How many people pirate specifically to avoid buying said game?

If Brazil (or any other third world country) supressed their taxes on imported goods then that country's industry would explode leaving thousands of unemployees. Taxes to imported goods sounds like the most logical thing to do. We can't let the first world cannibalize our economies any further. If those goods aren't creating jobs in our countries then we must force the industries to leave some taxes.
HERMANO, while what you said is true in most cases, the main reason why game prices are insane in Brazil is cause dumb goverment thinks console & pc games are like gambling games, so they apply a insane 125% tax over it. There is no game industry oin Brazil, so there is no game industry to explode either.

They are fools. Videogames can serve as bread & circuses. Opiates of the masses. Government should have an interest in spreading them far and wide.

Yeah, I bet BR gaming industry would really flourish was it not for them pesky imports.
HUEHUAHUE!

Also, regarding the topic, while I can get not buying the product due to atrocious policy of the maker ($ony, for instance), with games "attrocious policy" usually boils down either to game being shit, or it having retarded DRM, because what else?

Those points are already covered by the poll, and if I like a game, I'd like to contribute to developer staying in business and making other such games, even if someone at the studio turns out to be a douche in person, duh.

Nah, we already got football and sex. And you should see the glorious BR consoles released in the last 5 years:

The Mega Drive (a.k.a. Sega Genesis!) FOUR! Comes with 87 games like Sonic 3™, Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle™, Altered Beast™, Golden Axe™, Kid Chameleon™, The Sims 2™ and a Guitar Hero clone. Costs US$ 100.

dynavision-cybergame.png

Who said anything about BR/LA's videogame industries? Is that the hardest you 1st worlders can into politics? Too much fast food and big brother.
Now we know where the general cultural decline comes from :smug:

FREE THEM MARKETZ :retarded: MOAR GLOBALIZASHUN PL0X.

I'm not the one licking the boots of my government who in turn are the ones to suck cocks of businessmen. That's how the world rolls.

That's partly true depending on the country. That's certainly completely true and obvious in the first world though, and I won't argue about that. I know I wouldn't support the government of any 1st world country.

Our governments over here have been fighting major monopolies and economical powers a long time now. We've nationalized the fundings of retired people and our national airline for example. We are now on our way to nationalize press paper because the major owner is also the owner of the major newspaper since they bought it during a dictatorship (funded by the United Fruit Company among several other first world corporations) and have incurred in terrible monopolistic practices. We're now about to control the price of hydrocarbons and we have and protect our right to have free college education.

Resuming, at least in Argentina (and I think it is also the case of Brazil), the population is much more politized and critical than that of the U.S.A. or the E.U.:
We wouldn't certainly party over the murder without trial of a former covert agent of the FBI who was then turned into a fictional public enemy by the mass media (Bin Laden). Or a former USA's intimate friend (Gaddaffi) who was then murdered in a pretty obscure situation.

Also you'd certainly would like to lick our president somewhere:

Chile is doing well too. Brazil could use some improvement...but at least we would never allow the goverment to quietly allow US to extract a fellow BR if he didn't do anything illegal.

It's noteworthy that Zeebo was as expensive as 7th gen consoles on release and some prestigious jornalistas de gaymis profissionais actually said its hardware is comparable to cell phones(after they made sure it failed, of course), they fucked up the simplest ports as well, and their shitty fucking internet download service is permanently closed due to :decline:, which means new games CANNOT be acquired anymore. BUT! Brazilians don't give up, and now they're actually going to release a new version this year, and it may not even be sold here :incline:

Sad thing is that you can probably still reliably expect people to get supremo butthurt on .br gaming sites if you say Zeebo is shit, even though they failed even in getting the Inclusão to buy their shit... and they also tried to make it a "edutainment platform"(probably an actual quote from our media, too) after they noticed the disaster... or some shit

Hey, did I mention I despise Zeebo and am brazilian?

I don't pirate games. If I don't like something about a game, I don't buy it. If I'm not sure I'll like it, I wait until it's offered at a price that I consider risk-free.

Don't you live in Greece, man? Are you rich or something? How can you even know whether you will really like a game before you can demo it?

Yes I do, and no I'm not. There are a lot of ways to get info about a game today guys. You may make fun of Skyway when he says something like this, but I find that it's generally quite easy to determine whether you'll enjoy the game without playing it. You've got trailers, previews, let's plays, video reviews, "pro" reviews, amateur reviews, forums, you name it. I don't have a lot of money to spend on games so I wait until I can afford then, so usually until they reach the 5€ price point.

Piracy is a young man's game. When you're in college and you have lots of free time on your hands, especially if you're nerdy and don't get laid a lot, it seems like there's not enough games coming out to satisfy your appetite. Of course you can't afford them all, so you pirate everything.

Then you get older, maybe find a job, and now free time is the issue, not the quantity of games. By the time you finish a game and decide to buy another one that you're interested in, the price has dropped to ridiculous levels so it's not worth it to pirate.

