It was more like a year and a half with news of PC release emerging with the console re-release. It was scheduled for January 2015 for PC, but came out in April 2015

Timed exclusive might not be as long here though, current gen of Sony/MS consoles are coming to a close. PC has also emerged as the most popular gaming platform for the first time in nearly two decades. Publishers aren't ignoring that any more.

I can't understand why they "simulated" the game this much. Walking/running animations seems really slow and looting dead bodies after a long fight takes longer than fight itself...
If a game looks like a Hollywood movie nowadays every ADHD teenager will praise it as the greatest thing ever.

That's the general direction that every R* developed game since GTA 4 has had.

I've always suspected they postponed the game by almost a year mostly because they scrambled to revamp the MP. After all they announced it shortly after the shitstorm with microtransactions in EA games and in the industry in general broke out. I'm curious about RDR2 MP more than I was curious about the campaign.
This is wrong. GTA V's multiplayer released a month after GTA V, RDR2's multiplayer is just doing the same.

They are one of those rare AAA developers that has been around forever and stuck to their merits though. Last GTA game I was interested in, was Vice City, but I'd bet most people have played through at least one of them.

Not many devs willing to take 8 years between installments, Red Dead being in the former camp and RSG's only IP to break a thematic mold, is enough to keep most interested.

Rockstar is good at what they do, "open-world action sandbox" or whatever you want to call it at this point.

Not liking the look of the looting system so far. Arthur's animations look too long and overdone as opposed to Marston's quick "kneel and grab" animation. Yeah, it'll be fancy the first couple times but it's going to get old and annoying real fast.

R* knows what to do business. Just like with GTA V:

- release MP module a month later 'cause reviewers can't write about grindy nature of MP and microtransactions (not so micro in fact) if there is none. Players won't whine much 'cause most of them still will be hunting rabbits and looking at shrinking horse balls. MTX scandal avoided, unbiased 10/10 reviews guaranteed.

- don't announce PC version, make sure most ppl buy game on console: avoided potential lost sales due to piracy, grabbed sweet share of PC players (those who lack patience to wait).

- release PC version 1 year later to grab rest of PC market, also some dumb folks who will buy game for second time. Wait for modders to make RP servers and Twitch to make it new shiet cool kids do and to guarantee RDR2 wont drop from Steam top sellers.

To cite a classic: "Spice must flow".

There is also rather interesting rumor: In RDR2 is big chunk of territory present in RDR, even New Mexico - albeit blocked off.
R* put a lot effort to include it, so there is a question: it is for future DLC (so SP will be supported). Or even more bizzare one: remake of RDR on new engine for PC (in the works or abandoned during development).

GTA V was also done like this. It is only Los Santos which is one county within the city of San Andreas. GTA San Andreas had the entirety of San Andreas, GTA V only has Los Santos, but GTA V's world is twice the size of GTA: San Andreas. RDR2 doesn't have Mexico in it and is only one section of RDR, but its game world is larger than GTA V, making RDR2's world twice the size of RDR which was a bit larger than San Andreas.

One review pointed out that the game has an epilogue that makes the map even bigger, so that could be what it's about.

Game is okay, usual Rockstar stuff. Graphics and immersion factor is high. Love the simulated world, at least when it comes to NPCs and such, and the AI is fun to fight against when it's not a scripted corridor/canyon shooting gallery. But so far, one major disappointment have been the gang feature. I could swear I read they promised dynamic gang activity and such, but after so many hours in the game it's still the usual stuff. Go to mission, do mission, more often than not alone, sometimes with a buddy - but there is no bring your gang stuff. Maybe it gets unlocked later, since it feels like I'm in tutorial mode still.

One thing that makes me a bit sad when playing is the potential if this was Dragon's Dogma or any other RPG - if it would have that amount of polish and manpower behind it. Running through the forest is really cool, and I can't help imagine if it was also filled with monsters and the like.

All in all, it feels like I have played this game before, at least 3 times before. Not even euphoria engine impresses that much anymore. You can only see a guy fall head first from a canyon edge that many times before it gets old.

One more thing. It feels like they have finally balanced the amount of money you get, with actually giving you reasons to spend it. Not only on yourself this time, you use it to upgrade your camp, bandit friends and such so that is nice I guess. No story disconnect so far like Nico complaining being poor and needing money while sitting on 1 million+ in the bank.

This.

The whole game feels very deliberate in every movement, animation and even camera angles. Feels out of place in a game like this, at least from what I can tell after finishing the first short chapter.

Woah... I had mistakenly a wrong card on my preorder on Amazon and the game never came. Maybe I was in luck because I already had few doubts earlier:

it's visually gorgeous and the game world is very well fleshed out with attention to detail but game's still just an AAA open world game where you spend most of your time just riding (while pressing X of all things) and then shooting people.While it's cool to level up when growing up your beard it doesn't bring anything to the actual game itself.. Gun customization- nice to have it but does it prevent boredom? Horse shits = immersion level x 100% and so on... In the end it's still your character running around the mostly empty but beautiful map.

It's probably cool at first few hours but gets old really soon. I don't want to be the communist rebel so please don't shoot me but that's what I thought and looks like it's true when reading what people write (other than real "reviews", they all seem to praising it again. This is probably where big part of their marketing money goes). Reviewers really seem to like these cinematic experiences so much that they should actually review movies instead of games.

RDR2 makes me think that Ubisoft is a good developer and Rockstar sucks ass. Spending almost a decade for a game which doesn't offer any new gameplay mechanics or actually anything new. Shitting horses are not new and do not bring anything to the player itself. 8+ years in the making looks like it was in development hell because the managers don't know what the fuck they are doing. I'm sure when more details emerge it'll show us the RDR2 was probably redone couple of times or at least changed so much they needed to redo everything at least once after it was already almost finished. Do you know why the gameplay of Rockstar games is still very clunky, even GTA5? Because if you dare to say it's bad to the Houser brothers you'll get fired.

Max Payne 3 was rewritten (and thus re-done) ironically three times over and the last rewrite occurred after they initially went over the last release date (the delay was over one year or what I don't remember). Talk about changing minds? I am biased and maybe my writing is bit hyperbolic because I work as an animator and I hate when companies fuck over their employees which has happened to me couple of times in the past.

This is one thing that I said they we're getting right with GTA V and perhaps they've perfected it in this game. You never had too much money and nothing it could be spent on in GTA V, the previous GTA's before it had too much money that allowed you to buy everything with a lot left.

If only all these fags weren't complaining that GTA V downgraded the physics engine.

Not just Ubi but I find several other developers a lot better than Rockstar. They are simply overrated. I already knew RDR 2 will be just another open wirld with a lot of gameplay being rehashed and transferred over from their previous games. Though I haven't played the game yet but based on the walkthroughs available online, I don't get the impression of a game that I haven't experienced before.
I mean, Rockstar focuses so much on the cinematics and the world details that the actual gameplay feels an absolute bore. They don't even bother to introduce newer stuff instead of repeating the same shit as already played dozens of times since GTA SA.
Samey stuff, similar mechanics just more polished with beautiful graphics.
No doubt Rockstar are indeed the best in the industry when it comes to world details and immersion. Its astonishing and beautiful.

But, when it comes to the content offered to the players for spending time in the vast open world, Rockstar has always disappointed me. Such a waste of potential. Instead of focusing on making a great movie they are still not working properly on making the game outside the story more interesting and fun.

The reviewers calling another Rockstar game a masterpiece is also not surprising.
