Starship Troopers: Extermination - because previous FPS sucked and can't be re-released

Aw, shucks, another one based off the movie and not the book. Don't get me wrong, a proper squad-based FPS like this is a good concept and this looks like it could be pretty good, but we haven't gotten a game with proper power armor like the book since Terra Nova. I like Terra Nova, but there's no denying it has a few issues in places.

I love the visual design and the cheesy nature of the movie, but I do think that it actually hinders video game adaptations of the setting since devs just lazily transpose aforementioned visual design and hope to cash in on the brand (not that different from the crappy film sequels to Verhoeven's movie, really) without putting too much thought into the actual gameplay content that those visuals should be served alongside with. Said visuals are just a great side dish for the movie fans, but they're not the main course when we're talking about a video game adaptation.

ST is a great setting

I always wanted an ST RTS, ever since I was a kid
Starcraft
Starcraft is completely different from SST. The plot of SST is about humans fighting off space bugs trying to exterminate us. The plot of SC is about a horny space cowboy chasing a space succubus while fighting the evil space emperor.

The brand isn't even successful because Sony drove it into the ground. I don't understand why anyone would want to cash in on a dead crappy brand.

The Roughnecks cartoon from 1998 is the only decent entry in the franchise short of the original book or the tabletop games. Video games should take inspiration from those, not the crappy movies.

I'm curious. Why is Sony suddenly approving these licensed games now? They don't have any new movies in the pipeline. To make things stranger, earlier this year they canceled their old license with Mongoose Publishing who then had to take down the tabletop game books from e-retail. Those books were full of lore and tactics and so forth that could've been recycled for a new edition, but nope!

I saw that game but this one is better I think

Sadly it's neither on Steam or GOG

Terran Ascendancy is one of my most fav games of all time, it was ***this much*** goood.

Anyway, I actually have the old Starship Troopers FPS... it was decisively meh. The best part was at the very start when you wake up next to a female pilot you fucked all night and IIRC you can see her ass while she lies face down on the bed. The actual gameplay was pretty weak. This honestly doesnt look any better.

It's definitely meh, but oddly enough I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Some of the larger-scale battles were fun. There weren't a lot of games back then that had that many enemies onscreen.

The book is one of those rare ones that still somehow remain popular in current year despite people barely reading anymore, that combined with companies obsession with greenlighting anything based off an existing property is apparently a gold mine. It seems lately like companies are loosening up licensing restrictions in regards to video games, and I guess the people behind this really saw the potential in a game based off the film. (apparently they've done tactical FPS before)
This all reminds me I need to see that anime based off the book, because that was apparently a pretty good adaptation.

12 players? Fucking lame, none of these games manage to replicate the battles from the movie.
Starship Troopers: Extermination communication channels are intended to be used by mature adults, to that end posts containing excessive profanity, obscenity, insults, personal attacks, accusations or abusive language will be edited or removed and can result in disciplinary action being taken.

Using asterisks (*) or other characters to get around the language filter is still considered profanity, as is using abbreviations that stand for profanity. Post titles and images are subject to the same restrictions as post content.

Racist, misogynistic, sexist and ableist language is strictly prohibited. Harassment, abuse and bullying will also not be tolerated. Any of this activity, including racial, religious or sexual slurs may result in immediate banning in both community spaces and within the game itself. We will not be tolerating any level of toxicity in our community spaces or within the game.
Ah yes, the mature adults who can't handle insults or swearing.

The problem with this IP is that stupid fake satire tone introduced by that braindead idiot Verhoven. You don’t satirize fascism by producing work indistinguishable from propaganda.

So IGN put out a preview and it does seem to be promising.

But keep in mind this is IGN, so y'know, grain of salt.

What's the point of making Starship Troopers games when EDF and Helldivers exist?
