Rescue the papal envoy first. Might as well have another cavalry regiment before the other battle.

Go for the new hero. I hope he will bring personal guards, like Richard, so you will spend lot of geld after battles again.

INTERLUDE IV - TACTICAL GENIUS

201706281729121.jpg

Time to get rid of some renegade templars.

Renegade_%28HammerFall_album%29.jpg

201706281730081.jpg

Map certainly looks familiar.

201706281730281.jpg

Enemy force is pretty formidable. They have templars and crusader archers, but also multiple cavalry regiments. A few vassal chumps complement the rest.

201706281730511.jpg

And then there's these bad boys. High-tier heavy cavalry regiment, might even be the best in the game, I think, or at least comparable to French chevaliers.

201706281731421.jpg

Fortunately, we have the advantage of some nearby bushes.

201706281734491.jpg

Alas, mobbing our forces here is not enough, because the enemy is not that dumb to charge into us. This requires, you guessed it,

201706281735041.jpg

Master baiting!

201706281735321.jpg

Fish is on the hook!

201706281735511.jpg

KILL THEM ALL

201706281736101.jpg

The fuckers sure are tough. Not even surprise flaming arrows can take them down.

I turn the cavalry back to engage them, then follow up with spearmen - cavalry is immune to trample, so you REALLY want to intercept enemy knight charges with it and then gtfo before it gets slaughtered.

201706281736501.jpg

Then the rest joins up. We throw some javelins in their faces and move into melee.

201706281737491.jpg

It is only natural.

201706281738081.jpg

This also concludes the knights.

Impressive, even when we shot them to hell, they were still able to cut down 1/3 of our cavalry and 1/5 of spearmen.

201706281740061.jpg

Regroup.

201706281741081.jpg

Off you go, lads.

201706281741511.jpg

It's no good this time, though. The fuckers first take the bait, but then run back towards the guard post once our cavalry pulls back :argh:

201706281742111.jpg

Let's try going into extreme baiting mode.

201706281742251.jpg

Nope.

However, an opportunity for displaying some Tactical Genius presents itself.

201706281744061.jpg

Don't mind me, bros

I left the battered cavalry and spearmen behind. No need for them to eat up even more of our coffers on refills.

201706281746141.jpg

Now let's try that again.

201706281746441.jpg

201706281747061.jpg

GET 'EM LADS

201706281747401.jpg

We really want to soften up the templars before they reach us.

201706281748171.jpg

Bad news is those fucking enemy archers keep shooting down our boyz.

201706281748521.jpg

NOT ANYMORE

201706281749371.jpg

This is as far as we can go against their archers, time to pull out. Should be enough though.

201706281750311.jpg

:buildawall:

201706281751411.jpg

Enough archer trolling I suppose.

201706281751511.jpg

AND SPEAKING OF ARCHERS

201706281751561.jpg

FUCK YOU ASSHOLES

201706281752231.jpg

Those fuckers hiding behind the rocks have been a thorn in my side all the time.

201706281752481.jpg

Disperse!

201706281753061.jpg

Surround!

201706281753401.jpg

Murder the archers while the templars are sent on a wild goose chase!

201706281754101.jpg

A few dozen arrow volleys later...

201706281754161.jpg

we're done

201706281755131.jpg

:obviously:

201706281756071.jpg

A new face joins our army.

201706281756551.jpg

Meet Raynald of Tripoli, he's an okay bloke. He has the same stats as Richard, but a different skill set. Some of the new stuff includes:

201706281756591.jpg

Leader of light infantry.

201706281757021.jpg

Rage.

201706281757071.jpg

Leader of heavy infantry.

Light leader is actually a really good skill, triggering it makes light inf almost on par with heavies. It boggles my mind why they didn't give Richard access to it from the start, when it would be useful. Right now, however, given our single light inf regiment, this has no use for us at all. I took 1 point of rage and 2 points of heavy inf leader.

Also, turns out I forgot to sell that Banner of Alexander we got back in... was it Antioch? Or Lesser Armenia, I think. So I gave Raynald that as well.

201706281758491.jpg

Fucking reinforcement costs :negative:

Yeah, screw it. I sold some of the garbage items we got, kicked the 22/36 cavalry regiment into the reserves (it's not like we don't have enough cavalry atm) and reinforced the rest.

201706281803281.jpg

Next stop: Strange Warriors (tm)!

INTERLUDE V - SLAUGHTER PAVILION

201706291715241.jpg

Like last time, might as well get the interludes out of the way quickly.

