No. We only have one barracks, already owned by Prolebashers. Also, Head Miner Tinrdli restricts the miners from doing anything other than mining. Furthermore, we cannot spare any armor - the smithy is too busy to produce extras.

Hey, be grateful Sukhavati didn't label you as a second class citizen. You get to work on the fortress in the safety of 8th underground layer - that's more than most other dwarves have.

I can't remember what's in stock, nor which are actually any good, so do me a favour and pick a suitable weapon for an old dwarf that just wants to protect himself and his home (and definitely not get revenge on anyone)

I still say mass volley crossbow shooting is the way of the Future(tm). Heck we should fortify our position with catapults and ballistae! Also where is our air support? I propose we make a magma trench when we finally have fireproof plumbing. :D

Heck we should fortify our position with catapults and ballistae!

That'll be pointless until we build a fortification. Ballista only shoots straight, so it will only work if placed in a proper location, e.g. at the end of a long narrow tunnel. Catapults need to be built en masse in order to be effective, preferably in unreachable locations like rooftops or battlements. If we build ballista or catapults on the ground, they would simply get rekt as soon as anything hostile shows up.

Also, we don't have any siege operators to use them effectively.

The water-drinking thing is there because I'm in the middle of playing right now. We opened the gates, and everyone rushed to the river to get something to drink.

I thought of putting charscreens in the OP, but then reconsidered. Dorven personalities change quite frequently. Even small things like miasma might affect the character.

Edit: long story short, Kalin was our first manager. He failed at basically everything. The Outpost was covered in miasma for quite some time due to his fuck-ups.
