This could be potentially interesting if behind it was a studio to whom RPG-gameplay and mechanics weren’t just a bunch of lazy stats and a perk-chart taped over the big picture.

M$ should have bought Elite Dangerous's company too. Get Braben (and Carmack?) to make Starfield with an updated Elite engine. Then get Bethesda to focus on making a space RPG full of content.

Why is this thread here and not in the "Space Game" subforum?
Inertia. As far as we know Starfield can be anything from a grand strategy game to gatcha shit, so until we learn what the gameplay is actually like it can stay here for the moment.

We already don't own anything. Physical game media is pretty much dead on PC.

But at least you can download and install and run your games offline. Even Steam allows that.

From the French ruling, Valve's position:
Valve's terms attempted to frame a sale as a 'subscription' to a product, but the court ruled that users were, in fact, purchasing licenses, enabling European law to come into play.

Which belies this good man's opinion, towards which steam will inevitably arrive:

They all are. Microsoft's starting off slow with their Gamepass program, Sony rolled out a PS5 version with no disc drive, Google tried going straight for the cloud with Stadia. Abandon ye all hope, for Robin Williams, bless him, called it ages ago:

We're in the belly of this monster, and the monster is writhing in its last pathetic death throes. In its easter, Steam then becomes Spotify.

Starfield is the first new universe in 25 years from Bethesda Game Studios, the award-winning creators of The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series. Set hundreds of years in our future, Starfield is an epic about hope, our shared humanity, and answering our greatest mystery. In this next generation role-playing game set amongst the stars, create any character you want and explore with unparalleled freedom. Starfield will be released November 11, 2022.

“I would like to invite you on an epic new musical journey I’ve been on for the past several years,” says Inon. “Today I can finally reveal that I am the composer for Starfield, Bethesda Game Studios’ first new IP in 25 years. So looking forward to sharing our unique, classical sci-fi direction for Starfield’s music. In the meantime, enjoy the teaser trailer featuring a glimpse of what’s to come!”

“My admiration and appreciation to the incomparable creative visionary Todd Howard, audio director extraordinaire Mark Lampert, and the entire BGS family, for their daring artistic ambition and the honor of entrusting me with scoring their next groundbreaking RPG experience.”

The first new original IP from Bethesda in 27 years (Arena was published in 1994). True creative minds.

I wonder if you'll be able to fly by auto-pilot to nearby areas of interest that appear on the space compass. Then if there could be a droid to shoot the space daedra the game may be completable while afk. How's that for streamlining?!

Still better story than The Outer Worlds.
