About that. Is there multiplayer in the game? I've watched a couple of reviews and one LP but haven't seen any.

No MP or MTX in 2018 in a triple A game. Nope, can't believe that.

So it's exactly as expected - a Witcher 3-like interactive movie about running from point A to point B and watching pretty cutscenes. Hey, you can't overexert players if you don't exert them right?

My tip is to wait 2 years until the PC version comes out with vastly improved graphics and there will be some persistent online mode. I thought the same as you about GTA V but GTA Online can indeed be extremely addictive.

Also the shootouts look extreme fun in their own right although the aiming is fucked. In the preview videos guys often hit something without the crosshair even being over the target, either they only have op shotguns or the game somehow simulates that wrong.

Yep, it seems you just have to aim in the general vicinity of baddies and the game kills them for you. Controllers and shooters, like gin and lemon innit.

I've been watching an LP, and the debt-collector side missions are really amazing in the way they put you in the role of a cruel enforcer. Enough with being the goody hero in every game. :incline:

Mafia 3 can suck Arthur's horse's shrunken balls.

You can turn off auto-aim and putting the game in first person mode makes the shooting experience a lot better.

AFAIK you can select auto-aim, but dont have to.

I've always suspected they postponed the game by almost a year mostly because they scrambled to revamp the MP. After all they announced it shortly after the shitstorm with microtransactions in EA games and in the industry in general broke out. I'm curious about RDR2 MP more than I was curious about the campaign.

Agreed. They have years of additional experience and feedback with GTA:Online and they've countless monetization scandals in recent years. I'm expecting something very different from GTA:O in both monetization and even content.

The GTA Online thing by itself can be great for certain people, however it has the effect that it also kills their single player franchises.

Red Dead Redemption itself could be a game where the player purchases farms, gold mines, horses and stables for insane amounts of dollars that he can then share and show to his friends. Stupid? Well probably but there are people who get addicted to this shit and personally I find it much more fun than collecting checkpoints in a linear campaign, I have never pregressed the GTA original content past 5% or so and will never finish RDR 2 either if it comes out like that.

no one knows what they are planning though and I remember reading something that sounded rather evasive. It sounded like their business plan is not a RDR:Online, only normal multiplayer. There is probably a reason for that too, perhaps that it would only draw players from their own game and be a null sum effort.

I think their plan most likely will be a general online platform that will come around the time of GTA 6, a sort of ultimate gaming service (more like "RockstarOS" actually) that keeps people addicted for the rest of their lifes, which in rockstars plan a whole generation is destined to wither away in front of while yelling at their mom. I think it will be something like Identity (that vaporware shit that never got past the kickstarter scam stage) but only that it will be realistic and probably comes out one day, but who knows when (for GTA 6 we are talking 2024 or so).

For now I have only one more thing to say, the thing that I always say when something comes out exclusively for the lousy consoleplayers: fuck this shit

I haven't played RDR2 but I have played GTA V. And if that's anything to go by, Rockstar's games are pretty much nice graphics, details and cinematics, and not really much more than that. It's one thing to have detailed GAMEPLAY, and another thing to have DETAILS. Horse balls shrinking is a detail, but nothing to write home about. Games are truly threading into escapism territory nowadays. Not entertainment, simply "forgetting I'm a schmuck living in the 21st century, look at those horse balls shrink!".

At its core, what was really fun about GTA V for me was the same thing Driver did back on the PS1 (escaping from the cops), and what pretty much every game ever made did when it came to multiplayer (playing with other people).

Holy crap. A 3 hour (almost) install on my OG PS4, plus a 500mb system update to 6.02.

Still got another 30 minutes to go on the Game Disc.

Hope RDR2 Version 1.0 isn't to borked up, can't download 1.03 update with my metered connection.

Hopefully, I'll have real internet to the house in early November.

Zep--

I hate how it narrows your field of vision though. FPS in open spaces don't work well.

I'm pretty certain you can adjust FPP FOV in settings

I'd probably want to replay this on PC with kb/m and 60 fps 4k
I heard it's playable in 4K on Xbox One X

Overall, I'm pretty impressed with what I see while watching the LP.

Something I've been wishing for for a long time is a game that really allows me to do or witness cruel and evil things, but depicts both the world, the bad acts themselves, and the consequences in such detail that I really end up feeling badly about what I've done. Witcher 3 had that, that's why everyone was raving about the Red Baron, though of course it had more than that quest. RDR2 seems to have this approach in even greater quantities, and because the setting is much more realistic it's also much more impactful.

Yeah, like I wrote previously, mr. Expert on Social Justice Issues is not satisfied that the game doesn't treat his pet peeve subject with the same level of depth that he has gone to masochistically study it.

It is, but if I'm gonna replay it I'll want all my bells and whistles, plus enough time to forget about my first play through
I'm thinking the same thing. If no word comes out about a PC version by 2020, I'm getting a next gen console and playing it. By that time I won't have much memory of the LP I'm now watching as a movie.

The double standards

If you can't ridicule terror groups you can't ridicule anything.

GTAV was released 1 full year later on PC. They'd be stupid not to do the same here. Console market will be used in the same way over the next year, to trial whatever online crap they intend on packaging.

IIRC there were also rumours in 2016 about a remastered version of RDR - maybe they plan to drop both games on PC at the same time(?)

It was more like a year and a half with news of PC release emerging with the console re-release. It was scheduled for January 2015 for PC, but came out in April 2015
