Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
KCD is fine vanilla. The most popular mods on Nexus are those that make things easier or more convenient, like Unlimited Saving, Bow Dot Reticle and Instant Herb Picking.
Not playing on Hard eats about 30% from the game, using unlimited saving is another 30% down.

So on Normal and with the mod you can only enjoy about a third of the real potential. It's like a porn video where you can only see the legs from the knees down.

Playing this on GeforceNow with all the bells and whistles (no way I'd be able to accomplish that on my aging 1080gtx). It looks gorgeous and is incredibly immersive. It definitely has a strong feeling of jank, reminding me of Witcher 1 and Gothic. I've played enough to finish the Woman's Lot DLC and just wrapped up the Nightingale quest. Thus far it's a mixed bag. While I love the openness of some of the quests (lockpick, find the key, bribe), and I really enjoyed some early reactivity (you can get Divish's wish to give you $ if you check in with her before leaving her town) I just finished a quest where I followed an NPC around a settlement and it was god awful, it turned into a walking sim.

The combat is probably the jankiest I've seen. It's bewildering, kinda like the first time you play Gothic. I'll def not give up and see if it "clicks" but damn does it feel janky as fuck.

I really enjoy the first person animations and feel, in that regard it reminds me of Starbreeze's work in Butcher Bay. I like the lockpicking and it makes me want to replay Thief.

So yeah, thus far I'm mostly positive on it and def gonna stick with it. Writing and VO is strong, just hope the combat clicks soon and I hope there aren't too many escort/patrol quests after the Nightingale one.

edit: just got my mount. hans is a bro <3

Goddamn this has shaped up to be one of my favorite RPG experiences. As I said, it has some rough edges, a bit of jank, some buggy quests, and traversing the open world can be a pain in the ass whenever you crash against a weird height elevation/bushes/shrubbery.

Organically bumping into NPCs from your home village
Organically checking in on helper NPCs and start new dialogue
Speech checks seem to be only attemptable once and you fail once they're gone
The potion crafting is super immersive and really enjoyable

I'm postponing the main quest in favor of just filling in the map and doing what quests I can find, do some hunting, and collecting gear. I still die whenever I'm faced with more than one enemy but combat is thus far pretty sparse and easily avoidable.

Why godawful? I mean yeah you are supposed to just follow the guard, but it is all grounded by storytelling and is immersive enough. If every quest was about following someone that would be bad, but as it is, it was a fun way to explore Rattay, see where's what and play a medieval patrol cop for a while.

I struggled to stay awake. I would have needed more interjections peppered in, like how they throw in the quarreling peasant + local
The whole walk took like, maybe 10 minutes? You shouldn't play when you are near unconscious from exaustion ;)

More thoughts on virginal unmodded playthrough:
-love the verisimilitude of the alchemy system, just wish the animations of Henry grabbing, grinding, pouring were sped up according to his skill progression. Acquiring recipes and having to read them and execute the recipe is awesome though, it's just the execution of the mechanic that feels hobbled
-would love more survival/presentation mechanics: perhaps Henry can get ill if he sleeps out in the rain. perhaps a hunger/cleanliness system for your horse, they need to bathe too! Was the dog as a companion a thing at launch or something they added/tacked on with the Woman's Lot dlc?
-combat still feels like a mess to me, not sure if it's my controls, but I think it's crazy how difficult it is to flee from combat. The lock on system seems to have a mind of its own, especially when trying to flee.
-it's silly that the plant picking animation is third person. even when crouching, it still shows Henry bending down to get it. This one doesn't bother me as much as the crafting one, as there's usually some beautiful music playing in the open world fields

Love, love, love the side quests in this game. Love how they remind me of the little vignettes from the Witcher series. I really appreciate the quest design and the C&C baked into the dialogue system.

Examples:
Heretics Quest - I love that the game organically let me speak to the heretical woman WITHOUT having to check in with the Vicar or the Priest. The game let me skip that step organically and respected my wanting to initiate dialogue with the woman without consulting either men of the cloth

Sometimes it does railroad you - I was surprised I was not able to lie about the Skalitz mines after accepting a bribe not to sell out Nemoy (even though it seems he's meant to die)

Other shit I'm really enjoying: just riding in the open world feels and sounds great. The music is wonderful and the work that went to the audio and building the fields/woods is just exquisite.

If there were one mod I do wish I had enabled during my virginal playthrough it would be one to reduce the collision objects when on horseback. That's the biggest pain in my ass.

Yep. It's interesting everyone loves them even though they usually don't reward you in any material way, not even with XP (obviously, due to the nature of the chardev system in KCD).

They only offer new stories and characters. And people still play them, crazy.

I like how the game acknowledges how crazy Henry is. Johanka dressing down was something for the ages. "Everybody knows how much of a psycho you are Henry". Well, thanks I guess.

Also the master hunter quest :
Hare : "I need you to kidnap his wife"
Henry : "I think I can enjoy that"

For fuck's sake

You can still download that mod, it is on nexus.

not even done with bandit camp quest grinding it now, had to go get few more levels + better equipment

combat is challenging with mods + all negative perks (mainly the one that reduces xp gain is the only significant one), 2 or more enemies and 95% of time I get fucked. I have done successful combo or master strike 0 times in actual combat :-D

woman's lot was shit dlc too much running around and sneaking was obnoxious

quests are indeed great, I skip most of activities but try to do every quest

Godwin best char

woman's lot
That's exactly what I want from my medieval combat simulators, to play as a woman.
You niggers told me this game was based and redpilled, why the fuck you lying all the time?
First, TWL contains two separate side quests and only one has you playing Theresa.

Second, the other one is one of the best quests in any RPG ever.

And third, even playing as Theresa has absolutely nothing in common with stronk wahmenism in currentyear Westoid games. The point of the quest is to show how an ordinary person deals with the destruction of her home and death of almost everyone she knew and it's doing a p. good job at that.

You're crying like some bitch Hans Capon pumped and dumped. It's not like she can dual-wield glaives and solo hundreds of soldiers like a character straight out of Dynasty Warriors. The most Theresa can do in combat is shoot one restrained Cuman at a time with her weak-ass bow.
