A genius milf needs assistance!? Of course we help her!
Even if she turns out to be fake, her smelling abilities could be useful....Not to mention having someone experienced would be great help amongst our rather young minded crew.
Plus she is a milf.

demand she solve a tricky riddle in order to obtain our assistance

Not bad. Some quick check of her alchemical knowledge to the extent that we understand it, and it has a quick short answer. Like "What is the root that grows beneath hanged men? Whence comes it to grow?"

(Would be even cooler if we could then force choke the thugs somehow right after she answers.)

That might be tricky.
I assume that there is differences between this world and our world biosphere, not to mention names might be very well be very different...

I don't know how to answer that and am not about to go Googling it at the moment. I have also not planned for any significant amounts of real world alchemy to be involved because it's too much work and it's easier for me to just make up bullshit about magic mushrooms on the fly.

So I'll just assume she knows what you guys are talking about, if it's relevant to the fantasy science she does. :M

So, that guy with the hat, and his pretty companion. Also with twins and a goblin slave.
Oh, yeah. A full circus of oddities in a city of bored miners. We are about as inconspicuous as a polar bear in a desert.

And now we've been asking about Zayan in half of the town's tarerns. We should probably expect some interest to our persona.

“That makes me very curious indeed. You bear the smell of an inhuman monster. That rules out Barzam. You could be the alleged angel working for Methuss, but I find it hard to believe a dreaded weapon of war would be fishing for rumours in a tavern. You might be Galbaldian, but I doubt it for a very important reason. [...] Galbaldian muscle-head agents do not have that sort of mastery over magic. Now, of the major powers, that leaves Byarlant, but I am rather certain you are not with them. Their spies would be less obvious, though of course they would not escape my eyes all the same.”
It is interesting how she ruled our Barzam right away, with no possible exceptions. Tells a lot about the place.

On another note, Galbaldians and Byarlantians might be of interest to us. Galbaldy looks like a land that lacks mages - or sophistication of any kind, really, - and Byarlantians appear to be the scheming types. I wonder if that person in black who fought Rin wasn't one of them. I thought they were Methussian just because they didn't fit any other profile.

If they take me back, I will suffer a fate worse than death.
I wonder if she didn't mean it as 'I'll be put in a company of people who don't know the first thing about SCIENCE'. :M

Na, we should ask her to solve this in thirty seconds.

Three gods A, B, and C are called, in no particular order, True, False, and Random. True always speaks truly, False always speaks falsely, but whether Random speaks truly or falsely is a completely random matter. Your task is to determine the identities of A, B, and C by asking three yes-no questions; each question must be put to exactly one god. The gods understand Dijehnese, but will answer all questions in their own language, in which the words for yes and no are da and ja, in some order. You do not know which word means which.

The solution is of course to cast Universal Translation.

The only thing I know Rutger Hauer from is Blade Runner.

Well, I'll file that under 'interesting to know'.

C seems a bit too attractive, there's got to be some sort of catch to it. I'll vote B on a hunch, can't quite explain why but I think things may not go as planned.

six missing men, when there are unique group of strangers in the town?
Something tells me that we are among top ten in suspect list, when they start searching those men.

Of course we could be long gone by then.

The fact that there are no bodies is however something that would draw some manner of attention (being that those bodies probably are supposed to report to people) and if our rather noticeable self was seen together with the woman that they were sent to catch, someone might start connecting the dots. Folks don't just vanish for no reason, generally.

The catch is that it is delightfully meaningless if its purpose is avoiding suspicion. That would probably be A and finding another way to contact Zayan, or sneak/break her out of prison.

I would expect these people not to work alone - there might be more of them who saw us and Zayan heading for the alley. I imagine our interest in the scientist - who just so happens to be a No.1 wanted (wo)man, - and a fugitive's disappearance along with her pursuers to be quickly connected.

No bodies = no evidence.
I don't think evidence is something those guys are overly concerned about.

We are probably making an enemy out of the governor here. And that's totally fine. It's impossible to totally avoid a clash with authorities in a Codexian CYOA. :M

The real curve ball might be going full pigeon while killing these thugs and then accidentally carnaging our MILF by accident.

I change my suggested method of dispatch. Just sleep spell, then drag their bodies deeper in the tunnels, take all their gear, and hit support posts behind us with iceball blasts as we leave. We can even say we didn't kill them, because they might be alive behind the collapse... naked in the dark.

Shit... changed my mind entirely. B.

I have a feeling that escaping with Zayan into the old disused tunnels leads to more fun. Maybe monsters and other pets. But yell out to Rin to gather our followers and leave the town before doing our dash.

Slaves. There were a lot of those here. Slavery had been a rarity back in the Seven Kingdoms, an endeavor reserved mainly for punishment of law-breakers. You had not seen any slaves in Erise either, but judging from Ontoglia, and from Runde’s story, they would be fairly common in the more urban regions. The slaves are mainly human, a good mix of locals and foreigners from the looks of it, while non-human slaves are in the minority.
Hm. treave, how one does spot a slave in Methuss? Clothes? Brands? Attitude? Probably not chains, as they seem to be employed in many line of work. The monster ones should be fairly obvious, but I am talking about humans.

How do they treat slaves? Is there discontent to capitalize on? Something tells me that Methuss might not take after Greece, what with them not being allowed to own any property.

Do they sell or buy any here? How much an average human/goblin would cost?

C. They will remember your hat. They cannot leave this alley alive. You will bury them, then interrogate the woman afterwards. Also incinerate the bodies afterwards.
Maybe its time for some good old slave revolt and revolution.

C - I really don't trust her. If this is Zayan, what was she doing in a bar? But, eh, might as well.

Probably hiding from a governor who wants her to complete the mining machine. Where else is she supposed to be?

It makes sense that the governor, for his part, made up the rumor that Zayan left town. Makes it easier to apprehend a 'con artist', since no one knows what the scientist really looks like and everyone expects an old geezer - and calms down the town somewhat, since a missing Zayan and an uncertainty is better than the one openly working on a project that can overturn the city's status quo overnight.

But yeah, there is also a possibility that she isn't the one we seek. However she is, without mistake, from Dijeh - and my guess is that two people from Dijeh (if there are two) are hardly a coincidence. Even if she might not be the legendary mechanic himself, she will lead us to him.

As much as I find the 'you have seen my hat, now I have to kill you' attitude amusing, I am afraid I need to go back to the roots of why I picked this LP, and ask myself, "What would Jesus do?"

Flopping to B. :salute:

It is interesting to see that no one picks A as their first choice. I wonder what are we afraid of. To disappoint the damsel? It still states that we will be trying to contact Zayan, just without forcing a confrontation here.