Hey I was like you when I was 16 too
Not like I would have changed if I hadn't found a government party which I saw had a lot of renown activists in its composition.
You have been banned from politics since a long time ago and it's unlikely you would understand.

Also being apolitical is cool as fuck I suppose. It makes you look all intellectual and shit.
But there's a trick to it, that's what the status quo wants you to be, another little apolitical speck.

You don't have to like it kid, but the man speaks the truth. Unless you're a kid or at uni, the price of most games simply isn't large enough to be worthwhile pirating them. On top of that, you'll have periods of 3-6 months where you won't have time to game at all, because you're flat out with work and have a family to look after. You'll play a slow and steady stream of games over the year, and by the time you finish each one, there's about 4 decent ones - not necessarily good, but decent - that have dropped to budget price.

For example, I purchased FO:NV not long after it came out. I'm expecting to get a quiet bit in a month or so when I'll have time to get back into gaming and finish it. Then I'll get round to another MotB run - spread out over the free time I have available, that should take most of the year. Then I'll play another run of Space Rangers 2 - there's 6 months just there. And maybe I'll finish my run of CoP, and definitely another Deus Ex run, followed by finishing off my DE:HR game that I've been interchanging with NV. There's two years of gaming set out, without getting round to actually buying any new games yet. Anything decent that comes out in the next couple of years will be about the price of a drink by the time I'm shopping.

And frankly, I spend more time gaming than most people my age. Things change when you get older. Sorry kid, that might sound pretentious, but it's true.

Forcing your goverment out of a military dictatorship into a democracy requires/creates an amazing ammount of political awereness on the population. We will not be slaves of the goverment again, and we will not do things kwas and euros think that are "okay", like sending kids to die in a series of bullshit wars for corporate interests.

LOL. Populations and political awareness. Now that's an amusing coupling.

Uh, cool, good for you, even if I have no idea why you even brought any of that up, it's not like I supported one way or the other.

Cool story bro-kid. More holier-than-thou stuck-up bullshit. Sorry bro-kid but neither of you are the one true sample of your age ranges to assert what is true(TM) and what is not. Nobody is. Your own view on this may or may not align with the majority view but that's about it and even within a majority, there are all sorts of different sets of parameters. There is no one true or even false position on something such as this. You can not possibly make any statements regarding what other people's time and money are worth to them and how they may or may not use it, much less dictate how they should and what should or would count as activities better befitting a student, a working person or whatever.

And if we are to make generalist statements, you couldn't possibly be any further than the average gamer of your age because the people who go back to replay old titles for even a second time when there are plenty of new shit to play is as much an insignificant niche as it gets. This sole fact would invalidate your entire argument by your exclusive world view. But I guess I shouldn't expect you to have developed a world view and perspective that is wider and more inclusive than your own short sighted subjective experiences, though.

It sounds like you have regressed a great deal since you were 16 then. I, apolitical? Quite the contrary, actually. It's not awareness or being political to blindly trust in the people governing you and the institutions they enact to govern you. There isn't one universal solution to anything that can be set in motion once and be expected to keep stuff working forever and any solution breeds new problems day one. You couldn't be any more apolitical when you so gallantly lick the boots of your government because they, shock, nationalized a bunch of shit, almost an affront to western imperialism!, because you think it's a solution and that it's a Good(tm) thing without any question, overlooking potential problems it has and will undoubtedly bring in the future.

But I guess you desperately need to believe in

Good and Evil

to hold onto something in your life so you don't have to think hard about it. Politics are beyond good and evil. You can not get any more naive and childish to assume otherwise and on top of it, accuse someone of being apolitical.

But anyway, if there is one thing common to most popular events, it is that it's a form of mass hysteria, people being so desperate for change, they are willing to overlook all kinds of problems. And thank you for demonstrating that mentality here.

Generally it's a matter of demoing stuff I don't trust to be worth the money (And I'm running out of devs that are trustworthy enough to drop even 30$ on faith), sheer monetary limit (I can't afford much right now, I still spend more on games than I do on fast food or going to the movies, but I can't afford everything I want to play), convenience/DRM hassle, and on some occasions, sticking it to a publisher that burned me before.

The last one I try to avoid since I'd rather the good games get the sales than whatever shit game burned me, but I'm not going to shell out 120$ for a shit game and a good game together, and an honestly glowing review even on as small a distribution as this and another site or two I frequent is probably worth more than the cost of the game anyways.

:hmmm:

You stating the obvious once again.
You keep reminding me of my sweet sixteens man.

Can somebody cling to their "in the middle" posture so hard just for the sake of sounding like a pseudo-intellectual-wannabe teen?
We all know how all governments work, how do you think you can change the way they'll act from the outside fapping to your misunderstood nietzsche?
And although we all know how governments work, my government is, for example, not similar to yours at all.
But you probably are just too cool for school.

First I'm apolitical, outside it all. Now I'm trying to sound right in the middle. You are so desperate to put me somewhere just so you can come up with a fitting insult. I must be hitting a nerve repeatedly. Anyway, enough of your undecided bullshit anyway.
