In ADOM, necromancy is a "chaotic" act of reanimating the dead and imbuing it with dark forces, it alwas shift your alignment to chaotic and requires a corpse and despite everyone being able to use it, only those who chose the Necromancer class can craft more complex undead. But there is a alternative type of necromancy which uses clay and instead of animating the deadm animates clay, creating homunclus, living statues and golems. White necromancy in ADOM is all around constructs and only neutral/lawful mist elves could use it.The greatest price to play to be a white necromancer is to have to be a Mist Elf. By far the worst race in the game. Being very squishy in a game where you can press a key and reload is one thing. Being squishy in a roguelike is a huge problem.
This Let's play will be till my death. I will probably not complete the game, as I never have completed the game, in fact, most of my characters barely get the first one of the five chaos orbs necessary to beat the game. I play very cautiously and will try to be even more, that said :
Character creation :
Creating my mist elf necromancer. I could chose the tree for the benefit in survivability or cup for faster leveling up and more spell knowledge. Spells in this game are inspired by Vancian magic system, they are objects which enter in your mind and you can run out of "frostbolts" and also require PP to cast. Hence getting more spell uses is a huge bonus. Both are incredible good. So I flipped a coin and chose cup due the result. Dumped DEX and maxed TOUGHNESS, picked talents to increase it and my xp gain and created my char. Necromancers always start with frostbolt + another book. I re created my char till I got a healing spell cuz mist elves are extremely slow at natural healing
First dungeon
Remember when I said that Mist elves are extremely fragile? In the starting cave which has nothing, I almost died, a random attack from a random mob and my char went to almost dead. Also found some books increasing my frost bolt usages. After reaching lv 5, moved to the village,
Also found "thick furs", as a mist elf, I can't equip stuff with impure metal which makes gearing mainly early on far harder, but sadly the item was cursed and I had to use one of my few scrolls of uncurse on it
First quest :
Now, I wanna get my alignment to neutral or lawful and at find clay to animate. so I visited the village close to the game beginning and talked with a little girl. She lost her dog and wanna it back. Her dog is a time sensitive quest, if you take too long, he will be dead and you would't be able to get "lawful" points. I will try to do this quest but IDK if the dungeon layout will help me or not, if is too risky, I would't risky my charname's life.
And in the first door that I open in the dungeon, I'm blinded by a trap and attacked by a huge ORC horde, I had to pray to my Goddess to save me and she helped me, but it costs piety and praying should be view as a last resort
And ran out of mana during the fight, having to retreat and re heal. But I decided to see how the dungeon is in the deeper floors. There are 6 floors to clear to rescue the dog. The dungeon was good till the 5th floor. Too much mobs, almost died again and ran out of mana, so I leaved the dungeon, healed and to this point, her dog is probably already dead. So I visited the same dog dungeon again only to search new items and found nothing good.
The small cave :
The small cave is a dungeon where enemies scale with 2x your level, there is no level scaling in this game except by this cave and passing this cave is a good way to reach a city with good merchants. Who knows if I can make profit there or not. I need more XP and better items for more survivability so I visited there and got extremely lucky, the entrance to the second floor is close to the exit
And in the second floor, I found a amazing book of petrification. A OHK spell, sadly I don't have enough mana to cast it. But this spell can be useful in about 15+ levels.
And that is it, my first session. My objectives are now, finding reagents for my white necromancy, better defensive gear and more spell tomes.