201706291716071.jpg

Okay, now this deja vu is just lazy. I hoped we'd at least start on the top of the hill for a change.

201706291716151.jpg

Some seljuks and turk bowmen wait here on the slope.

201706291716331.jpg

Then by the top there are two heavy cavalry regiments.

201706291716591.jpg

Finally on the top there's a whole mob of kebab.

All archers are turk bowmen, light infantry are bombardiers. Spearmen and heavy infantry are generic seljuks.

To be honest, this is a lot of kebab for us to chew through.

201706291717351.jpg

And it only gets worse once we start. Turns out there were more hiding in the forest. And they are all running towards the top.

201706291717511.jpg

A third knight regiment was hiding at the top too.

201706291718201.jpg

I think we're outnumbered roughly 20 to 13 in total, and the enemy has fairly high-tier dudes.

This isn't looking very good.

201706291720421.jpg

Especially since they'll be trampling us from high ground.

201706291722411.jpg

I HAVE A BAD FEELING ABOUT THIS, MEN

201706291724101.jpg

Let's trigger them with some bait.

201706291724181.jpg

Another archer regiment was hidden among the trees. The crusader elite are getting shredded...

201706291724561.jpg

Once they finally gtfo past the archers' range, they are down to 13/36. Holy moly. Well, the battle is finished for them, that's for sure.

And of course, there's heavy cavalry about to ride into us.

PREPARE FOR IMPACT

201706291725261.jpg

Fortunately, engaging it in a forest AND swarming it with dudes suppresses its trample considerably.

201706291725551.jpg

As the engagement goes on, I keep wondering why are we losing so many men when all that we're engaging are 2 knight regiments. Then it hits me.

The fucking enemy has SEVEN REGIMENTS of archers.

I wish I had seven regiments of archers.

201706291726151.jpg

And the worst thing is we can't get to them before we tie up all the saracen horsemen.

201706291726431.jpg

Here they come.

201706291727011.jpg

That will be it for their most immediate meatshields, I think.

201706291727071.jpg

Meanwhile our crossbowmen are getting the shit kicked out of them. At first I thought I missed some cavalry charging against them, because they evaporated in an instant. But no, they were just standing in the open and taking arrows to the face.

201706291727231.jpg

I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF THESE FUCKING TURKS

201706291727381.jpg

:what:

THIS IS TURNING INTO A DISASTER REALLY FAST

Luck is smiling on us though because the cavalry rallies almost immediately after it routs, so it can continue the charge.

201706291728051.jpg

EAT SHIT AND DIE

201706291728421.jpg

As the bowmen scatter, so do we, to avoid the heavy infantry.

201706291729081.jpg

Bad news is there's still plenty of them left.

201706291730031.jpg

I send the templars and crusaders on a crash course to at least tie up the remaining infantry.

201706291730441.jpg

FORM UP! HOLD THE LINE!

201706291731341.jpg

This distraction is enough for us to take our battered cavalry in through the flanks for yet another charge.

Meanwhile, Raynald's useless piece of shit bodyguards are dropping like flies against SELJUK SWORDSMEN :hmmm:

201706291732001.jpg

At least that's it for the archers, and the rest of our heavy infantry is winning on all fronts.

201706291734171.jpg

All that's left to do is dance around a bit while archers murder the seljuk spearmen.

201706291735101.jpg

:hmmm:

Not the most commendable victory we've had, that's for sure.

201706291735521.jpg

I don't even wanna see those reinforcement costs...

201706291735561.jpg

:prosper: :prosper: :prosper:

Naturally, 5k of that is Raynald. Another 3k or so are the crossbowmen. Then it's mostly cavalry.

I toss the 13/36 crusader elite into the reserves, then sell all the garbage items we have in our inventory.

201706291740521.jpg

And we still miss 6k geld for a full refill :prosper:

201706291741121.jpg

Which would have be even worse if the last mission hadn't put us over another rep bonus threshold for the Papal States.

Yep, that 10% recruitment cost cut works also for refills, since Richard's 1 missing dude costs ~700, while previously it was ~800.

201706291742301.jpg

In that case, I also kick the styrian infantry and the crossbowmen into the reserves, then give refills to all regiments, and finally get some new dudes for Ray with the remaining cash.

Back to 1 ducat :negative:

201706291742591.jpg

And it's also back to the desert. Joy of joys.

201706291743051.jpg

Jordan is the only place left that is below Hard level, so in our current state it's really a no-brainer.

