Can you guys believe that my local store not only broke the street date a week early, but was selling it for only ten bucks a copy? Talk about a bargain!

Did they ever truly fix DishonoUred 2 performance (srs replies only pls, no Morgoth)?

The performance improved since launch. But I had 60fps even at launch so for me not much changed, except I can put some extra stuff at ultra that I had at high previously.
Fucking masterpiece of a game btw, that level design is second to none. Purely on the strength of D1 and D2 have I preordered Prey already (well that, and my love for anything immersive sim-like).

You have just enough time to finish SS2 before this releases, you should go do that with some minimal mods like SHTUP.

As for me, I might have :d1p: 'd if and only if they 100% confirmed the Survival Mode DLC and stopped cockteasing about it.

What he was talking about was the game I was interested in. Weapon degradation, trauma damage, limited oxygen in space walks... all of these add TENSION to a game supposedly about survival in a horrific alien-infested space station. "But we cut it, because it was too hardcore".

If they add those systems back in, maybe the game will interest me again. I have my doubts that such an update could be well designed if it's no longer created alongside the existing systems, but I'd be very intrigued to see it.

Man this is the kind of a game that makes me consider :d1p:

Should I go play SS1&2 first?

If you're not going to wait, make sure you at least get a good deal. Since it's guaranteed to bomb retailers are offering generous discounts ahead of launch.

So I played this on my SO's pee ess for. It's basically Bioshock 2.0, as in like Bioshock but twice as good/half as bad, yet still half as good as System Shock 2 or [insert classic game].

First impressions based on the demo:

+Lots of simulated interactivity. Mostly everything in the environment is interactive.
+No Vita Chambers, although it autosaves around every corner so nearly as bad. Could just be a early game thing though.
+RPG systems while still typical modern "RPG", lacking in substance and rather simplistic seem a bit above average and a bit more meaningful than the standard shite systems we have today, including those of Dishonored.
+Jumped straight into the hardest difficulty. Resources were reasonably tight.
+ Moderately open level design. Level design being one of few strengths of Arkane that has sustained into the modern era.
+Grid inventory.
+Weird floaty jumping physics the likes of System Shock 2 or Arx make a return (not really a good thing). Maybe justified because set in space though, yet physics of objects in the environment mimicked that of earth so no...

-Awful generic soundtrack and painful audio cues. Prepare to have your ears raped with constant sharp sounds and annoying droning generic music.
-Interface/hand-holding bloat. Can be turned off, but potential future incline gamers are not going to recognise that this is something that should be done.
-Feels a bit generic and cookie cutter somehow. There's not a lot to separate it from the standard FP/RPGs out there, let alone the true masterpieces. Not necessarily a bad thing though. If a formula is good it should be replicated, yet ideally refined and expanded upon rather than watered down.
-So many compromising features, like auto-sorting inventory, and the aforementioned hand holding bloat.
-Don't expect all the true intricacies and monocled design of a classic Immersive Sim or RPG here.

The intro reminded me of Deus Ex: Invisible War, yet strangely enough even less interesting.

Verdict: continued decline of the immersive sim, but points awarded for being better than Bioshock and the standard modern AAA fare. At least at first glance. Basically exactly what I was expecting it to be. May be worth picking up but only if you haven't played all the classics first.

This seems like a silly thing to nitpick, it's just a QoL improvement. It only auto-sorts when you click the button. And you'll still need to re-order stuff manually if the empty slots aren't in the right arrangement (like eg. psi hypos).
Everything else is spot on though.

We kinda don't know what exactly those features do.

Having limited oxygen is silly. That kind of suit should support you for hours, but when it's get damaged, that is a different story. Judging from what I've seen, suit is simply repairing itself, so player aren't suffering from oxygen drain, despite that he has a hole in the suit.

Weapon degradation is a cool feature, as long as it's made properly. I mean, there should be jamming animations, and other things, not just lower damage or something. Again, we don't know what it was.

As for the traumas. Would be nice to actually have a proper damaging model like in Deus Ex or Call of Cthulhu: DCotE, but they won't make it. Having just some abstract debuffs like "broken bones" is not much of a feature.

I think the real problem is just that the game is small and not that complex to have all of this. For example, there should be some kind of advanced medkits for healing serious traumas or a skill to do that, but instead you will need to find a bot to heal that for you. So they aren't going to introduce a new item or a skill, they just force the player to do some backtracking, which is not fun, and neither it is hardcore.

You can possess any item, aka porn journal simulator.
I don't remember anything similar to the glue cannon.
Typhon actually resembles some kind of insect colony, where every type has its own role. They may not look interesting, as they don't have big black eyes and tentacles, but I think they are properly developed.

Prey's Raph Colantonio Says Steam's 2 Hour Refund Policy Stands in Place of Demo

Earlier this week I had the opportunity to speak with Raphael Colantonio, Co-creative Director at Arkane Studios, about Prey. I asked him directly about the lack of a PC demo, and whether people could infer a lack of confidence in the PC version as a result.

"It's just a resource assignment thing. We couldn't do a demo on both the console and on the PC, we had to choose. And besides, PC has Steam. Steam players can just return the game [prior to playing] 2 hours so it's like a demo already. I also want to clarify that there's no PC port. I keep on hearing 'oh they're going to screw up the PC port' there is no PC port. We do the game on PC. It's a PC game. It's a different engine to Dishonored as well. So we might have our own sets of problems, but we are of course very careful because of what happened with Dishonored 2. So we wanted to make sure the PC version of Prey is good."

"We have always developed our games on PC, we're PC developers. The thing on PC though, sometimes it's just the wrong timing. The drivers just came out at the same time as your game, or the hardware combinations out there are so numerous that we can't test absolutely everything and sometimes that's just what it is. Bad timing, bad luck. But we've worked on it a lot. I'm not saying there won't be any problem at all, but I'm pretty confident right now."

Here's hoping that this will do better, sales-wise, than Dishonored 2 did.

I'm a target audience in theory and yet I was bored to death by all the footage and trailers shown, with the glue gun being the only cool thing.
Way too pretentious for mainstream gamer, way too much stupid for me to take it seriously ( coffee cup simulator, lol ), meh.

It'll flop hard.

I didn't mention it. But OK: it's the usual. Play it if you have ran out of better things to play. But there's always some old game, mod, fan TC project or indie game out there one has overlooked that's probably more worthwhile.
