When the final boss of Eye of the Beholder basically requires the 'Combat Mambo' as standing toe-to-toe with him (without using the wand to force him into that trap) results in your party getting wrecked in four seconds then... yeah... you can pretty much say it's an intentional design facet of these types of games.

Was turn-based ever mentioned or discussed with the Mamborock devs?

And if they're afraid of not being a market for that, they could even make a KS to implement a TB mode.
Now that would make me open my wallet to them.

As mentioned, the game was an intentional homage to the older blobbers. They were 100% clear and up front with that during development/on release. It's not for everyone. I haven't bought it because I'm not really a fan of them anymore. They aren't going to make a turn based version because that's not what the game is about.

Those guys are doing what they want, the way they want and enjoying what they do. They have no need to bow down to anyone to get them to open their wallets to them.

That's fucking rare those days. It sure made me open my wallet, even though I am highly averse to blobbers in general.

guize, its The Dungeon Master Two-Step, not "combat mambo" or "combat dance", its been named that way for years, try to uphold the tradition.

They could have made mobs turn faster, could give them Counter-attacks (chance to immediately hit back like Riposte), give them side-attacks.

In a good real time blobber (DM, CSB, Black Crypt) you don't need to use the two step dance tactic that much. The exception in DM and CSB is if you meet creatures like dragons that can wipe out the whole party is one breath, or the two headed ogre in Black Crypt who can kill a character in one hit.
If I ever replay Dungeon Master again I think I'll try to finish it without using the two step dance at all, if I can get enough magic boxes to freeze the dragon long enough.

This game is so cool. And I am kinda happy and proud of myself that I can actually enjoy real-time dungeon crawler with puzzles and secrets and constant deaths. I did't really play a lot of games like Grimrock, aside from EoB and LoL, and it's great to know that, with updated graphics, this genre does't loose any charm and is fun. RPG's as good written books, RPG's as tactical combat sims, RPG's as dungeon crawlers - they're all cool and fun and are pieces of bigger puzzle, and there is no approach to RPG's which is "outdated" as long as it is done well.
I am halfthrough level 10, going to grab some keys and go into final parts of the game. My party is four humans, one is a fighter with mace and heavy armor, other rogue with evasion and daggers, an ice wizard and fire sorceress.

To all of you retards who find the two step thing annoying (and yes, it is) why the FUCK are you playing on Hard? That's like, shooting yourself in the testicles then complaining that you can't ejaculate...dumbfucks awards please for everyone here!

Play on Normal difficulty, and you don't have to two step near that much.

I was learning on a go so switching from straight on fights to stepping back and forth, running in circles, freezing monsters and backstabbing them, hitting ogres as they ran past my party and all that felt natural to me. Not every monster in the game is easy to kite that way, and when you feel like you can kill anything, Grimrock just throws you inside a room with half a dozen of poison plants, or summons monks-of-death with whole repertoire of long range spells, and you have to maybe run like crazy all around, or step back and think, or hide behind columns and remember how many steps you need to walk in which direction to not be hit. So the game tests your reflexes too, not a big deal.

We played different Legends of Grimrock.

Mine was on Hard - and monsters turned so slooooow, that is was clear about dev's intentions for you to use Two-Step to defeat them.
Otherwise they would at least add anti-Two-Step options. Like auto-counterattack, faster turning. Also side-attacks (only ogres have them).

And yes, 99% of combat time in Grimrock you are just Two-Stepping.

And Two-Stop is Answer to everything. Skill setup, inventory management, tactics, party setup, gear, class selection etc etc matters 1% in combat, 99% is Two-Stepping.

p.s. I dont remember EoB so focused on Two-Stepping. Pretty sure spell selection, defence for warriors etc. actually mattered there since you couldnt Two-Step every and any mob to death easily like in Grimrock.

You had to use two-stepping for the final boss in EoB. That about says it all.

If you say so Whisper. I played on normal and mostly relied on my two spellcasters, ice missile, potions and bombs. I only started two-step on t-rexes because there were so many of them, and, of course, on zoidbergstrafing-monks, because they could nuke my party with a few spells.

I thought I would like this game. The previews/reviews of it I saw mentioned the game having challenging puzzles and implied(!) that combat was not that important because you could dispatch enemies in interesting ways.

Made it to level 3 and aside from the time I fell on top of a snail, you are clearly incentivized to kill everything you find a traditional way.

The combat is shit. Repetitive and I can't hotkey my basic attacks!

Does this game have any interesting puzzles? Or can I stop without missing anything?

It has, the puzzles really begin in lvl 4 if I remember correctly.

You did notice that you can turn with Q and E so you can keep attacking with the mouse?

Of course. Why am I attacking with the mouse though? I should be able to keybind those actions.

Maybe I will go back to it next week.

Could you explain me why this game is shit?

Real time bullshit, almost every fight is about dancing on the tiles like crazy and clickclickclick attacks, and double clickclickclickclickclickclick to cast an every goddamn spell. Came down to level 4, got bored to fucking death. Dungeons are small, riddles are fucking retarded and door exploit killed level 3 spider swarm challange.

Should I click some fucking more to enjoy this?

Legend of Grimrock is homage to the old dungeon hack'n'slashes like Dungeon Master, Chaos Strikes Back, Eye of the Beholder 1+2 etc, if you don't like it then the game is not for you.
