Has anyone heard of this game or played it or something?

Neurohunter
Neuro Hunter combines the best of Deus Ex, McGyver and System Shock

I remember finding the game site a while ago, but the 'dot has just brought it back to my attention.
I dismissed it as an fps, but then in the FAQ it says...
Neuro Hunter is a role playing game with action elements (60% RPG, 40% ACTION).

So, big promises indeed - invoking the likes of Deus Ex and System Shock is enough to get my gaming stiffy at least slightly rigid.

I had a gander at the trailer, but unfortunately no gameplay shown, just cutscene-style stuff. From what I could gather from it, it certainly has the right sort of subject matter for us LGS/Ion Storm fps-rpg fans.

It is no doubt a lower budget title. But I'm willing to take some hits in the presentation if the gameplay elements that matter (i.e. story and rpg-lite elements) work.

So, as I said above, anyone have some first-hand (2nd hand?) knowledge about it?
I'm damn interested.

PC gamer UK gave it 58% "A sprawling, unfocused story that's tiring to play"

Some quotes:

"...though an FPS, neuro hunter has a heavy roleplaying bias and wants to be like deus ex, or system shock, or just something fun. Unfortunately, it's replaced tension with longwinded inaction, originality and stale SF cliches and freedom with increasingly tedious chores. It doesn't even make much sense"

"...so you talk to bolt upright people; they give you chores. At first you kill rubbish creatures, find stuff and open crates/doors by "picking" locks - or to put it another way, guessing combinations through trial and error. Later, you do more of this but with computers".

"...eventually neuro hunter spices up by really starting to rip off the Matrix, but the longwinded chores, lack of clear goals, endless scuttling (sideways, absurdly, it's quicker), system-intenstive ugliness and glacial progression sap you will to go on."

Well, this review at Loadedinc.com gives a not too bad overview.
The game definitely sounds like a mixed bag, but could be mildly interesting if you're a connoisseur of shit games like myself

It is difficult for me to suggest that anyone play this game, because it is not very inspiring on an originality level. However, the elements that are present are relatively fun and the overall experience was not one that I was bored with. This is one of those titles that is good and could have been great. In the end, if you like games such as Deus Ex, this is probably worth a look. It is not quite as good in the story department, but unique enough in its individual parts to keep you entertained for some time

I'm currently stuck in Neuro Hunter because I just can't seem to get my head around the cyber battles. I have actually seen people say they enjoy them but it's like pulling teeth for me.

Aside from that the combat is tired and awkward - currently my enemies need to be hit/shot about 20-25 times to die but ranged ammo is hard to find and if you go toe-to-toe you get ripped to bits. So I do what I've always done in FPS games and circle-strafe but now most of the weapons are too slow/too little range to use effectively. Add to that that there will be 3 or 4 enemies in a given area and combat is just a frustrating grind.

The games ugly but if they made your weapons do about 5 times the damage (or, heavens, fixed the combat) and did away with the cyber battles (really not getting these) it would be a playable mediocre game. As is I'd avoid it.

If you're one of those people who like the cyber battles - give me some hints!!

I don't even know why I care enough to finish this thing when I have Space Rangers 2 waiting to install.

Ever played Alcatraz: Prison Escape? It's some quality shit I think you'll enjoy. A pretty bad "RPG" type adventure game nonsensical escape from prison after prison (repeatedly) thing.

Fuck it. Grabbed the demo, just for the hell of it, and you can't even invert the mouse, not even through config files, or reg editing. Neuro Hunter loses.

Shagnak - Shaggy - do you mind if I call you Shaggy? Okay Shaggy, let me tell you a story about what I think of Neuro Hunter. Last tuesday, I went to visit my cousins down in the Pennsylvania corn farms. Now my cousin's family is pretty weird, see, they have this fetish with barnyard animals. My cousin would drag this cow over to the pastures and have wild anal sex with it up the ass. Well, he asked me if I'd like to join him, and promises that it'll be "hell-a-fun", so I shrug and say, "Okay, sure!" for I, too, enjoy copulation with farmyard animals. Well, that night, we went out to the pasture and picked out this sexy mama of a cow. My cousin took out a bottle of laxatives and mixed it with the cowfeed. (It's suppose to lubricate the anus). So we waited until the cow finished feeding, and led her down by the silo. However, just as we were getting ready to get down and nasty, my cousin tossed his cigarette at a pile of hay near by and lo and behold, it caught on fire. The cow got scared, but the dumb animal charged right into the silo wall, causing the entire roof to cave in right on top of us, catching fire. So the two of us ran like hell outside, and we hear a loud PFFFTTT behind us. We look back, and what do we see shooting out of the half-exposed ass of the cow trapped underneath 20 pounds of burning rubble but a solid stream of cowshit. This fecal projectile launched like World of Warcraft opening day and carved through the air like an ICBM. Whammo! It caught on fire in midair just as the barn collapsed totally and landed right on my shoe. Now I've seen some pretty crazy shit before, but this was a whole 'nother level. Being a self-imposed connoisseur of all sorts of shit, I'd have to rate that shit a 4 stars out of 5, which is 3 and a half stars more than what I'd rate Neuro-hunter.

Hope that helps.

A lovely tale combined with a brutally honest opinion!
Bravo! :D

And yeah, you can call me Shaggy. Or Shag. Or Shags. Or Shagster.
Hell, some people even get away with calling me Shitnak!

I think the Hairy Homo called you 'Shitgnat' if i'm not mistaken. Totally unwarranted, and not as nice as 'Sheep Shagging Shiznawaggabang'
