EDIT: Do yourselves a favor by skipping my drivel and refer to sea's post on page 7 instead.

Okay, very initial impressions here. First thought that comes to mind: old-gen. Graphics engine is plain ugly so far. Many unimpressive textures, shadows are handled horribly, and the models and faces that I've seen at this point may be better, but pale in comparison to even something like RAGE.

Performance is a mixed bag so far. On one hand SLI utilization of my two 460's is reaching high levels, but framerates are plummeting fairly rapidly when viewing towns in the short distance. I need to back off the antialiasing a bit because I tried 8X to start off with, which my rig should be able to handle, but I'll settle for 4X if that brings the performance back up to where I like it. I also am now in the process of downloading the beta Forceware 285.79 drivers since they have a Skyrim SLI profile integrated, and I'm hoping some improved performance there.

Load times are short, intro was a bit disappointing.

That's it for now since I'm really tired but I'll hit it some more tomorrow.

gay ass Jaesun retardoed my initial impressions thread so might as well post here :smug:

To be honest, Skyrim is a lot better than I expected. Definitely one of the best adventure games I've played recently :smug:

Everyone should try this, even if just to experience the absolute piece of shit that they call the UI. It's hilariously bad, can't even be angry at it.

That's what a well done LP will show. So we don't ever have to waste a second on d/l or installing such a Majestic Piece of Shit™.

I have to add that should Andyman, that pre-dinner mayonnaise eating viking steed, ever release a review I'll read it even if Crispy and half a dozen people beat him to the punch.

Can you at least bind your weapons/spells/etc on 1-9?

For now, the most important tweak has to do with the fact that VSync is automatically on and can't be disabled from within the game. This not only reduces FPS, it also introduces mouse lag. To disable VSync in Skyrim, add iPresentInterval=0 to the bottom of the [Display] section of the Skyrim.ini file in the \Users\[Username]\My Documents\My Games\Skyrim directory.

I will be picking the game up this evening from my local GameStop at midnight,

That's probably the creepiest thing you ever wrote. I'm disappoint.

I'm playing it right now. People who say the menu/UI is bad are not exaggerating. It's a fucking travesty - by far the worst I've seen in a modern game. It reminds me of the UI from Might & Magic 3-5, but even worse.

I really hope someone mods this sooner than later, but there's probably only so much that can be done. :(

My short impressions after playing Skyrim (with 1.1 patch) for about an hour. Runs flawlessly with all the settings on ultra, animations aren't as terribad as expected, UI is extremely terribad, where is the head bobbing, water looks cool, dungeon design is lame, spiders are kewt and did I mention the UI is bad? World also seems to be quite big.

Just finished the dragon-heavy intro/tutorial and the supposedly new engine looks just like the old engine with crude dynamic lighting tacked on. Seeing this makes one really appreciate what Carmack wanted to do with Tech 5; Skyrim looks just marginally better than Oblivion. Animation is as unintentionally funny as ever, already seen a dog moonwalk over a bridge.
