Elden Ring patch added in NPC map markers and fixed several broken/missing quests.

I knew the fans and critics were delusional. This was never an intentional feature, it was a symptom of development crunch (glad they fixed it). All the fanboys praising the obtuse design were too afraid someone would accuse them of being a casual to admit something wasn't working quite right.

Or.... it was a clever marketing scheme to sell it first to those who would otherwise shun it; then patching for sale to the mainstream plebeian market; netting it an initial hard core reputation in the deal.

I didn't really keep up with this shit but I'd sooner suspect that Elden Ring wanted to do no map markers but the amount of bitching it caused from casuals made them revisit that and implement it in a patch anyway. Implementing map markers for NPCs is really fucking easy so I have my doubts that crunch would've made the critical difference there.

Also, you're a dumbass if you believe there isn't serious demand for games that actually make you explore the environment properly instead of just autopiloting people everywhere with map markers and the like. You're on the RPG Codex, dude. Shitting on map markers has been around far longer than Elden Ring has.

how do the NPC markers work. do you need to encounter/meet the NPC first or are they revealed as you acquire the map?

while they're at it, they should add dungeon/significant site markers, a guide where all the items are, and actual mathematical explanation of how stats/weapons/spells scale so I don't need to go to the shitty ad-farming wiki to build a competent character

Once you speak to an NPC, his marker appears on your map. You could already set your own custom markers, the only thing this changes is that his name will now appear next to it. The fact that this is a thread-worthy topic shows how desperate shitposters are getting. They no longer make Krunos like they used to.

It's funny to see how the praise about minimalistic indications in Souls games turned into praise about maps, loaded UI, and mainstream indicators.

It's funny to see how nobody is praising anything here and yet this is what you decided to post.

Ryzer's observation is absolutely correct.

The Codex may not be praising anything but if you look elsewhere? They are replete with people applauding and commending said map indicators.

First of all: Nobody is really shitposting here.

Second: It is not just about the map/UI elements, OP also mentioned broken and unfinished questlines.

Third: Odd, snarky, posts in response to OP's post says much more and much louder about you in contrast to the contents therein.

Honestly though NJClaw... Your posts in here come across as desperate, disengenuous, without tact nor are they with any measure of acuity... In other words, NJClaw, in my humble opinion, I think your posts here are worth utterly shit.

And if anything, they are the ones slathering this thread with shit, not OP.

Mainstream success = casual

What did you think was going to happen?

This is it for FromSoft. You will have to look elsewhere for good games.

I'm sorry, I didn't want to ruin this prestigious abode of ground-breaking opinions like "I FUCKING KNEW IT [that] broken/missing quests were never an intentional feature". Please continue.

Also: please stop using my username, you're scaring me.
