grantee Overhype Studios UG (limited liability); Hamburg, Hamburg
contents "Menace" will be a complex turn-based tactics game from Overhype Studios. The game consists of two separate levels. The first level is the strategic level where the player makes overall decisions. The second level is the turn-based battles that are fought on a tactical map.
The game is created in Unity and comes up with modern 3D graphics. Based on the experiences from previous developments, game content is partly generated procedurally, but expanded and expanded with additional innovations and mechanics.
In combination with a high degree of playful freedom, every player has an individual gaming experience. The factions that appear in the game have fundamentally different characteristics and abilities. Particularly noteworthy is the different and complex AI (artificial intelligence), which gives the factions character, credibility and aspirations through their own behavior and their own strategic and tactical approaches.
Funding amount €1,073,555.00
duration 01/12/2021-31/12/2024

The description is pretty vague, but seems to confirm:
  • turn based
  • strategic and tactical level
  • PC
  • 3D gfx
  • Unity
  • procedural generation
  • 2024/25 planned release?

Yeah, it's a temptation for the artist to get carried away and blow the budget on minute details that the brain will start ignoring after a few hours anyway. BB had great art direction so I hope they will know better than that.

3d is definitely cheaper than 2d so there's that.

>> modern 3D graphics.

I hate that trend. I prefer my graphics legless sprites. Decline!

I don't mind as long as it's not fortnite cartoon style. I just hope they keep the high detail, like how every equipment can be seen visually on your dudes. Adds 12% to immersion.

That name though. What can be extracted from that? Menace? In the sense of a strategy/tactical game. Some kind of invasion? But menace doesn't sound that terrifying. "Damn, time to clean up the rat-mutant menace again".

Nobody mentioned the lack of the term "RPG" in the game's description. I wonder if that remains the case when it's formally announced.

Menace might just be a codename.

Hmmm, probably too early for true hype, but I'm glad they're starting on a new game.

If it was me, I would probably put out a Battle Brothers sequel. The success and popularity of BB all but guarantees sales.

Yeah, add a load of new features, some new enemies, maybe expand the game world even more. I'd throw down some more money for BB2.

BB could certainly use some improvements especially outside combat but a new title can be great as well if they can create combat as good as in BB and add better world building to the mix. Also a strategy layer. The biggest part i'm worried right now is the atmosphere. BB had a unique one, i wonder if they can create something unique a 2nd time.

Unity and modern 3D graphics makes me wary, everything else seems fine.
If they're making a better nuXcom than nuXcom, I won't complain though, let's wait and see...

So instead of Battle Brothers 2 we gef a sci fi nu xcom like. Damn it all.
There's no description of setting here yet. So it could also be fantasy, modern or historical setting.
Overhype had years ago some drawings about uniforms what was supposed to be Jagged Alliance inspired game. So there's that.

There's nothing here that suggests nuXCOM.

Honestly, based on the grant description they could just be making BB2. Modern 3D graphics is vague, maybe it's high fidelity legless models now with rendered clouds/rivers and shit.

I should move to germanland.
