I was wondering what was taking Metroid Prime 4 so long (literally the only reason I have not sold my switch)....looked it up...

They restarted development completely in 2019.

Super Metroid's Samus could jump several times her own height, and run rather fast even without the speed boosters. Sluggish she was not.

There are no 'vania' elements (RPG elements)
I'm sure the vania in Metroidvania came from Castlevania, not from RPG elements. Yes, SotN had some RPG elements, but it's obvious that the vania had to do with it being Castlevania.
Then again, the reason they start calling some Castlevania as Metroidvania was how those Castlevania played like Metroid games, but now Metroidvania just mean whatever they want it to mean.

Level geometry looks basic so far, doubt it will have secret passages and such like Super, which is one of the main reasons why that game is still at the top of the heap imo

Looks worse than Metroid Prime running in Dolphin at 1080p. Not sure why Nintendo is pushing the awful combo of cell-shaded and normal maps in literally everything either. Will probably play it regardless eventually.

Metroid is a series that was completely destroyed by the competition it inspired, and every """innovation""" they try to inject into the series keep making the series worse rather than better because they don't understand what is appealing about the genre Metroid created and how to properly refine it, something people who make metroid-like games without owning the license do 666% better.

It's the second most pathetic Nintendo franchise, right after Pokemon.

The action itself looks great. Snappy and upbeat. But whether it's any good or not will ultimately boil down to level & item design.

I swear there was another Metroid thread somewhere where we discussed this one. Anyways, Metroid games had usually been of excellent quality, with Fusion being the weakest of the good ones. Other M, Federation Force and MR2 SR are shit or mediocre at best. As for this one, since it continues where Fusion ended, Samus should have half of her body mutated or more by the Parasite X, then mutated further by the fusion (heh) with Metroid DNA. Perhaps something or someone heals her and thus the devs have a perfect excuse to depower her, as well as giving her a new, white suit.

Doesn’t look particularly great, but Metroidvanias rarely do in trailers IMO. The genre is so heavily dependent on exploration as a motivating factor for the player that trailers just can’t give an accurate impression of the gameplay.

Glad to see more organic environs, that was something I was left craving in Fusion. Love the new movement options. Definitely a buy, just gotta cop a switch sometime...
