It seems like the game's visuals and logic were constructed around the token system; I'm not really sure how this can work -- although I share Jinn's view that sprites are more inviting than tokens, at least to someone who grew up on sprites.

If its so easy to simply replace the tokens with sprites then why did he decide to use tokens in the first place? Visual clarity or something?

From what i remember :

  • He wanted to expand the bestiary and character classes and didn't have the resources to do it with sprites, it was about animations too.
  • Now everyone hates the tokens, he offered to change it through a kickstarter goal.
  • These are a placeholder (sprites from KotC)

Nothing illogical about it, sprites are cRPG roots, after all ...

The kickstarter page is finally updated with the estimated release dates. Until now it sat on December 2019. It now reads March 2020 on the Champion Tier which includes the game.
Other tiers were also updated, the digital book and dark arena are set to September 2021, The forces of chaos for May 2022 ,The heart of evil for January 2023.

No new announcements yet, but I guess he is going to open the kickstarter at the start of February. ( It is still on a draft. )

My guess is its some close friend or girlfriend who did that "art" so its very touchy for him to replace it. that or just being self destructive. After all last Kickstarter date was supposed to be at same time as BG3 annoucement , now at pathfinder 2 , there's a certain logic into that.

And once again pierre if you are reading, token are not the problem ,they are fine in roll 20 and FG2 i use them all the time, the shitty artstyle used is. No need of sprites.
