Seems nice. Make UI and item folder look more oldschool like Diablo that'd be nice.

Clockpunk and gothic architecture&atmoshphere is nice combo, don't give up on that.

Haven't tried the demo yet but I'll give it a shot some time, it seems promising, will continue to monitoring this thread.

But as a game it still needs to inform players about the AI's condition, and Barks are IMO a better way to do that then having a UI indicator
Besides having a soldier charging at you with murdeous intent while shouting "HAVE AT THEE!!!" is pretty dope

This looks nice but i wonder if it'd be better to have a bit more "fluid" interaction like with (IIRC) Amnesia where you can grab and rotate things freely (in general i'd put Frictional's approach to world interaction as among the best IMO). Assuming it doesn't mess with other systems of course.

Bonus on medievalesque old parchment(?) effect on the edges of the paper. Details like this can make a game an urforgettable classic. It really helps with game atmosphere.

When I played the demo I thought it'd be fun to open the doors the amnesia way too, so you could swing them open fast or slowly to carefully see if anything is behind them. Just grab and hold and move your mouse, simple.

I just discovered that there is actually monster infighting, really nice, though it seems to need some work. I got a rat to attack one of those zombie humanoids, but the zombie just kept trying to run after me while the rat beat it down. I also could not get the slimes to fight with the rats or humanoids no matter how hard I tried, everything kept coming after me.

Oh yes. This had various reasons in the demo (which was basically a different code base than the one I am using now). Infighting was technically possible but not a very well-known feature for the stated reasons. The AI did not really have any kind of threat management (i.e., aggression decay that would make it switch its combat targets). There were basically three AI states (peaceful, alarmed, and attacking). That's technically fine, but without threat management, infighting could only be triggered in the peaceful and the alarmed state. Once NPCs would see a target they would relentlessly attack it until it's either dead or they lost it. In the old code base, there is even a bug in which enemies wouldn't stop attacking dead combat targets. In some cases they had a problem with looping back into their peaceful state - that's basically what you get when you don't have a proper state machine in place, so AI was also one of the major reasons why I did the refactor. Another aspect of infighting is faction affiliation - I believe in the old code slimes and rats were in a faction called "Hostile Nature", whereas the humanoids were either "Lysandria" or "Wasteland". That aspect is still in the new code, but now I tend to link certain enemy types to a dedicated faction. I still have to rework a couple of things (also wrt threat management) but the setup of the new perception system is much more modular and adaptable, so that isn't as much of a big deal as it was with the old code.

But seriously, it's still a good bit of work. I just patched in the reworked demo content and dropped a level blockout from last year, because its realization was no longer in the scope of the project.
Besides, it was so-so in terms of design and what I am replacing it with is not only significantly more manageable but also just plain better in terms of verticality, aesthetics, mechanics, etc. In fact, it's quickly becoming one of my favorite areas.
For those that read my monthly ramblings: I am talking about the area that I would have originally worked on during update 3 but I actually went and switched updates 2 and 3 around. It's coming along very well, even though I am - surprise, surprise - yet again behind schedule. I might go into a bit more detail on all of this in the coming update.
