, the resolution part is really weird. I have never heard of something similar. Maybe it's something that scales badly with the number of pixels, but is essential for the game functioning properly? Maybe it's not essential, but hard to rip out or change? Although it would have to be REALLY, REALLY bad with the power available on the PC compared to the consoles. And it's not like they used some PS3 black magic, since it works just fine on xbox. I guess it must be something embarrassing (or secret) for them not to just say it outright (considering they've been upfront about the shittiness of the port).

EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PhyreEngine

It's a cross-platform engine. Colin McRae: Dirt was made on the same engine.

Maybe they are retarded. Fucking jap faggots! :x

So, just cheking this up is the game worth the try?

Also, what are the features of the multiplayer? (Will I miss too much if I pirate it?)
The online feature is very cool, and ensures massive butthurt.... but if cheating works, it will be very broken...

People could cheat their gear the the online before anyways. And even if you don't cheat, leveling up is optional, so you can be a total douche and fight lowbies with endgame gear and consumables by playing through without spending souls on your stats.

Stats are for chumps. Real men play lvl 1.

Seriously though, you can disconnect from online whenever you like. My guess is that there will be some method of kicking people soon (you can already disconnect them if you are technically minded).

And still be able to use that online, dumbfuck? Wow, it's like open battlenet!

Same was possible in console versions.
Oh, that makes it okay. After all, it's supposed to be the console experience.

It really just isn't a game that promotes cheating. And as Damned said, you can already rape newbs easily by invading at low levels with uber equipment.
