My first post and Everquest II horror story

Hi. I just joined because of a thread I read before that I fully agreed with.

It was about how MMORPG's these days are a treadmill of leveling. I have to agree.

One such nightmare I keep getting sucked into is Everquest.

The original had it's problems with people constantly camping, stealing kills, etc. So, in Everquest II, they lazily eliminated the kill-stealing by locking battles. Ok....BIG DEAL. Where are the rest of the "improvements"?? My character leveling was going slow so I figured: "Hey! I'll join a guild of people who want to form a good strong group and will actually help out each other!" what a stupid idiot I was.....

I joined a guild in EQII and got helped a couple times--- then they ignored me. I would ask for help with a quest and they were too busy hanging around in a tight clique in a place where lower level characters would get slaughtered easily. I treadmilled for days, only gaining 2 or 3 levels. Then I asked again. Again, the same respons. "Sorry, we're busy." So, I decided to have it out with them and try to explain how I felt. I said "Wouldn't it make sense to have a LOT of high level characters to be able to help the newer people out so some of the higher level characters (the same 5 or 6 in this case) wouldn't have to constantly worry about helping people all the time?"...

You know what they did? They kicked me out of the guild. LOL!!

How's THAT for community for ya?

I mean, doesn't that make sense to have a lot of high level people in a guild so they can help others be high level people???

It seemed to me that they wanted people they could LORD OVER. That's just plain wrong.

You expected any less? I personally refuse to try EQ2 based solely on the opinions and horros stories of what others have said.

Welcome to one of the many reasons to hate EQ2.

They said they would make EQ2 more small-guild/single group centered...they didnt.

They said they would make the character creation/customization (not just graphics but character choices) more sophisticated...they didnt.

They said that they would elimiate the grind (never believed them on that anyway)...they didnt.

Having been part of (insert boast here) guild in EQ1 I know how small guys get the shaft. The community only rocks when you're part of the "in crowd" or you bring your friends to play with you.

Sorry you had the trouble. I hate that game too.

Well, a group of somewhat decent people forming a new guild found me. We're all pretty much the same level. They seem cool.

I'll see how it goes.

But, yeah, the other guild was a complete wash. Maybe this will be better with decent people who share the same philosophy as me. We had a HUGE talk before we formed the guild.

Time will tell---- it always does. :)

So once you level up to high levels with your new guild mates, You will spend large parts of your day going and "helping out" out the low level newbs in your guild then? you wont ever be busy?

Can you let me know which guild it is once you are high level, so I can get in on the free ride. thanks!

MMORPGs like Everquest are pure garbage. I've better things to do than to treadmill all day, plus games like Guild Wars allow me to have as much fun as I want to without worry about levelling up. Treadmilling sucks balls.

Don't you know all the guilds are secretly controlled by SOE to ruin the fun of honest gamers?

DUH.

*hums the cleric epic camping song* I am an evercrack/evercamp addict. I have been clean for three years....

I played EQ almost from the start (Bris server with one of the Team Japan guilds). The complaint of the new player has ever thus been the same.... why won't you rez me? why won't you buff me? why won't you PL me? why won't you twink me? why won't you talk dirty with me over PM?

Throw the game away and take up a more sociable activity. Like , hmmm, I'd better go check the forum rules...

EQ fighter classes suck. Period.

Every group needs them, but no group wants to help them.

Are you all social workers? If I had the time or interest to MMORPG, I'd kick this leech the hell out of my guild. How dare the high level guild members hang out in a level-appropriate place? How dare they expect low level members of the guild be at least somewhat self-sufficient, or be respectful of other people's time.

I have to deal with these fuckers in real life that join a mailing list, newsgroup, web board, etc... to ask a question that's been answered and archived 100 times. I've had intelligent conversations with some of them (i.e. not "RTFM Fuck1n N3wb!!!"), and many of them seem like nice, polite people. They just believe in some fucked up communal time share where if someone else can solve your problem in 30 seconds instead of the 5 minutes it would take you, then they are obliged to do so with a smile.

Nah, but the original poster is either very young or very retarded. In either case, I'll hold back on the flame because I don't want to further damage an obviously very vulnerable ego.

I didn't upgrade to EQ2 . I remember from EQ the run through FP as an epic Cleric was horrid - only to be matched by the run through the area just outside FP.

It wasn't because someone was a 'n00b' but because they got upset when you explained that you'd like to log out without going round commonlands trawling for a corpse, they'd lost (which had usually gone through corpse decay anyway) or carefully explaining that group aeo killed your mana and you needed it because you were scheduled to mass buff on the guild raid which you were headed to.

Communal time is fine, and I had no problem helping out guildies who needed it but really it's more of a gift than an obligation below epic quests and scheduled raids for most guilds.

The changes to EQ which were implemented to speed level increases (remember level 49 first time round? Did the blue bar move a pixel? Or is it screen flicker?..) made levelling so very fast and simple. EQ2 seems to be even quicker. You get yourself up to level that your guild needs, then you get the toys and support. You give before you take.

Bah, someone flame me for being sad enough to play that game! It looks like I might get to literate before someone tries to singe my asbestos underpants

If they'd rather play with their friends then help newbs, then not really, no. How long did it take you to realise that it wasn't that kind of guild?