201706291743091.jpg

Ah, a rescue mission!

The last one went so well!

201706291743421.jpg

The French, naturally, want to go full retard. "With a great cavalry charge" (tm) we're supposed to break through the enemy first lines, then break through their siege engines and rescue monsieur Osman, and finally leg it out of the map (while presumably more enemies arrive to stop us).

201706291744301.jpg

The Teutons have a bit more careful plan. Instead of hitting the wall with our heads, they want to go south first to some random village and bribe local saracens to our cause. With their help, we'll then rush towards herr Osman and finally leg it out of the map.

Note: The mission map shows no siege weapon icons for the saracens here, but I doubt that's the case since we can still buy the Sabotage asset.

201706291745211.jpg

And then we have the Templars. They suggest first performing a feigned attack (we are the masters of those after all) on the main saracen defensive line, and then sneak a small force towards sheikh Osman while the rest of the enemy are distracted, and finally leg it out of the map.

Note: The Templars want to attack during the night. This is advantageous because it'll severely cripple the enemy siege weapons and archers. But at the same time it'll cripple our archers.

Note2: This is a general note for the Teutons and French. I think if I sell one more garbage item, we should have enough cash to get the bribe asset available in their plans. Thanks to that, we SHOULD be able to bribe whoever is guarding the saracen siege engines and knock them out from the inside before our main force advances. However, remember that this is a complete gamble, given that we have no idea how the map and the enemy unit distribution will look in practice.

The choice, as always, is yours.

The wealth is supposed to flow from the heathens to the crusaders, not the reverse. :M

Go for the Templar's plan!

I think Philippe Auguste is already trying to get Richard killed.

Anyway, let's go with the plan of the Templars. It sounds fairly sensible and I'm curious to see a battle happen during the night.

While the French plans have actually worked admirably in the past, not so sure after that beating we just took. Going to go with the templars.

CHAPTER IX - SHELLS IN THE NIGHT

201707011029091.jpg

Time for a night trip to Jordan.

201707011031321.jpg

Night battle rules are much different from normal daylight.

For starters, all units (particularly heavy infantry) move much slower and have lower combat capabilities.

Furthermore, archers have their ranges cut by half.

And finally, ALL units are hidden from the start and remain hidden until they come into the enemy's field of view.

Dis gon be gud.

201707011032321.jpg

Further ahead, among some Roman ruins, we are expected to mount our feigned attack. The saracens are no doubt lying in wait here.

201707011032481.jpg

Here's the village where we are supposed to take sheikh Osman.

201707011033011.jpg

And this is the mosque from which we are to rescue him.

201707011034321.jpg

First things first, I split the army.

201707011035071.jpg

The main force, under Raynald's command, will entrench here and provoke the saracens to attack.

201707011035221.jpg

The other, which is a small detachment of light cavalry, templars and Richard, will go rescue Osman.

201707011035351.jpg

Along the way, they run into two regiments of horsemen. Nothing particularly serious.

201707011036201.jpg

Also, while technically we can't see the enemy regiments, if we look closely enough we can still sorta see their movements because these dust clouds appear on the map.

201707011036481.jpg

I scout ahead with the main force and reveal a bunch of seljuk archers and spearmen. Yeah, I ain't riding into these.

201707011037091.jpg

It takes a while for Rick and the templars to catch up to the cavalry.

201707011037321.jpg

After which there's some good ol' bumrushing.

201707011037491.jpg

A short engagement, and we can continue towards the mosque.

BUT MEANWHILE!

201707011037531.jpg

The kebab is restless on the other front!

201707011038401.jpg

Fortunately, they are all trash-tier seljuks: warriors and swordsmen.

201707011039101.jpg

We disperse and shoot them out as much as possible.

201707011039341.jpg

The fact that they're all chasing our spearmen helps us in this tremendously

201707011040141.jpg

*yakkety sax*

201707011040581.jpg

The Complex Tactical Manoeuvres (tm) let us put all the seljuks on the plate for our cavalry.

201707011041061.jpg

CHAAAAAARGE!

201707011041211.jpg

gahahaha

201707011041451.jpg

Whoa, the crusaders are alone against like 4 regiments of dudes. Very brave. They can take it for a while though, they are tanky as hell, especially when you activate Persistence.

201707011041541.jpg

Still, no need for them to be there on their own all the time, so I withdraw one cavalry regiment and make another charge.

201707011042191.jpg

:hero:

201707011042361.jpg

On the other front, our troops are within sight of the mosque.

