I regret not pledgeing for this game, I could have owned it for cheaper than the steam price, which is just a bit too high for me right now.
Since I bought a physical copy I have three Steam keys. I was wondering what I was going to do with the extras, so I'll just give you one (and Berlin when it's out).
Seriously? I will pledge myself to the religion of Sawyerism if you do that.

Wait a minute... Roguey giving free Steam keys for SR?

I am a 3rd worlder atheist bisexual male if it helps my case...

Also Steam pricing, the Dollar conversion rate is really steep for a poor third worlder like me. What about social justice?

Heroine's Quest sounds like something Roguey would make. Staying away from that.

Well, I'm starting to get hyped. When the Kickstarter began, I thought it sounded pretty neat; for the first nine months or so, I figured it would serve as a nice distraction while awaiting meatier efforts (PE et al.); I thought it looked pretty swank when they released the gameplay video; now that it's close to release, I'm leaning toward Game of the Space-time Continuum.

That bait-and-switch-flavored nonsense they pulled with DRM/expansions/the editor is a turd in the punch bowl, though. I don't care if it's likely they had no choice in the matter—they were disingenuous during the campaign.

More from the SA beta tester
Yes, I am sure they're in crunch mode. The programmer I am acquaintances with on their team is constantly on Steam listed as in-game in Shadowrun Returns. There weren't many bugs that I found in the beta test so I'm sure they're just polishing away. Should be a pretty smooth launch I think.
I'll be surprised and impressed if they actually have a relatively bug-free launch. All those cuts will be worth it if it's fun and polished.

If I go on vacation, I'm on vacation. It'd have to be a pretty shitty vacation for me to bother bringing computergames along.
Not for me, though. The most fun* I've had on New Year's Eve was when I was updating my (now defunct) website.
Three years in a row.

just optimistic, I think. look at the string of faltering KS funding games--it's obviously easy to do.

wait, though, what've they dicked around with on the editor?

I can't fully recall since I'm not sure where to look for the relevant official info (also too lazy), but I believe the DRM-free backer versions will be incompatible with the expansions, and won't be compatible with the editor, either. You'll need to have the Steam version (or something) in order to access them.

Yes, they were supposed to set up a website to support the editor but then they decided to use steam workshop instead.

It's more complicated and not as bad as you think.

Anything made in the editor with vanilla and Berlin expansion will be compatible with the DRM free version of the game.

Stuff made in the editor with assets from expansions or DLC after that will not be.

Probably, but there will likely be alternative ways of acquiring those assets as well.

Hopefully. If the game has enough following I don't think it'll take long for modders to start importing custom assets to the game too.

Having to resort to filesharing et al. at any juncture in order to continue using your promised DRM-free copy of the game in a DRM-free manner means it's gimped.

it's not like your drm free game becomes unusable if you don't download that one custom module that's using a flowerpot from a dlc you don't have.

The whole point of the game is the editor and the custom modules.
the latest word on their website i could find about the drm-free version says it contains the editor and as new vegas demonstrated new dlc coming out won't stop people from making modules compatible with vanilla or releasing mods in different versions with different dependencies.

Yeah it'll certainly not get old playing modules using the same limited assets over and over and over. The point is that the DRM-free version is an inferior pick.

He's full of shit as usual.

Nobody in their right mind would pay for his games what he used to charge before steam, except for the semi-autistic people that make their rounds on the spiderweb forums.
