So how many Codexian bros are playing Bioware's newest cash-cow? I don't know shit about shit when it comes to MMOs (played WoW twice for a short time, once just after release and once after the release of WotLK, and found it boring as fuck on both occasions) but I got a chance to play some free TOR with a bunch of my bros so I thought; "ah, what the hell."

Initial impressions are: WoW and Mass Effect combined. Almost everything is like WoW except all quests have fully voiced dialogue.

I have some good bros who I'm playing the game with. Without them I wouldn't have kept playing for more than a minute. With them it's pretty fun.

The story-mode is pretty cool. It's like playing a single-player Bioware-RPG (if you're into some of those, I am) but your pals are in all the dialogues too. For me, this novelty is the base source of my fun right now. I sincerely doubt I will be paying for it when the time comes, but who knows?

Anyway, any Codexians playing it? What are your thoughts?

Fake Edit: Oh, and there are some choices and consequences actually. Aside from the light/darkside thing barring you from certain items, some major quests (like Flashpoints) set you down alternate paths, fighting different enemies and gaining different loot-drops, based on your choice of light/dark. Of course, you can run these things multiple times, but still. I'd put the C&C in the 'minor' department, but there is plenty of it. Have yet to see if it keeps on coming beyond level 22. Also, the light/dark thing mixed with the small amounts of C&C is pretty interesting in a no-save environment where your decisions are always final.

Played the beta up to Lv 16 with a Chriss Imperial Agent. I liked, but it's just too rough now, and the designers did an awfull job, as weapons, amours and cities are bland as hell. Still, I could think about playing it again after an expansion fix things up, or if it ever goes Free-2-Play.

As far as design goes, I think it looks better in both graphics (very little of that cartoonish shit) and design than WoW. You're definetely right that some of it's pretty fucking bland though. I'm on Belmorra now and that planet is to bland what fucking is to having sex.

I'm actually enough of a sw nerd to have considered this. I played Kotor through at least 3 times, not 7, but man give me a break, I'm trying hard. I'm sure you could be a lot of fun playing a sith Shepperd playthrough, but there'd be too much downtime. This game spells out scheme for money, this is utterly obvious. I have no extensive experience with mmos, but that's because I'm not a fucking subhuman scum. These games disgust me. It's not like I'm going to pretend I have very strict linear standards in my gaming habits, I'm not enough of a faggot ; I'm honestly saying that these games, all of them, are bad. I never managed to get addicted to them, I don't see the point.

Get the fuck out of here

Hi, I'm a Chiss Bounty Hunter and I'm addicted to the game. On the Shultin Tunnels server, anyone else here?

It's Bioware's best effort since Dragon Age Origins.
Currently a level 44 Sith Assassin and the game still doesn't suck. I've heard some less-good-things about endgame however. So I'll just take my sweet time leveling since I actually kind of enjoy it.
There are some bullshit bugs and annoying stuff though, but nothing that has kept me from enjoying it. Also the game is actually quite challenging at times. A few of the elite mobs in your class quest chain can be damn annoying. I died to a guy a hundred times before I remembered I had a slowing skill.

I've actually only seen a single MMO that does the one hero beating up a single big enemy aspect with honour and carries it through, and that's one of the reasons why I play Champions.

That game looks like one hell of a clusterfuck.

James Ohlen on the other side though...:smug:
Well, that's actually a very small clusterfuck.

Not multiple dozen characters obscuring each other with flashy animations as the boss is buried underneath them. Or an Ostriches + Poisoned Halberds duel on a private UO server.

Actually the game does throw multiple NPCs at you, even in boss fights.

My criticism though is that I don't need the game to fucking make me "feel" like a hero. "Heroic" is a quality you earn by playing well, not by being spoonfed. But whatever.

Well, I'd argue there's a difference between spoonfeeding it and providing the feeling correctly. A good example is the most recent new bossfight in Champions, which is a very long and challenging fight even on Normal unless you powergame, as it's designed to provide a challenge for small teams. But when I defeated it single-handedly on my first try, even though it took lots of work and was by no means an easy task, it made me feel like a kickass superhero saving the world against all odds. The important part I think is that it wasn't created in the EVERYTHING BUT ONE TRUE WAY IS VERBOTEN fashion, which in general is the strength of CO if you ask me.

And like I've said elsewhere, I think the illusion of challenge does far more than it's given credit for, while instant-curbstomp for doing things wrong is not a particularly good method in a game without save function of any kind (it works in games like Jagged Alliance 2, where you are solving a puzzle at your own leisure and alone).

And... Vaarna goes on ignore for spamming about CO for the last fucking time. Keep your narcissistic boasting about your favorite game and how good you are at it to yourself. Fucking twat.

Should be in character creation within an hour or so, anything in particular I need to know about the game ? I guess I'll go Republic since it seems like people want to make LS alts.

Shitstorm happening on /v/. Apparently people are being banned for trading itens too often, exploring high-level areas with low-level characters and even privately swearing.

Also, from what I heard the game has a serious problem with complete lack of end-game content. Of course this is no trouble for the Biodrones.

EA behaving like the Empire...codex should love it.
I especially like the "May the Force be with you" at the end. Very...ironic.

Over there.
I was seriously considering getting it after reading a little bit about it and being just plain bored, but this banhammer shit is fucked up. It's human nature to both try to break things, i.e. the economy, and try to go where common sense says you shouldn't, such as higher level areas. Bioware is making it clear that innovative use of the tools available and exploration are GODDAMNED UNACCEPTABLE, so fuck 'em.

This is what happens when you spend 95% (probably more) of your budget on voice-overs and marketing.