Let's see how the rest are faring...

201707011042471.jpg

Oh

Yeah, I don't think we'll have to concern ourselves with this front again.

201707011044181.jpg

Again we wait for Richard and the templars before proceeding.

201707011044401.jpg

Our scouts spot another cavalry regiment and some archers. Nothing special.

201707011045291.jpg

There's a catapult behind them, though. I let our infantry rush into the horsemen, while our cavalry goes off to trample the archers and catapult.

201707011045431.jpg

When suddenly Richard's regiment goes down from 11 to 6 dudes.

:hmmm:

They couldn't have been trampled by the seljuk horsemen, there's no way in hell they'd take THAT many casualties from it. I can only assume they ate a catapult boulder to the face.

201707011046021.jpg

There are also swordsmen close to the catapult, so the cavalry has to gtfo on the double once it's done.

201707011046451.jpg

Mopping up.

201707011047351.jpg

Capturing the mosque gives us monsier Osman and his bodyguards. They certainly look serious for a bunch of village elders.

201707011047461.jpg

We gotta get him here. Good that we've already cleared the path, so it shouldn't be too 'ard.

201707011048061.jpg

Cloppity cloppity clop.

201707011048481.jpg

WHEN SUDDENLY

201707011049011.jpg

AN AMBUSH!

I guess all the remaining kebab from the map is converging on our location. I recalled the cavalry from the main force to our position, just in case (nobody else will get here in time anyway).

201707011049331.jpg

I quickly dispose of the battered warriors.

201707011049491.jpg

But continuing into the spearmen and ninja archers would be completely pointless.

201707011050141.jpg

so we just keep running

201707011050361.jpg

and winning!

201707011051181.jpg

Zing.

201707011051351.jpg

These fucking reinforcement costs I swear.

Of course 3600 alone from that are fucking Richard's useless buttbuddies.

201707011052001.jpg

I reinforce all regiments and don't give a single penny to Ray and Rick. Almost 6k gold for just 8 dudes how crazy is that?

Yeah, fuck you assholes. I've got better things to do with me geld.

Some level ups.

201707011053041.jpg

Arms-bearer (I assume this is for the equippable weapons and armour that we get to loot)

201707011053061.jpg

Forced march.

Picked arms-bearer, they have some really good gear so ZE SYNERGIES will be crazy.

201707011054271.jpg

Jordan got us this new reric. It's p. cool, I gave it to Richard.

201707011054491.jpg

Meanwhile Richard's horn I give to Raynald because this fucking banner is completely useless.

Now the question is should I sell it for 3k geld or give it to the pope for +1 faith? Tyranny of choices...

201707011055031.jpg

Speaking of better things to do with geld.

201707011055401.jpg

UGUU~ :desu:

After buying this, we still have lots of spare cash left, which I decide to splurge on...

201707011057431.jpg

Finally upgrading one of the 5 light cavalry regiments into heavy cavalry. We shall make great use of these.

The rest of our geld I splurged on one dude for Richard.

201707011058031.jpg

They also get a new skill set. Most of it we know, except for steel charge.

Took scatter anyway.

201707011059341.jpg

New event! Free stuff! Come one come all!

Paypal States will give us a reric, a stat-boosting elixir, faith and rep.
Templars will give us rep and a level 7 Templar unit.
Jewing them both out will make them pissed as hell but will net us a reric, an elixir and also an armour suit.

New map unlocks post-Jordan:

201707011100061.jpg

201707011100121.jpg

These two are the last non-hard areas on the campaign map. We go for the closest one, which is Al-Nefud.

201707011100231.jpg

Gettin' stormy in here.

Three battle plans.

201707011100391.jpg

The French figure there's no need to engage in a sandstorm. We should wait it out and attack the Saracens fair and square.

201707011101211.jpg

The Germans suggest a two-phased attack. First, we'll take 5 regiments and ride around slaughtering out-of-position saracens in the sandstorm. Then, once the storm passes, we'll join up with the rest of our dudes and head for the oasis to deliver the killing blow.

201707011101521.jpg

Finally, the Templars have a plan similar to Jordan. We should use the sandstorm to our advantage and attack with the entire army while it's raging all around us.

Well then, what shall it be?

- Whom should I sell the banner of Alexander?
- Wot do with Solomon's loot hoard?
- Whose plan do we take?

I feel like we are a king of barely adequate faith, so we should cash in banner for faith, and give solomon to ze pope.

Then go with Germany's plan, because it seems the most sound.
