Looks fake (biggest giveaway: No name given), but I'm sure the actual announcement is soon since it was supposed to come this year and TGS starts next week (Nintendo normally does Directs around this time).

If somehow true: 256 GB internal storage? So it can't even store the new CoD game MS has pledged to port to Nintendo systems?

I expected the actual console itself to look similar, but bigger, so not surprised. The Joy Con design is disappointing, though. They could have moulded some hand grips into it. Worse yet, it seems they have decided to go with four buttons instead of a proper d-pad, which is ironic when you consider the history of the d-pad.
And it's all just to maintain multiplayer tabletop gaming compatibility out the box. How many people even use the Switch like that these days?

In regard to specs, I'm not surprised. 12 GB of ram seems about right for a Nintendo current gen system. Two cooling fans has me wondering about battery life. I read that it will be called Switch 2, which is sensible.

Electromagnetic joysticks (aka Hall Effect joysticks) are a type of joysticks that use magnets and electrical conductors to measure their position, distance, and movement when in use.
Unlike standard analog sticks, which use potentiometers (basically an electrical resistance) to detect movement, Hall Effect joysticks have no physical contact between the moving parts.
Meaning that magnetic joysticks last far longer than analog joysticks and suffer less from issues such as stick drifting.

so what will the performance specs be

the switch was basically an XBox 360 +
will the switch 2 be the equivalent of an XBox 1.5? :)

also, 12Gb of RAM? that shit will barely last a year, the standard is already 16Gb

Did they reinforce the case so that the switch can hold up better when you have to bash your wife over the head with it?

Rookie error - don't use electronic devices to bash your wife dude - the device might break.

This late in the game I’d expect a Switch 2 to be more powerful than the PS4 Pro.

Weren’t the leaks from last year saying the Switch 2 was more powerful than the Xbox Series S?

No reason for this to exist as long as Steam Deck is on the market

It’d expect a Switch 2 to be better than the Steam Deck. If this thing comes out next year the Steam Deck will be three years old. Especially if the reports from last year about the Switch 2 being more powerful than Xbox Series S are true. The Switch 2 will be the first of the tenth generation of consoles to come out.

The Steam Deck is a better purchase for a more savvy customer, assuming the specs given are accurate, it's basically an inferior Steam Deck.

- You'll most likely have to purchase all your other games again as opposed to the Steam Deck where you can just re-download all your purchased games
- 12GB RAM as opposed to Steam's 16.
- 256GB (most likely HDD) compared to all of Steam's models which feature an SSD.
- You can plug a mouse and keyboard into it and play older games that are incompatible with a controller like old cRPGs.
- You can emulate Switch games on it :incline:

but Nintendo fans will purchase it regardless because they just eat up whatever it is they put out, even if the company never figures out that competent technology exists.

Ahh didn't know that just meant Hall effect joysticks (I don't understand any of that stuff anyway so thanks for the explanation as well), that's good then! I was starting to think their fix for the drift issues was gonna be replaceable joysticks

Not really, the first Switch is probably the best proof it will most likely be not only successful but long-lasting as well, despite being memory starved. 16GB is more than enough for a mostly remote console, it is however both sad and unexpected Nintendo is trying to cheap out on fucking RAM off all things.

Every Nintendo system that stays within the same “family,” that is named after the previous system, has been backwards compatible with that system since the Game Boy Color. Every new Game Boy could play the games of the other Game Boys. If this is called Switch 2, it’s most likely it’ll play everything that came out on the Switch...just like how the Wii U played Wii games. Even if it’s not called Switch 2 it’s probably be backwards compatible given how huge the Switch is for them; Wii could originally play GameCube games, they ended up dropping that at a certain point, but the original ones could play GameCube games.
