The more technology that you put into yourself the less effective you become at magic stuff (cybertech lowers your Essence stat, which determines your maximum Magic stat, among other things). And if you want to hammer the fantasy aspect of your char home, you should roll a Shaman, which as a magical tradition has lorewise even stronger ties to nature (unless you play a city shaman, duh).

But aren't there some perks or other stuff that increase essence so much that you don't have to care about cybertech lowering it? And therefore not equipping a few cybertech wouldn't do you any good.

It's been some time since I've played but the answer should be "No, there are none such perks." Ulminati?

It could do without the obvious iPad interface, but I like what I've seen so far. Also, that one guy likes automatic fire way too much.

So did my eyes deceive me, or did the short character get full cover from the crate where a full size character would have got half cover?

A new update:

"We are incredibly excited and humbled by the great response to the First Look Video we released this morning. Thank you all so very much!
Even though our account system/website isn't online yet, the number of email requests asking for the abililty to upgrade Backer levels has convinced Producer Brian to volunteer to process each request by hand. (We love you, Brian!)
If you would like to upgrade, please send Brian your current Backer status and the level you would like to be upgraded to (you can check your current backer status on the Kickstarter website). He'll coordinate with you about making the approprite PayPal payment. His email address is brian@hbs-studios.com.
The team definitely has a "spring in their step" this morning with all the positive feedback and constructive comments. They're smiling from ear to ear while keeping their noses to the grindstone.
Thanks!
HBS"

Heh, I did exactly that two days ago, upgrade my pre-order. Nice to see they are receptive to this idea.

You can't raise your essence short of becoming a vampire. But in 3e (not sure about 4e), mages could take a geas that placed restrictions on when/how they could use magic to counteract a point of essence loss. It was pretty normal for mages to invest a point of essence in cyber eyes, smart link etc and take a geas like requiring the character to gesture or chant when casting to stay at 6 essence.

I never really liked it, since the point of essence was to reflect your ever-diminishing humanity as you replace flesh with steel. Letting people ignore the consequence of cyberware with gimmicks always sat ill with me

Not that big of a fan. When I think of turn based strategy, I think of Jagged Alliance 2 and X-Com 3. Those games had massive amounts of options and complexity at your disposal, and they felt visceral. This feels... like a game. It feels hollow just like the Omerta combat.

Also, spell cooldown can be ignored entirely by electing to take drain damage. No cooldowns! Suck on it, Excidium!

Thanks to both of you. I will check if those geas still exist in the 4th edition .

But wouldn't there be other way to ''counter'' the cyber appeal. Like magic enhancement occupying the slots of Cyber/Bio Enhancement. Ex : you can't wear That Wizard hat and those cyber eyes at the same time" ?

It's more of an RPG than Alpha Protolol, definitely.

Not a big fan lol
I just have watched the video for the second time.
Take fallout 1/2, enhance the combat and put it in an original great and deep universe (with an awesome background and mood) and you got SR.
Not telling it will be as good as fallout 1/2 but i really can't see how someone can expect more about a video demo of 15 min....
It just look awesome, not everything is perfect of course but all the important stuff ids there.
Just minblowing.

This looks extremely solid, at least if they get the balance right...

I dislike the low% chance for the summons to go crazy though. "Usually a nice option, rarely a total disaster" mechanics are kinda fraught. Maybe if you summon them from a ley line or something you can get them guaranteed safe for a few turns.
