Overwatch 2's PvE Mode cancelled
https://web.archive.org/web/2023051...-explains-what-happened-and-why/1100-6514242/
Game director Aaron Keller and executive producer Jared Neuss discuss why the eagerly-anticipated mode will no longer be released and the future of Overwatch 2.
the entire point of them renaming it and creating all that controversy was for naugh?
as someone who played overwatch 1 literally the minute the servers went up, this is the funniest thing I've ever seen

The real point was to make OW2 free-to-play and therefore much more monetization friendly.

What the Blizzard management is secretly saying to players behind the scenes:

gotcha!

lol...

"Right. So it's fair to say that the experience that you showed during that first Overwatch 2 reveal is not going to be the one that will be released at any point?"

Aaron Keller:
Yeah, exactly.

this interview reads like the OJ Simpson trial

This pretty much confirms Overwatch 2 is dying and they aren't making enough money with the Battle Pass. Incredible they had one of the most popular, most successful live service games on the market and then decided to ruin it.

I don’t play Overwatch. I don’t follow anything about Overwatch. But every once in a while I'll hear something new about Overwatch and it’s always funny.

Ah I worked it out.
Overwatch 1 = 6v6 no PvE
Overwatch 2 = 5v5 no PvE
Overwatch 3 = 4v4 no PvE
Overwatch 4 = 3v3 no PvE
Overwatch 5 = 2v2 no PvE
Overwatch 6 = 1v1 no PvE
Overwatch 7 = PvE finally
Makes sense actually.

Bravo blizzard, just fucking bravo. Pve was literally the only reason given for overwatch 2 being a thing at all but i guess they are done with even that flimsy pretense.

So in summary, this is what overwatch 2 has brought:
-2 less players in matches forcing samey comps
-removal of some of the more open maps in favor of small tunnel maps due to 5v5
-battlepass
-heroes locked behind said battlepass
-making a bunch more heroes gay and lgbt
-renaming jesse mcree
-introducing various ways for blizz to nanny their players and spy on your chat in case you get too spicy, cant have fun in our game!
-shutting down overwaif 1 and forcing everyone to transfer to 2 whether they wanted it or not

And yet blizzard has the balls to try and act outraged about the porn. Bitches, the porn is literally the only thing carrying this franchise at all.

And yes if you are one of those who bought the overwatch 2 limited edition at full any price you deserve to be locked in a mental institution for being so retarded you are a clear menace to society. Arguably the same applies if you are still playing this game at all.

Guys, everyone makes a mistake from time to time... I am sure Diablo 4 and its battle pass will be real bangers though.

It's also the third time Blizzard tried to make a shooter that isn't pure pvp and fell flat on their face. First Starcraft Ghost, then Project Titan (which was axed and turned into Overwatch) and now this. And the number of successes on this front are... none.

Blizzard really are one of the worst developers. This kind of shit used to get played off as Blizzard high standards, but it’s just bullshit. They’ve been announcing projects and then cancelling them after years of stringing their audience along since Warcraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans. The only big difference here is they also pulled the trigger on a big rebranding push for an existing game as a sequel and now the whole reason behind that rebranding isn’t even happening.

Starcraft: Ghost was a really weird example of this because by all means, everything they were showing off of the last version of it looked pretty cool. By the end that game had a multiplayer mode that basically seemed to be a third person shooter RTS hybrid of Starcraft.

Warcraft 3 was also this, as this original RPG RTS hybrid version of Warcraft 3 is nothing at all like the Starcraft take they ended up turning it into after a few years of development and showing it off.

And then there’s stuff you don’t really hear much about before they can it, like Blizzard North’s Diablo 3, and that Diablo game they were making that was inspired by Dark Souls. Blizzard trying to make their own Dark Souls is maybe the oddest of them, given Activision was actively working with FromSoftware at the time. FromSoftware is also a developer that does contract work, if Blizzard did want a Diablo Dark Souls, by all means it would’ve been completely feasible for them to just hire FromSoftware themselves to make it. That Project Hades game was in development for around two to three years; FromSoftware could’ve given them a finished game in that amount of time.

Damn, guess that takes the wool off of my eyes. I was enamored for so long just because of Warcraft III. :S

Never heard of this. It could have been cool.

Anyway, it seems to me that Blizzard has simply lived on what it did in the good old days (Lost Vikings, Diablo I-II, Starcraft) from a reputation standpoint.
Then they hit the jackpot with WoW, making billions with the subscriptions and after that, it seems they just lost contact with reality.
They don't have any new ideas. They keep canceling projects.

Even Overwatch, their newest IP, came out just by chance, it was a fluke.
And they clearly don't know what to do with it.

I hope someone has been fired for this, but probably it didn't happen.

Some people think Project Titan/Overwatch PVE never existed and Blizzard was just helping the Destiny team off-the-books. The Overwatch franchise being money laundering would not surprise me at all

Blizzard North is the important word here. Blizzard North was responsible for most of what made Blizzard "Blizzard". The entire ethos behind Diablo and by proxy WoW was entirely their work that big bro "Blizzard" simply appropriated without really understanding it. Which is why WoW eventually degraded from a MMO into a dungeon runner.

Something very similar occurred with Warcraft and Starcraft where the lions share of work was done by people who either left shortly after and were simply swept under the rug. And the absence of this talent is the most likely culprit behind Blizzard's current inability to put out a functioning product.

Future generations are going to look back on the cancellation of Overwatch 2 like we look back on the collapse of the Soviet Union. This is legitimately fucking scary.

An Indian guy even took a break from shitting in the street to make a sad YouTube video

Did I accidentally time-travel back to the year 2005? Sure, Blizzard North was basically Diablo: The Studio and brought them extremely important insight like the first version of something that eventually became Battle.NET, but that was only one arm of the company. Diablo II is one of the most overrated games ever and mostly vindicated by the sequels being rotten dogturds.

Completely ignoring the sharp decline in output quality after the Activision merger is baffling. Even Overwatch still benefited from the pre-merger Titan Project assets which I argue are the only competently made part of the game and the only reason the game sold as well as it did.

Some recent comments from Reddit in regards to OW2 article from PC Gamer.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comm.../?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

Government should mandate price caps for video games

https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comm.../?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

And that's why all these fuckin wannabe capitalists in the comments piss me off. Bunch of armchair stockholders talking money like they make it like the parasites they're knuckle-shuffling

And if they really are, they don't have a chair at the table to talk with me
