Eh, well, maybe his portalarium whatzit and the casino games made him enough of a profit to go with an honest to goodness PC game. Still, I remain skeptical. Last I checked, Farmville, etc., run just fine on PC.

And the goddamned viewing angle better be something other than tilt-view a la early Ultimas and Knights of the Chalice. Ultima, or it's spiritual successor is due for a third or first person incarnation that does not suck.

Because playtesting Ultima Forever cost me.... how much exactly?

Time?

I'm busting balls mostly, but it sounds like you're a big Ultima fan from that experience so it just sounds odd that you wouldn't go in on the KS even if it sounded good.

So, because I'm a Ultima fan, I must close on my eyes on the fact that Garriot's games (U8,U9, Tabula Rasa, Ultimate Collector) were utter failure since U7 ? Because I am an Ultima Fan I should be oblivious to the fact the man supposedly has enough money to fund it on his own ? I should also ignore his venture with Zynga ?

Because I'm an Ultima fan, I should kickstart/pre-order without thinking ?

You, my friend, are responsible for Aliens: Colonial Marines.

edit : and for time, yes, it costed me 30 minutes, I couldn't bring myself to play it after almost going into epiletic seizures every three minutes with the absurdities of that game.

He goes out of his way to make sure that by "PC" he means "anything with a keyboard and mouse attached to it" including Linux. That certainly doesn't rule out a browser-based game.

He also went on to say that Ultimate Collector was being developed to also be used as a framework for his Ultimate RPG. So, yeah.

What's the point of a browser-based game that isn't a Facebook game? And he said it won't be a social game.

It won't be browser-based.

Fargo's fairly wealthy, that's why he put his money where his mouth is and offered to pay up $100K out of his own pocket if needed, and doesn't take any wages out of Kickstarter funds. I don't know if Lord British plans to make a similar offer, and as far as I know he is richer than Fargo, but who knows...
.

Oh how generous of him, I am sure he will miss those 100k dollar.

Maybe because the Numenera and Wasteland 2 threads are longer than the cannot into wymyn threads.

On topic, I won't be backing this, regardeless of the pitch video and information. If the game turns out good I can always buy after release, but I have absolutely no faith in Lord British as a person.

:x Cavalier perspective is awesome.

Indeed. I really wished more games used that before they moved on to 3D. Then again, I really wished most games hadn't moved on to 3D, so...

The 3D craze of the late 90s and early 2000s was awful. One of my favourite series of all time Oddworld, was hit very hard buy it. When Munch's Oddysee went 3D it broke all the cool aspects the previous two games had. But I don't see mainstream walking away from 3D any time soon.

I said if the game looked/sounded good, not that you should blindly back the Kickstarter. As it is now, I seriously doubt I'd back it unless it was a real RPG and they had substantial work done already to prove what they're going for. If that's the case than I'd be willing to gamble at the minimum pledge.

I hear Aliens Colonial Marines stinks, but how's it relevant here? I honestly don't know anything about it besides that it's pretty bad.

Cavalier perspective is awesome on an SNES playing Final Fantasies 3-6. I'd settle for isometric in a compromise, but I still say that a good 3D 3rd/1st person Ultima could be made to make up for the clusterfuck that was Ultima 10.

Function over form. Isometric perspective is a terrible perspective because shit can easily get hidden and thereby it skews everything in an area to one corner of it. If you're going to go 3D then at least make the camera rotatable.

If this is anywhere near as good as Angry Birds was I might drop a few dollars to help his fund raiser...

I don't ever prefer first-person in my RPGs, if for any other reason than it often precludes having a party and skews towards real-time combat.

True, as soon as I posted I thought about Wizardry. Then again, though, Ultima has never been that type of game (other than dungeons through Ultima V), would be a very different feel. I do miss blobbers, though -- Grimrock was close but it wasn't turn-based. I guess we'll always have Grimoire...
