[none of these characters make any sense with machine guns, not even Deadshot]
Add to that: none of these characters are known for flying, swinging, using jet packs, etc. This gameplay just has nothing to do with any of them.

Yeah the real story here is that it took Rocksteady seven and a half fucking years to get this game out.
I admit I'm biased and want to believe in Rocksteady, but let's not pretend in the post-Kickstarter era that evil publishers aren't the ones fucking everything up. This would not be the first time Warner Bros. pushed their noses in like a derailed freight train crashing through reinforced concrete and said something like "Let's do the thing that is money because money. Can we have RMT loot boxes? The kids love loot boxes. And jumping a lot! What about guns, make sure there are lots of loud guns. No this isn't stupid enough, you have to add in game billboards you click on to give us money."

I guess a bunch of important creative people left Rocksteady so maybe the leftovers are indeed the jerks here; still, that's not the first place I'm inclined to point fingers.
Erm, well while I admit that this is perhaps one of my many asshole qualities: I don’t have much pity for people who are willing to sell out, especially when it comes to luxury goods.

Must be nice to not have bills to pay!
I get that people have financial constraints/families, but for my part I would rather be poor and creatively fulfilled than middle-class and feeling like every second of my 60 hour work week was a slog. The latter would make me deeply unhappy and it would certainly negatively affect my familial relationships much more than the former. I recognize that I definitely have some confirmation bias here, as I only became relatively wealthy after deciding creative and ethical considerations were more important to me than money, but hey, what are you going to do?

Also let's be real: This is Rocksteady we're talking about, not Looking Glass. It's not as though they were ever a bastion for creative, innovative, or unique design. They made decent AAA Batman games, which is already a compromise of sorts. The people left are the sell-outs who were willing to sell-out on their already sold-out design philosophy.

A bit surprising however is that kinda everyone dislikes what they've shown so far. Capeshit consumers usually dont think very much about it, but the game has a negative image overall for now

Consumers tend to dislike poorly disguised cashgrabs after a very similar cashgrab self-immolated with it's steaming corpse still on display.

Unless this game is somehow the pinacle of high-octane multiplayer gaming, it's dead on arrival.

Yeah. It's too bad here. Last time I remember this happening with Warner Bros. was with Shadow of War, where they slathered on RMTs and gambling boxes - the developers even added a storekeeper orc who was a caricature of a greedy Jew*.
There was a huge outcry against all this, and not long after release all this shit was patched completely out, leaving an absolutely decent game.

Problem here is they can't just patch all that shit out this time since the problems are in the core gameplay. What lessons will they take from this?

*In hindsight, I wonder if Monolith Studios added this in on purpose as a silent protest against WB's anti-consumer practices ...

Yeah the real story here is that it took Rocksteady seven and a half fucking years to get this game out. I’m not trying to go full Rusty and say that any dev time longer than 18 months is due to lazy/incompetent devs, but that is a staggeringly long gestation, and suggests multiple very severe and very high-level fuck-ups. If this game underperforms (which seems likely) there is going to be a serious reckoning as to why that happened.
I highly doubt they were working on SS the whole time. Both Rocksteady and WBM are rumored to have had a bunch of cancelled games/rejected pitches, until they ended up with GK and SS. Off the top of my head some games rumored to have been in the works before getting cancelled:
-An Arkham Knight sequel starring Damian as Batman
-A WBM developed SS game
-A Superman game
-Arkham Origins 2

Fucking sad if true that all of those got rejected so WBD could force them to make Destiny clones.

How's a few months going to fix something that has been in development as a live service game for years?

Unless they're going to pivot to F2P with paid cosmetics which will at least get some people to try it out this thing is probably DOA.

Probably just additional bug fixing/testing.

Or perhaps they will utilize the character's skills more (i.e. the boomerangs, Harley's mallet, etc.) and make them more prominent instead of relying solely on guns. Hard to say at this point.

I’m too lazy to look and see what else is scheduled for May, but my suspicion is they decided it was too competitive a release window, and that August or September is a safer window to release.

Zelda releases May 12. The answer is pretty simple, they delayed Hogwarts on the older consoles to may, if they released suicide squad in the same window they would pitch two of their games against each other. Might as well push the game to september or later to avoid Diablo and FF16 too.

Please remove "Incline" tag from thread. :negative:
I might have to if they're going to do some sort of last minute hatchet job removing the loot shooter/GaaS elements. Say what you will about those but there's definitely an audience for them and I'm intrigued by Rocksteady's attempt. I'd much rather have the intended product than have them gut it at the final hour in a feeble attempt to 'respond to feedback' and please everyone.

Pulling a complete 180 this late into development never goes well and they will end up pleasing nobody if they do.

I'll compromise and change it to vaporware because if this is true, that would be 9 years since Arkham Knight. Realistically even if this came out in 2024 it would still be a last minute hatchet job. You can't gut the fundamentals of a game and turn it into something completely different in a year's time.

So unless they remove the macrotransactions, how the arsenal works, give all four characters movesets akin to that of Batman in the Arkham games and retool the maps to accomondate this in ONE YEAR, I don't see this working out.

They just needed the year to sack their entire staff and outsource the project to India. Roll the dice, see what comes back and ship it.

They don't need Batman movesets, they need movesets and utility that actually fits the damn charachters.

Which ain't going to happen.

That's what I meant. Give them moves in line with their characters and you're halfway there.

Yeah, I'd like to know whose genius decision it was to make everyone use guns / the same guns. Even if a bunch of stuff was reskinned for each character and some of them were more into melee or a certain type of weapon... maybe some specialized gear as well.

They probably made that decision because Destiny makes a lot of money.

If they REALLY wanted to use the guns they could've stolen from something like Warframe: all the frames in that game can use the same weapons but they all have their own four unique abilities, and when paired with their different stats some of them are better suited to certain roles than others. I mean sure you can equip your Rhino to deal damage at a long distance, but getting up close lets you get the most of your short-range abilities and massive health pool. They could tool someone like King Shark the same way.

https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/suicide-squad-game-kill-the-justice-league-ps5-xbox-pc-report/

During a recent discussion on the latest episode of the VGC Podcast, host Andy Robinson shared that he has heard about some positive buzz from Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League based on internal playtesting. Robinson said that compared to Gotham Knights, which is the latest DC project that WB Games released last year, the response to Suicide Squad has been optimistic from those that have been working on it.
